You don't need an extremely talented guy at center, getting one that is hard working is much more important. This one looks like a bit of a reach. Spitz is a hard worker but isn't overly skilled. Most of the reports i've seen about him say he was a second-day pick. Thompson has done a great job so far but this pick doesn't excite me much. The Packers do need a center, though, so maybe Spitz will pan out.
You're right. Jean-Gillis is the big name that everyone was hoping for but he's 350 lbs. + and doesn't move well. Spitz is a guy who can play multiple positions, he can pull, he can run, he's athletic. He fits the zone blocking scheme very well. Packers need to find one starting guard in this draft. I haven't heard anything about playing Colledge at guard, looks like he's simply the future at tackle. I like Wells at center. Between Whitticker and Coston, we should get one starting guard. The other should come out of the draft. The pick makes a more sense if you read the bio taking into account the Packers are moving to a new blocking scheme that he fits.
I would have liked both. But Williams...probably just for his returns. He is not a big WR...the Donald Driver type as far as being more of a posession guy not the deep threat. Id love to see Orr landed tomorrow.why doesn't the pack ever take any badgers? I would have loved branden williams or calhoun on the team. Doesnt the pack know badger fan = packer fan?
I have heard alot about Colledge being more of a guard prospect than a tackle at his size. Spitz is also projected as a guard. You're right. I disagree with all the comments about Colledge being a guard. He has legit LT ability and just needs to learn technique. He has the physical skills to play LT that you can't teach and pass-blocking is something a lineman either has the ability to do or he doesn't.I have heard alot about Colledge being more of a guard prospect than a tackle at his size. I would have loved to have seen Calhoun in GB as well though there is no way they could pass on the likes of Hodge in the 3rd.Agreed...nice job by Thompson. The LB corp went from a big weakness to a strength.I would have liked both. But Williams...probably just for his returns. Calhoun...I agree and I hate that the Lions got him.
But TT did a hell of a job today.

The radio had Colledge himself saying he would probably be playing guard as the Packers talked to him about playing that position. It looks like they will try him at guard to see what he can do first.I disagree with all the comments about Colledge being a guard. He has legit LT ability and just needs to learn technique. Good article about him for the Packers...http://www.packersnews.com/archives/news/pack_25822618.shtmlThe radio had Colledge himself saying he would probably be playing guard as the Packers talked to him about playing that position. DE, CB, WR, possibly K if we go with the kid from Memphis early in the 4th. More on the Oline possible as well. What are our remaining needs? What positions and players should we look for tomorrow? I think we need at least one more receiver, at least one quarterback, maybe another lineman or two, and just general defensive help. We've got a lot of picks to provide some good depth yet in this draft.
I agree that he'll have to start at guard since they have Clifton at LT. I do think they took him so high because they feel he can eventually take over at LT.The radio had Colledge himself saying he would probably be playing guard as the Packers talked to him about playing that position. Not picking on you or anything but that is not what Colledge said nor is that what Green Bay has said at all. The coaches though, and this is bothersome, said the best 5 OL men will play. They made it sound like there is no loyalty to the incumbents at all. That is a good thing but also could be very bad as those two (Taush and Clif) are the anchors to that line right now.I agree that he'll have to start at guard since they have Clifton at LT. you really think they're gonna get 5 OL better than Taush and Clif?? Seriously?? I mean, even after this draft, they are still our 2 best OL...Not picking on you or anything but that is not what Colledge said nor is that what Green Bay has said at all. That is what the coaches said, not me. They are leaving the door open to anyone and everyone.you really think they're gonna get 5 OL better than Taush and Clif?? Seriously?? Yeah but there is no way, even after drafting 2 offensive lineman, that Tauscher or Clifton are in danger of losing starting jobs. And if they do....kudos to Thompson for bringing in a couple of studs. That is what the coaches said, not me. I think they need to try & target @ least one more WR... Williams from Oregon is still on the board, and a DT - still a few top rated DTs as well. After that, I'd say simply depth especially along the OL & then players that can possibly contribute on Special Teams. What are our remaining needs? What positions and players should we look for tomorrow? I think we need at least one more receiver, at least one quarterback, maybe another lineman or two, and just general defensive help. Any info on Cory Rodgers?
Height: 5-11 7/8 | Weight: 188 | 40-Time: 4.58
Official Bio
Strengths:
A major deep threat...Has a great burst and can separate...Very exciting in the open field...A threat to take it to the house every time he touches the ball...A tremendous return man who will contribute immediately on special teams.
Weaknesses:
Is more quick than fast and lacks elite timed speed...Does not have outstanding size...Has a frail build and lacks strength...Struggles to beat press coverage...Is not a great route runner...Raw and is still relatively rough around the edges.
Notes:
Junior who came out early after ranking among the nations elite as both a kick and punt returner...Has some ability as a wideout but his real value will come on special teams...May never be a starter but can certainly play a role for some team.
AZ just took him.I know he has effort issues but I'm hoping for Gabe Watson in the 4th ...
Doesn't fit the current draft mold. They seem to be focusing on players who put out on every play.AZ just took him.I know he has effort issues but I'm hoping for Gabe Watson in the 4th ...
Agreed. GB would rather players who demonstrate effort.Doesn't fit the current draft mold. They seem to be focusing on players who put out on every play.AZ just took him.I know he has effort issues but I'm hoping for Gabe Watson in the 4th ...
As good as the Packers draft if going... this is frustrating.Looks like another trade. Any details?
Looks like they moved down 6 sponts. Not sure what they gotLooks like another trade. Any details?
I agree but they say after the first 16 players the next 100 or so were all rated the same. Super deep draft. As good as the Packers draft if going... this is frustrating.Looks like another trade. Any details?
Why would it be frustrating? The Packers draft would not be going so well if they hadn't made these trades. I am really liking TT as a gm. He is from the ROn Wolf school of stockpiling picks and building through the draft. As good as the Packers draft if going... this is frustrating.Looks like another trade. Any details?
The Pack must be up to 12 picks by now.I agree but they say after the first 16 players the next 100 or so were all rated the same. Super deep draft. As good as the Packers draft if going... this is frustrating.Looks like another trade. Any details?
