Too much overthinking goes on in this thread. His ability is to walk through walls/objects.And we haven't ever seen him before. There are two black bald guys. One with memory erasing powers and one who can walk through walls.

I think it has to do with his natural ability towards empathy, as in he was caring for his brother, and at his job as a nurse he cares for the elderly people who are dying. So what we don't really know is were all of these individuals born with these abilities? Seems a little strange that they are all figuring out their abilities at the same time, could this be a hole in the writing or would there be a valid explanation behind it? The exception here is the politician, he seems to have known about his ability for a while, unless he flew for the first time when Peter jumped off of the building, but I still think there's a good chance he is Sylar.

When Mohinder asked him about Sylar he reacts as though he recognizes the name and asks Mohinder who he is.But later that episode he puts his brother in contact with Mohinder. If he was Sylar I don't think he would want his brother in contact with Mohinder. On the other hand, there is definitely an evil undercurrent with him, he tells glasses/black guy that he will kill them now that he has seen their faces.

Still think this is a possibility. The shots of him looking mournful when saying he can't always protect Claire imply he would be the one to hurt her, but they can also be taken to mean he knows hurt is coming her way but can't stop it. Maybe they have a precog that told them Claire is the key.

I meant in relative terms....I'm pretty sure he's not Sylar, and he isn't the one who is going to nuke NYC. I think he's going to turn out to be a mostly good guy with a "any means necessary" philosophy.Not so sure that he is a "good" guy. Hiro and the politician seem to be forming a bond. Hiro's high hero morals will probably start to wear on him. Also, it seemed the politician seemed to know some martial arts when he broke away from Claire's Dad and Eraser head - perhaps he starts Hiro down that road.
Obviously from the painting, Sylar will soon be coming after the cheerleader to eat her brains. I'm willing to bet that we haven't met Sylar yet in the form of another character although the way this show likes subtleties, I wouldnt' be surprised if he's been in the background of at least one scene in the first 4 episodes as a seeming "extra".
I was a little disapointed with some of the writing last night. After Peter exits Hiro's temporal pause he is about halfway across the car from where he was talking to Mohindar. Despite this, Mohindar is skeptical of the encounter. Why doesn't Mo think it's strange that Peter instantly went from a foot away to halfway across the subway car?
I hope they don't continue with Nikki's surprise and confusion every time she suffers a blackout. At this point she should pretty much instantly realize what happened, yet she still seemed completely befuddled at waking up in the politician's room, having slept with him, etc. That's as annoying as Medium was with the main couple being confused every time Patricia Arquette had a dream and it came true and the husband always being skeptical.

A couple more thoughts on the cheerleader painting.

In the spoilers for next week they show then discovering the symbol on an object. This may lead to figuring out if they are born into it or not. BTW the Sonic Boom was awesome. His character in personality is like Wolverine in the anti-hero sense. You see flashes of good but you know he's got a lotta bad.

In the painting that Peter finished, didn't it look like there was a hole through her body but the top of her head was missing?

I think his lack of painting talent is probably at fault. The hole is the high schools logo and the blood is everywhere obscuring the top of her head. Of course wth her talent beheading and keeping the head seperate may be the only way to stop her.

I thought Sylar was the whit guy in the coat and hat.
But since we didn't get to see his face, they can cast just about anyone for the role later. Chances are, though, Sylar will still be sporting the hat and coat cuz we saw him in Isaac/Peter's painting.

Sylar is the one that takes the brains. I don't think glasses guy and erasor guy are 100% bad. They probably work for the organization that's represented by the half helix symbol.

I find the roles of all of the characters initially very intriguing. I love how they're playing it. Every character just about is being played close to the vest, in that you aren't certain where they're going. Hiro and the Nurse guy are the exceptions.
The genetecist - enthusiastic at first, but becomes disenchanted after searching for a while. Represents skepticism of the audience and when he is convinced, you can be sure they've laid out a good case for the heroes at that point in the series. BTW, I think the lady that lived across the hall from his dad is a bad girl...dunno if that's been mentioned yet.
The politician - brother of a clear good guy, politicians are scumbags generally and he's starting to show his colors, but you're really not sure which side he'll fall on. Odds are, he'll fall on the side that benefits him the most or will be coerced into one position or another by the gambling overlords, but he won't do anything for good vs evil's sake, although his relationship with his brother could be instrumental in the future, might realize it's something worth preserving. Good dynamic between him and his brother, very nicely played.
The single mother - pretty strong feeling she's responsible for her husband being in jail or being hunted as we've seen what she's capable of. Her biggest battle will be with herself, her good side vs her get it done at all costs side. She reminds me of an ex-girlfriend, plus, the dynamic between her and a husband with powers, and a genius son has great potential.
Cheerleader - apparently being setup to be a central character in the series, although as mentioned above, she might not be the cheerleader who needs protection...although it's probable. Has perhaps the best power, and how that might be used in a nuclear attack will be interesting to see. Her dynamic with her father, the fact that she's adopted, who her real parents might be, why she's in the guys house...all lead to interesting dynamics with this girl. I'm not sold on the dad being a bad guy.
Cheerleaders dad - doesn't seem to have any powers. Has been implicated in many bad things and obviously is being portrayed as the bad guy, even though there is no clear evidence of having done anything wrong. Perhaps he's an observer, someone who keeps tabs on these guys, maybe even for his own benefit in making him very powerful, who knows. Clearly though, he's a figure of intrigue in the show and I like how they're walking the line with him, leaving room for doubt about his badness, especially with how he acted towards the quarterback, giving him a second shot at life...plus, he's way too good of a dad to be all bad, so I figure there will be some sort of struggle there.
Policeman - I find it funny that the guy who can hear thoughts is having relationship trouble with his wife because he doesn't listen. I bet the writers got a big kick out of making that plot twist, and I like how they've made it work. Is he good? Seems that way, although I'm not totally sold on him. Seems to be having more trouble with his powers than any other character, and becomes overwhelmed with it at times, but seems to have a good heart. Not quite sure how it'll be used, but we'll see. Not that interesting of a character, imo, but perhaps that's the desire of the writers.
Single mom's husband - again, i think he's innocent, and is likely a good guy. Perhaps he's come to take his son away from his harmful mother, but likely won't be able to. What are his powers? What was he accused of and it's cool how insightful the kid is who still believes he didn't do anything wrong. He's likely correct, and maybe because the lady buried those two goons in the place where there were bones already means that she has buried people there before, further clearing him maybe. One of the most mysterious characters thus far, who has only been shown a glimpse of the guy.
Sylar - very nicely done as a bad guy, not identifying him,s howing his house with the "forgive me, I have sinned" motif everywhere. I like the bad guys torn against themselves, finally embracing their evilness and enjoying it...it's a good bad guy mold to be cut from. His powers are in question, but obviously he's very powerful and will likely be a central bad guy to the group.
Painter - I really liket his character and the fact that hes' a doped up artist. They could've given the gift of prophecy to anyone, but I like the drugged out struggling painter angle VERY much. Perhaps he's finally going to be able to paint like that when he's sober, like the nurse guy did after being around him, and he'll be of more use and less harm to himself. Not quite sure about the dynamic between this guy and the nurse, regarding the girlfriend yet, but I'ms ure that will play some kind of role other than bringing them together.
I think Hiro has to be my favorite. He's full of enthusiasm, embraces his powers, and exhibits the joy of a kid who had powers like this. It's like they have characters from all angles who represent all of the viewers. The painter hates his powers, doubts himself, etc. The nurse guy felt special before, but not certain of what he was to do, and is starting to figure out what he has and get excited. Hiro was jubilant at first, and is still gung-ho. The single mom is scared, just trying to survive, and is developing a battle between her good half and her bad half, sorta scared, but wanting to be a good person. Cheerleader is pissed at her powers and just wants to be normal, but started to embrace them to cause harm to the QB, but then realized that was wrong and is growing as a character.
I could go on but suffice it to say this show is rich in characters, plot, and possibility. I just fear that post-season 1 there will be little left to do. Big part of my interest is in these characters beginnings and that journey to discovery. After they have begun and discovered, it'll be interesting to see if my attention is still with the series.

I dunno about that one. You have to think about him going from stick figures to replicating Isaac's style. I think the head is off and Sylar is the one chasing her. In terms of the shadow, I think that's Isaac's take on the visions, which is kind of like a dream, and things get distorted.

This show just keeps getting better and better. It's doing a very nice job of pacing the character and power development, enough to keep you interested and sucked in but not going over the top.
I was thinking the neighbour chick was Sylar as well like a previous poster said. The voice on the tape sounded male but also sounded like it could've been done with a voice mask, it had that kind of hollow tone to it. She knew the professer well, as Sylar is implied to have, and is quite interested in Mohinder and him carrying on his father's work (potential finding her more victims?). Though if we see her in a scene with HRG and Blankman next week that pretty much shoots that theory down (the DL I had didn't include the previews).
I like the charactor of Michael alot. He's selfish, egotistical and conflicted. He's got this awesome power of flight that he obviously loves ("I'm thinking of flying over the desert") but doesn't fit in with his world, life, anything he really seems to want. He went from total gaga over single mom to distaste in like a split second when he found out she messed with him. He played hardball and didn't back down from both HRG and Blankman and the mob guy. I'm really interested to see how he develops as the series goes on.
Hiro is awesome as well. His childlike nature and obvious delight in his powers lighten what could be a really dark show. His contrast with Michael was aweosme in this episode. I'm interested to see if he starts to work on his teleporting power since he hasn't used that since he left Japan.
All in all, the first couple episodes didn't sell me but I'm thoroughly hooked now.
