***Official JACKIE BATTLE Thread*** (1 Viewer)

Do you guys think he'll get 20 carries this week?
I wouldn't be shocked if he received 20 carries, again. Problem is, the Raiders have limited the Browns and Texans to <3ypc the past couple weeks. Except for Fred Jackson's explosion and the good week that Pats had, OAK hasn't given up much in the way of RB production, so it's tough to say if 20 carries from Battle will net you more than 6 or 7 points.Of course, it all goes out the window in these Raiders/Chiefs games, doesn't it?

I don't really understand Dodd's ranking on Battle myself. He has Battle at #25 in PPR format and then he has both DAL backs at #17 and #20. How can a guy that is going to get close to 20 carries be ranked behind two guys, on the same team, that are going to eat into each others carries? Makes no sense, even if they are going against STL, DAL is still a throw first offense.

Looks like Oakland's run defense will continue to suffer all year with Jarvis Moss (former first round bust) and Kamerion Wimbley (averaging 3 tackles in 6 games this year) trying to fill in for Matt Shaughnessy. Bump Battle this week.

"Raiders placed RE Matt Shaughnessy (shoulder) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Shaughnessy hadn't played since Week 3, but it's still a big loss for a Raiders defensive line hoping to get back its best end later in the year. The 25-year-old former third-round steal racked up seven sacks and graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 5 run-stopping defensive end last season. Oakland will close out the year using a rotation of Jarvis Moss and Kamerion Wimbley at right defensive end. Shaughnessy will return in 2012 on a cheap, $565,000 base salary."

Not to mention Wimbley was drafted as a 3-4 OLB. He's gotta be really undersized for a DE. KC should push him around,

There are two reasons why running backs succeed in fantasy football. The first and most obvious reason is elite talent. You could put someone like Adrian Peterson in almost any circumstance and he is going to do well... On the other hand guys like LeGarrette Blount and Ben Jarvis Green Ellis succeed because of oppritunity and hard work. Jackie Battle has both going for him.

Battle is going to take this job and run with it for the simple reason that there is nobody on the roster who can. Thomas Jones is over the hill and Dexter McCluster is not built to carry the load. I don't see this as a job that is going to be split between the three. I see this as Battle's job to lose for the rest of the season.

Another thing to remember is that KC has a pretty decent offensive line. As a matter of fact Charles ran for 1,467 yds rushing and 468 recieving yard with 8 combined tds. In no way am I comparing Battle's talent to Charles, but if Battle could put up 70% of those stats in the same offense he would be a worthy #2/#3 rb.

I like Battle to make the most of his chance and become the 2011 version of LeGarrette Blount and make a decent #2 rb. This is the type of pickup off the ww that puts teams over the top.

He has both? As in, he is an elite talent that could do well "in almost any circumstance"?

I think he meant "opportunity" and "hard work"...

I think he meant that he has drive and opportunity. He is obviously not an elite talent. He is correct though, there is a great chance that he is this years Hillis, Tolbert, Blount, BGE type. Someone who has enough bad things happen around him that the guy is able to put up good numbers without being an amazing talent. Also... to say that OAK will stop Battle because they stopped Hillis and Foster is just dumb. Hillis has been awful this year and he really hasn't seen the touches to have a chance of breaking out of the funk. As for Foster... OAK completely sold out against the run in the game. Which you can clearly see by the fact that Foster still put up 100+ yards in the passing game cause it was the only way HOU could find production. Plus OAK was in a very emotional game.

OAK's run defense is simply not good and they won't be able to sell out against the run unless they want to be the next team that Bowe makes a laughing stock with 100+yds and 2 TDs. I'd assume Battle's statline this week ends with something around 22/75/1

The preliminary Dodds rankings show JACKIE BATTLE in the mid- to late- 20's among RB's. Seems a bit low.
I dont really care where he is ranked. I am playing him over MJD against the ravens monday. I want no part of that...
I think they automatically downgrade a player a few slots if there is a known health concern (even if it's not expected to keep him from playing)I'd bet if he hadnt got hurt at the end of last game, he'd be in the top 20 for sure.

I picked up Battle last week and need him to have a semi-productive game this week. Is he going to play? I know we talked about him maybe suffering a concussion? He's listed as questionable right now.

Bradshaw on bye and Hillis out as well, need Battle to come up big!

Battle was a forgotten man in my league this week and is now sitting on my bench screaming at me to start him. Forget about who else I have, that's not what I'm asking. Tell me about what I have in this guy and can expect against my Raiders if I plug him into the lineup. Thought I read somewhere that he had elite speed coming out. When I watch his highlights he reminds me of Ryan Grant. Raiders D is prone to making guys like this look good.

I'd expect Battle's stock to be as low as 13/50/0 and probably has a chance to reach the 22/150/1-2 range as well. It depends on how much the Raiders respect Bowe and Breaston. If they are selling out on the pass like they should (Battle is very far from a proven talent or threat) then Battle will have easy openings. Also KC's O Line is far from the worst in the league. My guess in a earlier post was around 22/75/1

i think the lack of injury news has alot to do with the low ranking. Still waiting for coach to name him the starter? instead of a rbbc, may also have something to do with it.

Any news on him participating in practice as yet?

Currently have him plugged in to start in both leagues I own him in.

Even with byes, I could put in a few different guys if necessary. However I feel good about him this week against Oakland as the passing attack has come around in the past couple games and should offer some opportunity for the running game to be productive.

I expect Thomas Jones to be delegated to a minor role and McCluster to get his 10-12 touches leaving Battle to be the main guy going forward and him approaching 100 yards is quite likely IMO.

That's incorrectDesmond Bryant has been starting at Shaughnessy's spot with Moss getting a lot of PT. Wimbley only goes to that spot on 3rd to rush the passer. This news is pretty much irrelevant in regards to Battle. Shaughnessy has been out since the Jets game and the Raider Defense has shut down their opponent's ground game the last two weeks (Texans and Browns).

battle is splitting time with mccluster and tjones. there is no way to know how the carries will break down. hes a very high risk play this week. im tentatively playing him over starks, dhb, and james jones in standard scoring. haley needs to say the right things and he needs to practice in full.

dropped DHB for Battle because Fjax is on bye and Hillis and Best are probably out this week. Rolling with Torain and Battle for better or worse. :blackdot:

Dodds has Hillis, who would have to be thought of as very questionable with his hammy, at 22, 5 spots higher than JACKIE BATTLE. Bloom and Dodds both have JACKIE BATTLE rated in the same place currently.

With Jones and Best injured, I am counting on Jackie to keep my team afloat!
I'm in the same boat. I have Jones and Best. . .I also lost Britt in week 3. So far I'm in 4th place and 3rd in scoring with most of my players picked up off the WW. If I have anymore injuries, I'm done.

Instead of just posting a question about a single line in what I posted, why don't you also include what you think about the situation. "Close to 20" could mean 17-23 carries, and from what I have read through out the whole blog, most people have mentioned around the 20 mark also. To the point I was trying to make is that, how can BOTH Dallas backs be above a guy that "should" ( again not saying with all certainty that he will, but should) get most of the carries?

We'll see if this is one of those FBG experts were late to the party with, and continue to be late on.
If you're talking about the rankings, they HAVE to be conservative. Otherwise people would complain even more than they already do.
Not necessarily just rankings. They recommended a bunch of the WR on the last waiver wire column over Battle. Felt that was a bit extreme. Of course, they could be right, so I have no issue if they feel that strongly. Will be interesting to track.

Yeah, I picked up Battle before his big game, but had I not, he wouldve been my #1 pickup and I was deeper at RB than WR.On the Audible before his big game Battle's prospects were brought up, and whoever responded, I believe it was all 3 of the FBGs involved, said he's just another guy moving up the depth chart because of injury and basically "nothing to see here"He still could pan out that way, but Id rather have him on my roster than Doug Baldwin or something.

As of right now I'm starting Battle over Sproles and Best in one league and I have him benched for Ingram and Torain in another.

Kansas City RB Jackie Battle (neck) practiced in full Wednesday as the Chiefs prepare for their Week 7 matchup against Oakland. Battle left Kansas City's previous game in Week 5 with a neck injury, but is expected to play in Sunday's game. “If they need me to get a ton of carries, then I’ll take them," Battle said. "If not, then I’ll give what I can on special teams. My attitude hasn’t changed; whatever they need, I’m ready.”

(Updated 10/19/2011).

Fantasy Analysis

Battle was a hot commodity in Fantasy circles after he saw his most action of the season against Indianapolis in Week 5, rushing for 119 yards on 19 carries. “You can’t say that’s the best game you’re going to see from me because it was my first time carrying the load,” Battle said. “I think I have a little more in me. Who knows what I’m capable of doing?” This could be a favorable matchup for Battle as Oakland is allowing an average of 113.2 rushing yards per game this season, and opposing running backs are averaging 22.7 Fantasy points against the Raiders. Consider Battle a No. 2 Fantasy RB if healthy. (CBS)

Jackie Battle - RB - Kansas City Chiefs Posted 10/20/11 8:42pm et

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jackie Battle (neck) practiced in full Thursday, Oct. 20.

Huddle Up: Battle will be the starting running back according to HC Todd Haley, who said he's "excited" about Battle's opportunity. Thomas Jones will spell him in certain packages, and Dexter McCluster will continue his Kevin Faulk-like role on third-downs and other passing situations.

Just pulled off 2 trades that have me getting Andre Johnson and Roddy white. The downside is Jackie Battle is now my RB2 for the forseeable future. I need him to come through.

Battle has to prove his RB #2 worth before i trade him or would acquire him. I currently have him as my #3 RB but will move him or Sjax if i see Battle as value moving forward.

Loving this. Haley never likes anybody.

Can Todd Haley be trusted? Sooooooo tempted to put Battle in this week. Rolando McClain's been very gimpy of late and missed practice Wednesday. How are Battle's hands and what's his role in the passing game? I have a feeling this game is going to be high scoring and the Chiefs are going to have to pass to stay in it. I expect 20+ pts from both teams.

Battle's stock has gone up again now that Haley made the announcement. We knew Battle would get the majority of carries but we didn't know how it was going to look. Now we do.

I also want to add. Before the Jackie Battle hype took off, someone posted "Wow...3 pages for Battle. You dudes must be in bad shape."(link to this comment below) With the injuries to RBs this year those who stashed Battle will now perhaps have their season saved. And if Battle proves to be even a RB2, this is how championships are won. We will see. But I am not alone in hoping that Battle does well in 2011. All the fans of the Chiefs love Jackie Battle. And this is why I play and love Fantasy Football.

We know Charles will be back in 2012. And a duo of Battle + Charles is looking great. I believe Battle is playing for 2012 and beyond.

So my decision on whether or not I'm going to start Battle this weekend has come down to whether or not he has at least decent hands. Can anyone comment about his receiving skills?

His stats tell me he's rarely caught passes in NFL or in college. But his stats don't really say good things about his rushing abilities either, so obviously this is purely a situation play. Can I count on him to stay in the game if they are passing primarily and to stay involved with a few productive reception plays in that scenario?

Playing Tebow over Schaub and Battle over MJD. I'm going to need to score decent points out of these slots to win my matchup this week and the ceilings for Schaub and MJD are very low compared to Battle and Tebow. Could Schaub and MJD outscore them? Of course, but I'm sure it won't be by much. Gotta role with the upside plays.
