***Official JACKIE BATTLE Thread*** (1 Viewer)

I also want to add. Before the Jackie Battle hype took off, someone posted "Wow...3 pages for Battle. You dudes must be in bad shape."(link to this comment below) With the injuries to RBs this year those who stashed Battle will now perhaps have their season saved. And if Battle proves to be even a RB2, this is how championships are won. We will see. But I am not alone in hoping that Battle does well in 2011. All the fans of the Chiefs love Jackie Battle. And this is why I play and love Fantasy Football. We know Charles will be back in 2012. And a duo of Battle + Charles is looking great. I believe Battle is playing for 2012 and beyond.http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=616192&view=findpost&p=13639471
i was one of the losers that concurred with the above posting . . .

This guy is still available in two of my league; I can see his value in redraft but in dynasty? Is there really an opinion that he is viable in 2012?

If (very big if) Battle can put up the types of numbers Charles did when he played the last half of the season, then yeah, I think he'll be a factor in 2012.

assuming Charles is back and healthy (big assumption) then I think he will take Jones's spot . . . Charles is obviosuly top dog . . .

Playing Tebow over Schaub and Battle over MJD. I'm going to need to score decent points out of these slots to win my matchup this week and the ceilings for Schaub and MJD are very low compared to Battle and Tebow. Could Schaub and MJD outscore them? Of course, but I'm sure it won't be by much. Gotta role with the upside plays.

other RB is?

Battle is Chiefs’ lead rusher for now

Chiefs offensive coordinator Bill Muir said Friday that the rushing duties will, for now, fall primarily to Jackie Battle, but he didn’t rule out a back-by-committee approach if one rusher shows he’s particularly effective.

“We basically have a plan in terms of not equally distributing the carries,” Muir said, “but certain plays we maybe like with a certain player. Obviously you get in a situation where a guy is running tough and he’s running for extra yards — the kind of game sometimes dictates who that back is.”

After Jamaal Charles suffered a season-ending knee injury in the season’s second week, the Chiefs have shuffled the featured back role among Thomas Jones, Dexter McCluster and Battle. None has been dominating, but Battle showed promise two weeks ago in a win against Indianapolis by rushing for a career-high 119 yards in 19 carries. Battle, who joined the Chiefs in 2007 as an undrafted free agent, has averaged 5.4 yards per carry.

“As a staff, we’ve always known he has talent,” Muir said. “Now that he the opportunity to carry the ball, I think that’s a significant thing.”

How is this guy still available in any league?
There are only 40 roster-ed RB's in my dynasty league, 7 moves allowed for the year, and an IR limited to a NFL designation. Most guys, in my league, whole stable of RB's are as good or better than Battle, other guys need help in other areas and want to save there transactions for there.

Both of my $$$ leagues are on yahoo. I realize plenty of people on there dont have money on the line or do it just to have mock drafts (I do as well), but he's only owned in 45% of leagues. Surprisingly low.

Is there anyone on the practice squad who could be promoted if something was to happen to the anointed one or would haley just roll with jones and mcluster or more likely a FA?

He's up to 83% owned in CBS leagues and I'm in a deep league. Any bell cow RB should be 100% owned.

I don't read anything in that article that would rule out them bringing in, say, McCluster on passing downs. That "certain plays we maybe like with a certain player" quote is pretty vague.I think I'm going to let this guy sit on my bench one more week before I start him over someone like Willis McGahee.

I don't really understand Dodd's ranking on Battle myself. He has Battle at #25 in PPR format and then he has both DAL backs at #17 and #20. How can a guy that is going to get close to 20 carries be ranked behind two guys, on the same team, that are going to eat into each others carries? Makes no sense, even if they are going against STL, DAL is still a throw first offense.
who said hes gonna get close to 20 carries?
Instead of just posting a question about a single line in what I posted, why don't you also include what you think about the situation. "Close to 20" could mean 17-23 carries, and from what I have read through out the whole blog, most people have mentioned around the 20 mark also.

To the point I was trying to make is that, how can BOTH Dallas backs be above a guy that "should" ( again not saying with all certainty that he will, but should) get most of the carries?
like I said...

The battle has begun but the war is not over. If KC keeps up a nice lead he could at least salvage this week.

Glad I switched him to the bench for Murray in the 25th hour though

Is there a way to erase smack talk on yahoo...lol. Glad I sat Jonathan Stewart for him.

Battle got ripped off one or two TD's today. Battle is by far the best short yardage guy they have, but they made all sorts of weird choices.

It could have been a lot worse if the Chiefs didn't blow out Oakland. Battle only had 16 of the Cheifs 39 carries. Jones and McCluster didn't look very effective, but does that even matter to Haley?

Agreed, the Chiefs play calling was odd but it worked today. Cassel threw a ton on first down which didn't help Battle's cause.

I think its funny about people complaining about Battle's game. He got about as many points as Mendenhall, McFadden, and CJ2K combined today.

Doesn't matter going forward. They're just as likely to look elsewhere on short yardage situations as they did today. Dumb? Yes. But it'll continue.

Never watch the Chiefs mutch. I tuned in today for some of the game, and I could instantly see what people are talking about regarding Haley. They were on like the 5 inch line and he calls all these elaborate motions and whatnot. Guy is just likes to be fancy I guess. Doesn't bode well for Battle.
