*** Official Jaguars Thread - Team Putting #DTWD to The Test *** (1 Viewer)

Not saying Sacksonville is a little hyped up but at 930am I went to Publix to get wings for the smoker. Sold out. Not a one. I called over to another store and they only had a few left. I asked him nicely and he held a family pack of wings for me. :mindBlown:

FYI, if you're not familiar with Publix,  they're generally the best run regular grocery store in area.  When a hurricane approaches,  they regularly restock supplies. To be out of wings on GameDay has me shuked.

All I know is don't bother going to the Costco in Jax.  Costco is a great story, but every time I've been there it's been an absolute madhouse.  They need another one in that city to ease the pressure on that poor building and parking lot.  I'm sure this weekend there is nothing to be had there.

New one coming to Westside next month.

Jacksonville + Costco =http://www.actionnewsjax.com/news/trending-now/woman-gets-full-refund-after-returning-dead-christmas-tree-to-costco-in-january/681800339

As a Jaguars fan you have to take a long hard look at your team and see where you can improve.

WR - No, you have AR15 returning next season and Westbrook/Lee/Cole (Hurns probably released)

RB - Fournette, Yeldon and Grant look good

OL - Maybe a tweak or two but a solid unit

DL - Maybe get another pass rusher in the draft?

LB - Jack leads a pretty good crew

CB - FANTASTIC unit with Ramsey/Bouye, maybe get a nickel corner?

SS - Could get better... not a weakness per se

QB - ...

... I mean, we know who the elephant in the room is. Coughlin absolutely needs to go out and get a QB for the Jags. Because whether it's Cousins, Eli Manning, or whomever if they were behind center in this game the Jags are going to the Superbowl.

Blake Bortles completed 23-of-36 passes for 293 yards and a touchdown in the Jaguars' 24-20, AFC Championship Game loss to the Patriots.

Correctly viewed as the weak link of the Jags' roster, Bortles played one of his best games of the season when it mattered most. Managed and manipulated to near perfection by OC Nathaniel Hackett, Bortles stayed composed and aggressive for 60 minutes. Two of his best throws were lofted incompletions that narrowly missed. The loss was the Jags' first all season where Bortles didn't commit a turnover. Bortles was not the reason the Jags fell short in New England. Going on 26, Bortles is headed into the fifth and final "club option" year of his rookie contract. It's guaranteed for injury only. The Jags could move on without penalty. Improved quarterback play would have Jacksonville among the 2018-19 Super Bowl favorites.

Helluva a year. I know it stings now but there's a lot to look forward to for Jags fans. Even when Luck returns, this is still the Jags division.

####.  Sorry guys.  Was really pulling for you.  A near laughing stock in the pre-season to the AFC Championship game.  That's awesome.  I'll be pulling for this team again next year.

Congrats to the Jags.  I had the Jags defense all year in my FF league so I followed them more closely this season.  The Jag story turned them into my favorite team entering the playoffs.

I knew the Jags needed another score...running the kickoff out of the EZ was a killer for field position.  Really wish Bortles would have ran more out of passing formations,...and on the read option when they were pinned deep nobody was on the edge for the Pats.  Bortles could have ran for big gains.

Sorry, fellas. All of us fans outside of NE were pulling for you this week.  Just think, this is a long way away from Folwer's injury during preseason last year.

@APMarkLong: One bright spot of Jaguars season being over: That was the last time anyone has to look at those two-tone helmets

Really impressive season.  I simply did not believe they could get that much out of Bortles but they did.  Hats off.

Ignore the poster above me.  You guys had a GREAT season and easily could be in the SuperBowl.  Nothing to be ashamed of losing a close one to the best sports team in the history of the game.

It's hilarious how offended these fans got when I said this team wasn't that good.  The Jaguars won a combined eight games in 2015 and 2016.  NFL teams rarely go from that lack of success to legit contender overnight.  Their 10 win season coincided with playing the league's softest schedule.  How could anyone seriously look at their resume at the end of the season  and be impressed?

I'm impressed they beat Pittsburg.

The Pats were 5-11 the season before they won their first Super Bowl and began this great run. The Rams were 4-12 the year before they went on their run with Warner. They were also 4-12 last year, and went 11-5 this year. The Panthers were under .500 one year, then went 15-1 the next. Things change fast in the NFL.

The issues I saw were just immaturity mostly.

Bad penalties at bad times.

It was pretty clear Marrone tried to gameplan Bortles out of situations for him to make mistakes. Which is maybe what he shouldve been doing all year, but it doesnt yield a ton of offense in a game where the Oline isnt run blocking well. BB did pretty well with the screens, and short crossing routes. The throw to the sideline to Cole was gorgeous, and the throw to yeldon was nice too. But I think that this proves that they are in a competitive window now, and they need to go out and pay for a free agent QB. Ideally Cousins.

If your game plan weekly with BB moving forward is going to be limiting situations where he is likely to make bad decisions, this great young core is going to be wasted.

The future is too bright for this squad to  intentionally be handicapped offensively.

The reffing?????
I had the game on while I was brewing and drinking beer so I wasn't paying 100% attention but it looked to me like only 1 or 2 really horrible calls that went against Jax (the one PI before the halftime TD in particluar).  There may have been a few that I missed though but I thought it was a fairly well called game.

The Gronk hit was unfortunate cause it was a bang-bang play and the helmet to helmet was unintentional but they have been calling 95% of them that way all season.

How can anyone look at that team and be UNimpressed???  TONS of talent!!!

They dominated the Steelers and took the mighty Patriots to the brink in an AFC championship game in a game where the Pats had 1 penalty called against them.  You're just flat out wrong here.

where the Pats had 1 penalty called against them
The NFL put the "deflategate" ref on the game... I sincerely HOPE you're not implying the refs were on New England's side. The game was called well. That crew is notorious for throwing very few flags. Don't be that guy.

The Patriots were the better team but my point is the Jags were not going to get any help from the refs.

Zero penalties called on pats offense or defense? Seems odd....no....not a single one???

Come on Jags fans, admit it, this team this year exceeded your own expectations, so of course it exceeded ours.  Its not disrespect to wonder if a team who has been notoriously bad might revert to form the first year they take a step forward.  Its not disrespect for a national audience to have the same doubts about your Q.B. as a large segment of your own fan base does.

The Jags have been a nice story.  They are ascendant, at least for a time.  They have some very nice pieces, particularly on defense.  Most folks in the country were on your side yesterday and that is likely to have some carry over.  Here's to hoping you guys have a great off season so that you can actively participate next year in throwing dirt on the corpse of the N.E. era.  Thanks for nearly pulling it off yesterday.
