Phil Hughes sucks so much he can't even plunk Donaldson.
Lost in the Odor/Bautista battle royale was the half-drunk Gibbons staggering back onto the field during the melee.![]()
John Gibbons' week:
Sunday - ejected.

Marco Estrada did that thing again. That thing where he cruises through an effortless night of frustrated batters, awkward swings, and soft contact. That thing where he’s getting pop flies and weak grounders and then, seemingly on a whim, he strikes out three batters in a row with devastatingly fading change-ups. That thing where he’s quietly, efficiently, savagely dominant. That thing where nobody can hit him.
He’s been doing it all season, and while many will tell you his peripheral numbers are troubling and his batting average on balls in play is unsustainable and his stuff isn’t over-powering enough to have consistent success, Estrada just keeps going out and putting up results on results on results.
...
Estrada was brilliant, as he has been all season. He came into the game first in the American League in hits-per-nine-innings with 5.4. As a frame of reference,Clayton Kershaw, the best pitcher on the planet, is the only guy with a better H/9 than Estrada. His is 5.3.
And let’s stick with Kershaw for a moment. That’s about as high a wall as you can measure a guy against. But dive a little deeper and you’ll find that where Estrada’s even better than Kershaw is batting average against. Estrada led all of baseball in that category with a .168 mark coming into Wednesday night. Kershaw was a close second at .169. No one else in the majors has a mark below .178.
Look, we’re being selective with the stats here. Kershaw strikes out way more batters, walks way less, and doesn’t allow as many home runs. He’s better; way, way better. But, it’s not insane to compare Estrada to Kershaw in terms of not allowing hits. And, really, is that not the essence of what a pitcher is trying to do?
Just lost Bats.... I'd throw him right into leading offWhat do you do with Tulo?
Like this idea actually. Funny how Tulo (albeit subtly) let everyone know last year he didn't love leading off, while Bautista suggested himself that they should try him there.Just lost Bats.... I'd throw him right into leading off
@DrewGROF "This White Sox/Blue Jays game is peak 2016 baseball. Two guys throwing 97, barely any runs but a million pitches to get 15 outs."
The opposite of this is Grilli, who I love.Pretty sure they should just cut their losses with Storen and release him. How do you hit consecutive batters with two strikes... which of course brings Arenado to the plate, which costs you the lead.
Seriously, this guy blows, when Cecil come back, DFA him.
When Tulo gets healthy the Jays should be looking to move him Barney and Goins provide fairly equal defense, are more versatile and any dropoff offensively is minimal (as it is right now they're better off without him striking out twice a game, anyway.) They should have no trouble getting a top setup guy in return.

Haven't seen anything beyond Stroman tonight. I would think they push Sanchez back a bit with his innings limit and all star appearance but nothing official. What's the rotation looking like this weekend?
Don't see any reason to dislike this move.It looks like the Jays are getting Melvin Upton (plus cash) for Hansel Rodriguez.
Rodriguez was a international free agent signing back in 2014. The Jays spent $330,00 on him. He’s a 6’2" right-hander that throws hard. Since signing, Hansel has spent 3 seasons in Bluefield, with a 4.61 ERA in 25 game, 18 starts, in total.
This year, he has a 3.06 ERA in 6 starts, 32.1 innings. He’s allowed 25 hits, 11 walks with 26 strikeouts. He’s 19 now.
Don't see any reason to dislike this move.
That doesn't make much sense. Was listening to Gord Ash this morning. He thinks there is a big move going to drop....either Saunders or Bautista on the move for pitching...with Saunders being the more likely.
I guess they could put Upton on RF, Edwing at 1B, and DH Jose, and have Smoak on the bench.
I heard the Jays were scouting CC in NY the other day....I hope not
That doesn't make much sense.
Giving up you key players doesn't make sense when your goal is a WS. If they don't resign them, they'll get the comp picks for Jose and EE (not sure about Saunders). Only a contender would be interested a 3-month rental (Jose/Saunders). What contender can afford to give up a quality pitcher that can help the Jays win now? Doesn't make sense, especially for Jose. That would have to be a helluva an arm to make it worth giving him up.His thinking was with Upton getting 16.5 mil next year, they can't sign all 3 of Jose, Edwin and Saunders.
Between being moved from Atlanta, to SD, and now SD to TOR, there's no way Toronto's even eating 1/2 of that 16.5, right? His thinking was with Upton getting 16.5 mil next year, they can't sign all 3 of Jose, Edwin and Saunders.

Blue Jays acquired OF Melvin Upton and cash considerations from the Padres for RHP Hansel Rodriguez.Between being moved from Atlanta, to SD, and now SD to TOR, there's no way Toronto's even eating 1/2 of that 16.5, right?
I dunno. Still doesn't make too much sense to me. To drop from Bautista's bat (and all the 'franchise player' rah rah stuff) to Upton's, you're gonna need a helluva arm in return. Doubt the Tribe is giving up one of their top 3. Archer's gotta be worth more than a comp pick. While unlikely scenarios....
No one truly has arms to burn, but if someone among contenders does, the Tribe is a likely candidate
Also - Maybe someone like the Rays would like to take on the compensation they'd get for losing a QO'd EE or Jose to FA
I think there is a new rule about traded players no longer qualifying for comp picks. So Toronto gets one if they hold and keep him but if they trade him the pick is gone. While unlikely scenarios....
