Official ** KODI ** streaming thread (tips, help, add ons, etc) (13 Viewers)

If you're primarily using Exodus, I find that the old Channel 1 has a lot more of the old stuff.  Just finished Battlestar Galactica Season 1 and it wasn't too difficult finding a stream.
Pretty much all I use is 1Channel. I'm almost to the point of un-installing Kodi. Wife gets so incredibly frustrated when we try to watch some and the stream sucks. Then you have to go through trying the list of 30+ streams, half of them useless as they require subs, another quarter just don't work, then a few work but buffer so much they're unwatchable... then those last 2 or 3 that work, its a crapshoot for the quality you get.

Just gonna go back to torrenting until a viable solution comes along. Torrenting is the closest thing to being as consistent and reliable as TV.

There are still some issues, but I think it's still such a new platform it'll get nicer in time.

I was all excited because Exodus had Split, which is the next Shyamalan movie and isnt supposed to officially come out until January, but then when I started it, it ended up being some romantic comedy about bowling.

Same thing with Lost City of Z... ended up being Minions.

I too wish there was a way to block out all the cam versions of movies.  Really irritates me when a source advertises a cam version as HD.  I started using the only if it's out on DVD method unless it's a real must see for me then I just check every couple weeks or so.

Sometimes the cams are tolerable. For instance, there's a Doctor Strange cam on Exodus that's not too bad.

Should try Exodus then.  First stream works every time for me on recently aired shows.

2-3 years ago Usenet was the new Torrent, not sure what the most reliable is now days.

If I can use Kodi to see VOD stuff a couple of months before it hits netflix or redbox, it's well worth it to me.  And again the foreign stuff is usually pretty good.

And my Episode 4 story was a clear win for Kodi.

So this looks like $10-13 per month for streaming? Sports only? Pretty reliable (like 90% of DirecTV reliable)?
Correct.  Any sports that can be gotten they'll have. 90% is probably a fair number for the reliability.  Quality for the most part is near to cable.  Certainly is worth a shot.  Not much to lose.

ETA: They do have some live non-sports.  I watched the presidential debates and conventions on there.  They'll have some of the bigger tv shows like the walking dead and GOT.

Just signed up and I'm amazed at the quality in the Kodi app.
It is pretty amazing the quality and content you get for 10 bucks per month.

I signed up... that mean I'm good or am I only officially "in" when I buy a subscription?

Thanks guys.

Ok, maybe not so much on the entertainment. A lot of channels that are listed as HBO, FX, etc are really sports channels. Not all, though. Showtime appears to be Showtime, for instance.

Your mileage will vary depending on the channel.

They've added a lot of stuff over the years.   On their IRC support channel, they say there's more HD coming so maybe they'll have dedicated channels in the future that are always playing.   My fear is that they become too big and known and they wind up getting taken down.

Yeah, for instance, the first HBO channel that's listed isn't HBO, but further down the trough, there's an HBO HD channel that seems to be HBO. So...

Just takes some getting used to, I guess.
Are these live only, or do they have all SHO/HBO on demand content on this reliable platform?

Ok, turns out I was just confused and HBO IS actually airing an MMA thing, so it's legit HBO.

Sorry guys, learning as I go here.

Live, which will be beneficial when Game of Thrones and other series come around.
Cool.  I don't do live.  The last time I tried was with the walking dead a few years back and I almost threw my phone through the tv having to deal with all the commercials.    GOT wouldn't have that problem, but I've just gotten into the routine of waiting until the next day so I don't have to worry about any interruptions.

Ditto. Breaking Bad was the last show I had such an issue with, but it was worth it because it was Breaking Bad. Otherwise, I don't do a ton of current TV myself. I was getting into the Arrowverse, but I got completely burned out on it this year.

And who wouldn't want to watch an hour of Walking Dead in 35 minutes instead.  This alone is worth cutting the cable; time is money.  Cable on demand keeps commercials in for at least a week following the air date if I recall correctly.

DVR allows skipping.

Posted this on the Cut the Cable thread, but, this could be a game changer:

AirTv

Integrates all your streaming sources into one interface (just like Roku or Firetv) but also integrates your OTA channels.  It says,

You can install any Android apps you want, but the preinstalled options are Sling TV, Netflix, and YouTube.
which means it should be possible to at least side load Kodi's APK.  I'm guessing how nice of an interface it has and how good a job it does at getting a tv guide for OTA will be ultimately determine if it's a success.

Thanks for this.I am so low tech I am surprised I was able to figure out how get this on my fire stick.Just watched suicide Squad. At the risk of sounding stupid (which is not unusual for me)can I get in any trouble for this?Is the FBI going to come knocking at my door?

No one has ever been prosecuted for watching a stream, you never take possession of anything.  If you want insurance just use a vpn.

Been using Kodi/XBMC for years.  I mostly use it to stream my own content on the network (torrents mostly), but all the rest of the streaming content out there is great.  Of course there are some hiccups, but you can't really complain about free.

What does Kodi allow you to do? Just bought two Roku sticks. I see Kodi cannot be installed on them.

Wondering if I should return them and get a few Amazon fire Sticks.

Just getting into this.

So is there away to save a season you are watching on Exodus or do you have to search the show you are watching every time?

There are "favorites" and stuff you can do.  I haven't used them so don't know the specifics.  It might be that star symbol at the bottom of the screen next to the off button.

You need a remote that you can 'right click' with. Click on the name of the series then you can 'add to favourites'. Don't even need to open 1Channel (or whatever you use after that).

If you don't have a remote that can do that, just connect any usb mouse temporarily.

There are add ons that do this.  Super Favourites comes to mind.  There are others I'm sure.

I've only used the version of kodi that comes with OSMC on the raspberry pi and I use the kore kodi remote on my android phone, but for me for any show/season/episode/episode source, I click on the clipboard icon on the kore app (left of the up arrow) which shows me a menu within kodi that has an "Add to favorites" option.  When clicking that, it puts that item in Favorites section which is found on the Kodi home screen.

Kodi is formerly XBMC that is an open source media center software.  It allows what they call addons to be installed that are similar to your apps for your smartphone or your PC running Windows 10. Some of the addons available are capable of finding streams of movies, tv shows and even live tv that are available out on the www for free. Kodi excels at pre-recorded tv shows and movies; if the tv show has already aired (yesterday) or there is a HD version of the movie (released on DVD for example) you most likely will find a stream of it to watch in HD.  Your mileage may vary for live tv; live tv is often in SD and can be difficult to find a working stream.

Here are a couple links for more info: Link1  Link2

Among other things, it allows you to watch almost every tv show and most movies for free.  That right there should be enough of a reason to use it.

The firestick is a great device for Kodi imo.  Cheap, easy to move around, and pretty easy to set up.  I can see why this is the mod device of choice out there.

Agree, but, the extra $40 bucks or whatever for a firetv is way worth it for faster processor/memory.

Agreed.  I use Matricom boxes with ethernet and much better processors.  Huge difference.

I personally would never go with a device that didn't have an ethernet port.    Might not be an issue if you're the only one using wifi in your house.

 firestick for experimenting and trying things out.  firetv or another box like you suggest when you decide that's what you want to do and are getting devices for all your tvs.

Agreed. I am sure to communicate to anyone who uses this as a primary source of TV to go ahead and get the FireTV. I have had a bit more trouble getting certain package builds to install on the Fire stick.

Yup.  Like I said before, I stream a lot of content on my network using a router with Tomato USB on it with 2 hard drives connected.  The rest of the stuff available through Kodi is a bonus.  Ethernet is pretty much mandatory.  No buffering issues evah!!  I have a 75/75 connection fwiw.

5 video cameras, 7 Phillips smart light bulbs with a hub and Alexa on the 2.4GHz channel.

2 tablets, 2 phones and a firetv/roku on the 5GHz channel.

1 Archer 1750AC wifi router.

Minus the video cameras (that are limited to the 2.4 band) I try to put all the streaming devices on the 5Ghz channel.  3-5 devices at a time works just fine.

I thought you don't have any kids.   How you using 2 tablets, 2 phones and a firetv at the same time?

I might just have to get a firetv now. im assuming its the same steps to mod as the firestick. the Ethernet port should help a lot + the added memory for navigating the menus quicker. other than that im not sure what other differences there are
