This is a Fire TV box... not sure what's up but it's getting annoying. Had to **** around for a long time sunday to watch the 4th episode of a popular show that we had no issues with the first 3. Hoping this isn't an issue tonight .

Is there an easy/convenient place to stream ESPN for tonight's game?
Live tv is hit or miss, your mileage may vary.

For your tv episode were you using Exodus?  If it's an older tv show try 1Channel.

Best way, that I know of, to get Kodi onto a Fire Tablet.

1- Install Google services and Google play store.

2- Downlad Kodi directly from the Google play store.

How to Video link

For Windows 8 and 10 disable driver signatures first by:

Windows 8: Press the keyboard shortcutWindows key + C to open the Charms menu, then go to

Settings > More PC Settings > General. The following steps are identical to Windows 10.

Windows 10:Press the keyboard shortcut Windows key + I to open the Settings menu, then go to Update and Security > Recovery.

Under Advanced Startup , click Restart Now.

On the reboot screen, choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart

.

Had luck here last time I tried live espn:

Decent stream of Washington/Alabama on Pheonix TV / sports / one events / sports world live

Was trying to load kodi on the new fire tv box using laptop and adblink. I've done it 20+ times but for some reason it wouldn't work with the box. Found a tutorial to download an app on the firestick called downloader. Enter a URL and it installs kodi in a minute. Easiest method outside of adblink

I never thought about using a Fire Tablet.  I might pick up one of their cheap 7" models next time they're on a good sale so I have a Kodi device to watch in bed.

Yeah, the trick is getting a browser or program with a browser pointed to the download link with unknown app sources turned on for fire stick/tv.  I tried all that with the fire tablets and the download link was always greyed out. Probably because they're surfing devices and that would be too obvious. I wanted google store, gmail and chrome anyway so opening up the tablet to Google service killed two birds with one stone anyways and was super easy.

v17 ui looks ####ty or maybe im just hesitant to change. I will try that shakalaka build on 16 though

Really undecided here. Have the Roku stick already going. Xfinity supposedly releasing an app any day for Roku.

Or, return the Roku, buy the Fire stick and install Kodi, etc.

Wish I understood this stuff better. Ugh

Option B. Kodi's worth it.

Doesn't sound like you have titanium installed, I thought you said that you did. Should have much more on the scroll bar.

Should do something, even if it times out or doesn't find a stream. Firesticks are slow give it a couple minutes. Otherwise it might be weak WiFi. If it blinks and just goes back to the previous that means the stream is bad not working.
Odd. I think I may have something funny going on with the network because despite 12-14MBps readings on Speedtest, last night WatchESPN feed was grainy as hell too.

you never pulled the trigger on mystreams?
I did sign up but haven't subscribed yet. I am holding off on cord-cutting for now, though that would have likely been a good idea for a 24hr pass. Good call. I ended up using ATHDTV(?) and the SD feed was very stable and looked pretty good.  Kinda saved the day as I had folks over and the wind was pushing my already off-axis DirecTV dish just far enough to kill my signal. Three cheers for Kodi :)

I was using Exodus, and it's not too old of a show but I'll start checking 1Channel as well. Thanks

Sorry to keep asking so many questions... I really appreciate the ongoing feedback

They've been saying that for over a year. If you don't go with Kodi go with vue or sling.

Speaking of 17 how is Krypton? I'm interested in any significant/cool improvements as well as bleeding edge issues. Would you consider it stable yet (should be getting close as I believe the beta came out in summer).
I like it, it's streamlined and acts like you are opening an app instead of a heafty program. Much faster, installing a complete 350MB build took 1-2 minutes instead of 10-15.  Seems stable to me.  Just getting started with it.

ETA tiles and panes are gorgeous with a build installed. Feels like a Win10 or Android now instead of xbmc.

The Live TV section looked incredible - no selecting a stream, just pick a channel and it popped up.  Hmm - I'll definitely try this one out when I go to Kodi 17.

Dimitrology is best buds with Husham.  Should be a stable build.  Going to try it out myself

Love that the maintenance autoloads when you first open it up.
It's ok. Going to keep it until something better comes out for Krypton. Titanium for 17 would be awesome. The espn live tv just opened up without choosing a stream, but, buffered a lot. Exodus isn't a default option under movies or tv, you have to go to movies-video apps to find it. Then I just added it to favorites.

Trying it now. After playing around with it and the no limits build I think titanium is still my favorite. Even though it has a bunch of stuff I don't even use

PSA:

For those of new to Kodi, tvaddons.ag is a must read resource for addons (sorry for honda if it was already mentioned, or sorry if i'm not allowed to post links).

Live streaming is still wonky for most of the sources. There aren't many free live streams worth a damn at the moment. Sports especially. tony already mentioned this, hd antennae is your best bet for stuff on over the air channels.

For tv shows and movies, 1channel and Genesis were great addons for years, but they are no longer supported. Exodus is the next one up that is along the same line and has the best HD streams of the three, but it doesn't give you a local favorite option (the option exists in the menu but does not work locally by design) so you can't save the shows you watch regularly. It requires a Trakt account, which essentially saves your favorites through the Trakt free service. Concern there is the legality of the streams and having an online account that tracks your streams. If this isn't a concern, Exodus is a great addon. You can read more about these at the tvaddons forums.

Was able to find a Fire Stick at the local Best Buy. Picking it up at lunch.

Sorry, as I'm sure it's been asked a million times, but now what?

Watch video for installing Kodi. Get the Amazon and Netflix app up and running.

Then what?

easiest method for someone new

launch the firestick setup your wifi etc

goto settings, device, developer and enable both options

goto search and find downloader (its orange) install and open this

enter url for the kodi 16.1 install    http://troypoint.com/kodistable

click download. click install

when its done -  then you launch kodi (its blue and white)

I feel like a nerd I have this all memorized. inside when kodi launches scroll over to system file manager, add source. enter this url  http://infadroid.tk/temp

hit ok ok go back to system now choose system info I think it is. choose add-ons, click install from zip. scroll down to temp hit ok. install the Jarvis file. you'll see a thumbnail popup box lower right corner saying inafroid boxes or something has been installed. hit the back button, select install from repo. choose infadroid boxes choose add ons, click install wizard. click install.

when its finished go back a few times til your at the main menu, select programs- add ons, infadroid boxes. install wizard. install wizard latest builds, click titanium. let it download and install. when its finished and you see a 'OK' pull the power from the wall. plug back in and launch kodi you are now part of the elite club

Couple things. I believe the add-ons is under settings and not system info. However, maybe I did something wrong because I did not see a "Jarvis" file. There were two files however.

When I chose the install wizard, it asked if I had an account to infadroid.tk. Do I need to setup an account?

Thanks again.

What is Titanium? :bag:
Titanium is an add-on for Kodi.  It installs everything you want onto Kodi.

If you don't get an add-on like Titanium, you have to install all of the channels yourself.  Adding one channel is the same amount of work as adding Titanium, so it's best if you just grab Titanium once to get all the channels.

ETA: Kodi plus Titanium is a little bulky, and is probably right on the edge of what a Fire Stick can handle.  If you feel you have too much installed and that it's slowing things down, you can install a smaller add-on or just individual channels to keep things lean.

Also, another nice thing about Titanium is that it auto-updates the channels, rather than you having to manually update all the channels individually.  That might be the nicest thing about it... I only use about five of the channels, but don't want to keep up with them.  Titanium does it for me.

I dont have Titanium or anything, I just installed Kodi and then added Exodus and Sportsdevil. I believe when it starts it says Kodi 16.1 Jarvis.

I originally bought it loaded up but the buffering was horrble. I wiped it and went bare bones and I have zero lag or buffering issues now.

Favorites works for me. I add a show to favorites and click the star at the lower left on Kodi main screen and all my favorites show up.

Seem to have it working. Though it seemed to update a ton of other "add-ons". Normal?

Watching Trolls. This is legal? I saw mention of a VPN. Do I need to worry about anything here?

Also, looks to be playing back in 2.0 audio. IS this a setting or just this particular feed maybe?

$$$$ thank again for helping us challenged folks.  Can this also be done with Roku or only firestick?

One more thing (for now)....how do I get some parental controls on this?

I would like my two daughters to have access to watching shows without them watching GOT or something. Is that possible with this?

Thanks again. You guys have been a tremendous help.

I could be wrong but I think parental controls are only for xxx in the titanium build

it would take some effort to make a 'kids' profile

Figured out what my issues were... I kept getting time-outs and stream won't play errors despite my speedtest app registering 15MBps.

It got so bad I couldn't get anything to play last night. Then I remembered talking to the ATT whiz (aka the wolf) that I had come into the house once and he recommmended changing my router wifi to certain channels because they're less likely to be used. Moved from channel 9 to 7 and voila, everything is working great again  :bowtie:

yea that's the main reason I updated my router to 5ghz. no more neighborhood traffic

Titanium has a kid section, but there's nothing preventing kids from watching things they shouldn't other than your relationship with them.

Thanks, I've been using Kodi for years and I never knew this existed. It looks like Kodi itself has a favorite list, I clicked on the star and it had a few shows added there across several different addons. Genesis just became obsolete for me.

After playing around a bit more, I think Titanium is just way too much.

Can I load Kodi, Exodus, and then things like the Disney app or Nickelodeon for the kids to have in their rooms?

Can apps like Disney, Nick, ESPN, WWE, etc be installed through Kodi??

Again, I appreciate everyone's help.

I went through and disabled about 90% of the viewing sources. I may add some back as needed, but for now there are really only 3-4 I'm using with any regularity. This has helped a lot, to not have to scroll multiple screens to get to sources I use.

Yes, you can.  Rather than installing those apps through Kodi, you do it from the main Fire Stick menu.  Kodi would just be for Exodus and any other add-ons you want.  Just search youtube to find installation guides for each add-on.

If I dumped Titanium and went to streams, I'd just go with:

  • Exodus
  • 1Channel
  • USTVNow
  • ProSports
  • Maybe Sporsdevil
