Yep. Rule 9, Section 2:

"'First touching' is when a player of the kicking team touches a scrimmage kick in the field of play that is beyond the line of scrimmage before it has been touched by a player of the receiving team...First touching is a violation, and the receivers shall have the option of taking possession of the ball at the spot of first touching, or at the spot where the ball is dead."

Even if the refs had allowed Pittsburgh's recovery to stand, the play could have been reviewed and overturned:

Rule 15, Section 3:

The Replay System will cover the following play situations...
(b) Plays involving touching of either the ball or the ground
 - Touching of a Kick. Whether a player touched a kick and the spot of touching.

Surprised they did the onside kick.  Kicking it deep and having Pittsburgh run 3 times and punt would have been a better choice IMO.
