So I can LIVE!

He also used lots of old, hacky jokes. Like dreaming he ate a big marshmellow and woke up and his pillow was gone. And he didn't really prepare material well, he just waited for the other comics to do theirs and then twisted what they said into a joke about them, or him. But he was clearly the crowd favorite and I'm surprised he didn't win.

rip off, Lavelle (sp?) Crawford should have won
Umm...no.Who has not seen a fat guy doing almost nothing but fat jokes. Not too mention he is hard to understand...and laughs way too much at his own jokes.Reep was by far the better of the two. The only one in the final 10 that was close to him was Ralph Harris. And Doug Benson must have something on the producers for them to keep pimping him like this. The #3 funniest moment in LCS history? Really? That guy has not said one funny thing on any of the shows. Then he is also on the roast panel? He sucks...bad.Tommy Johnagon and John Caparulo were both robbed from getting to move on earlier in the show. But in the end...the guy who was consistently better than just about everyone won...so it ended up ok.

Seemed like Lavelle handled the roast much better and got more laughs (and no crib notes required). I realize the voting wasn't on the last ep but the one prior, but still I thought he was a much more natural talent.

I found the Reep guy funny, but pandering too much to the whole "I'm a hick" thing, with lots of physical shtick. One of the roasters made a comment about the Lowest Common Denominator target audience, which is what I've thought all along- and mentioned previously: America likes Stupid. He reminds me a little of a redneck Dane Cook- which isn't an endorsement.Doug Benson was the funniest of the group to me... so clearly, we're on opposite sides of the funny-meter. In that regard, I actually liked the young chick (no idea what her name is)- good shtick and the most clever humor of the group, IMO (along with the Brit, who was too hit or miss for my liking... mebbe too green). The Ralph Harris guy... dullsville. Mildly funny, but in a pretty "heard that one before" kind of way.

Doug Benson? Really? What about his, Im as gay as I can possibly be, did you find funny? His jokes sucked, his perfomances sucked...pretty much everything about him sucked.Reep does play that character...but its less of a character (like Larry the Cable Guy) and really just how he is (my brother works at a comedy club and has met him a few times).Redneck Dane Cook? I don't see him as anything close to Cook (plus he has never been accused of just plain stealing material). The chick was good, but needs to keep working at it...I did like the British kid pretty well too.Harris is a seasoned comic, so you may have actually heard some of his stuff before.

You don't see how two marginally (at best) funny guys who rely on physicality and sound effects for laughs rather than anything thoughtful or insightful might be similar? If you don't find Benson funny... ;) ... that's cool. No point in explaining why I do. (but it has to do with timing/concept/writing/presentation and not being boot-to-the-head obvious with his approach)

Look at me, I'm fat and I'm black. Not funny at all.
And he didn't really prepare material well, he just waited for the other comics to do theirs and then twisted what they said into a joke about them, or him. But he was clearly the crowd favorite and I'm surprised he didn't win.
This was obvious in the One Liner competition, he had nothing. He did seem to be the crowd favorite and I thought they were going to make him the winner. Thankfully people at home didn't vote that way.

Throughout the finale, Lavell kept joking about Al Sharpton on speed dial. If sharpton has time for the basketball team / imus deal, he surely has time for this. Just waiting for the news conference...

My LCS Rankings from the final group:

1. Gerry Dee

2. Ralph Harris

3. Doug Benson

4. Matt Kirshen

5. Amy Schumer

6. John Reep

7. Lavell Crawford

8. Dante

9. Gina Yashere

10. Debra Giovanni

Some of these guys were pretty uneven with good days and bad.

I'm ranking as who I found the most entertaining overall.

If I was having trouble deciding I asked myself, "Who would I rather go see?"

FYI, my favorite LCS comic so far has been Heffron, I've seen him live twice.

I don't consider Reep to just be marginally funny.Timing cannot save jokes that just are not remotely funny whatsoever.

Reep is not funny and Lavell should have won.

Also Benson is funny just not as funny as Lavell

Matter of opinion I guess. But it looks like you are in the minority here. at least with the last day or so posts. I don't think he was the funniest.. But Benson was  at times. If you didn't feel  and then  at his story to the Nun then I can't help you.10-9-8...oops.. sorry sister.

Im in the minority on this board.Though, Reep won...and Benson was out pretty early.I think I may have laughed 3-4 times the entire season from jokes Benson did.Ask some actual comedians about the 2 as well. (hint...I have, and I have yet to meet one who considered Benson even close to Reep).

Reep was funny, he just seemed to try too hard for the laughs. I thought Lavell did well with what he had, he is not that bright yet he still got the laughs and had better timing IMO.

Some people will never understand that you can't argue comedy. I laughed, you didn't. Move on.
But he's actually talked to real, live comedians. Clearly, one can't beat that; as a result, obviously we are wrong about this and must find Benson un-funny, and somehow gay.

Like I said..its personal preference on his material. But when it comes to timing and delivery...the comedians agreed with me.

Gallagher? Nice one...but no.

Go to a comedy club from time to time...talk to the comedians after...you might learn something.

Also, out of that, as I said, Reep, from what I was told, is just like that all the time...not a character whatsoever. Also one of the nicest guys that my brother said have come through the club. You would never know that he made a crap ton from those Hemi ads.

Well which one is it young whipper-snapper? Personal preference... or learned info by going to comedy clubs?

Do you understand when I said personal preference on "material"?Or do you prefer to just keep trying to mock someone who differs in your opinion that a terrible comic is better than John Reep?

I can't believe that anyone found Lavell remotely funny. He's like the Jay Leno of fat, black comedians... his routine is so obvious. Of course Leno's immensely popular so I guess I shouldn't be too shocked. Definitely not my thing. Lean my head back, mumble my words and talk about how I like to eat.

I actually thought the girl was pretty good. Although there's another established chick with the same type of delivery that I feel like she's copied. Can't think of the other girl's name... Liebermann maybe???

They had another girl on who was very good...did not make it to the top 10.Andi Smith I think is her name. Very funny.

Some of the people that advanced and the judges gushed over were just not funny. Are the producers still pulling shenanigans?

I'm hoping they learned from previous seasons and aren't showing their best jokes and material during the auditions. That's meant we either saw the same jokes during the competition, or their B material.

The Older Blond guy and his deadpan delivery had me :lmao:

I ...smoke pot ....and it doesn't effect me.... in the least........................................Where was I :lmao:
:)
I thought he was OK. I was laughing more at the bitter chick that was making Lifetime jokes and the guy with the 2 year old Japanese warlord that wanted to play trains. Of course I have two young kids so I relate to those jokes more now.

That is why I stopped watching in the first place. Im watching guys and girls that were killing it in the auditions AND at the comedy club and then people were chosen ahead of them that were awful.I didnt even know this was on again. I will have to check the on demand channel to see if they have it.

The Lifetime part was very  Loved her delivery also.. about everything.. When she got the "ticket to the semi-finals" and just grabbed it and walked away was

I hate the way they force women into advancing, even if they're painfully bad, just to have some gender balance. And it's clear the producers sometimes intentiionally show clips that don't reflect performers' best moments -- like someone said, maybe they're saving the good stuff for later. The Latina woman had the line of the night -- something like "When I was a little kid, I couldn't wait to be a grown-up. Now that I'm a grown-up, I can't wait to die."

I am a little worried as well. My wife and I said the same thing when we were watching. At least they were open about it. The judge with the glasses and the lady judge both mentioned to people that they liked the comics at other times. I will probably watch the rest, but I wish they were a little more open about the pros in the competition. Maybe make a "real" amateur/non-headliner competition for some spots and then a pro competition for people that the judges would have already seen in higher end gigs.

On a side note:

My wife and I saw John Heffron live and he was hysterical. Couldnt stop laughing.

The guy who has glasses and looks a little like Elvis Costello opened the show as the MC. He tried out for LCS but didnt advance. He was very funny as well

That's why its hard to judge comedy, I didn't think much of that line at all.

forgot to DVR this...I'll have to watch the episode online today or tomorrow.

glas to see this show is back and Craig Robinson is the new host :excited:

Caught the re-run last night from the premiere. My biggest complaint is that outside of I think 2 people that didnt advance to the semis (Texas guy and 1 other), they didnt show any jokes from the other people who made it to the show that night but didnt advance. I thought the people they gave tickets to for the semis were all funny for the most part, but how will I know if they were funnier than the people they didnt show anything of

The only 2 that got tickets that I was unsure about were Guy Torry who I think made it more for his name/ratings, and the fat lesbian who I just didnt think was funny. I thought the hot chick and the bitter lady both deserved advancing, not sure about the other women. I thought the offbeat/oblivious guy Kirk Fox was pretty damn funny.

Hard to pick a favorite in such limited viewings, but the 2 jokes I laughed at the hardest were Felipe Esparza's one about the fat chick wearing his clothes and thinking he was dying, and James Adomian's one about the Mucinex commercial. Those both had me dying. Felipe definitely looks to have the stage presence that I think he'll go far.

Excited for tonight's show.

I thought tonight's show had a lot funnier folks than last week's. I still don't like how let people do the showcase after what seems like a crappy set because they like their other stuff. If they are worried about using the same joke's later then don't show those people. Also, if they are worried about that then sure seems like the show is really rigged. I have to say that quite a few of the people who sucked in the audition did do better, but it just seems wrong to see people move on when they were bad.
