Carlos Quentin finally is healthy for two straight games, and then he charges Greinke after getting hit for the 116th time in his career.

So Grienke threw at Quentin's head twice when Grienke was a Royal and Quentin was a Honkey Sock. Seems like throwing at White Sox is the right thing to do, so Grienke is ok in my book.

Pretty remarkable streak, imo. Longest in U.S. beating the Trailblazers by a good 40-50 games.
An NFL team would have to sell out for 100 years to beat this streak.
Baseball is a long grind, and selling out every game for 10 years is a great run. Even if Fenway is smaller than most parks - not every year has been great, and add in that the weather can be miserable for an outdoor game in Boston. Good run

Boston has great fans and is a great baseball town and Fenway is my favorite ballpark in the majors now that the Yankee Stadium I grew up with is gone...They shouldn't have needed to manipulate numbers for some stupid "streak"

Funny that Greinke is getting tons of street cred for lowering his shoulder yet everyone pretty much says he would have been best served just cowering like most pitchers. It'll be interesting to see if this sort of sparks change for charging the mound.

I don't really see how that's manipulation, other than maybe if they gave seats to charity just to keep the streak alive. That's how attendance is always counted for sporting events- did you sell every seat you put up for sale. And obviously seats that go unsold on the secondary market are "allowed" to count. Someone bought the ticket. Yeah, it looks like an idiotic question. But everyone draws the line in a different place. Many of us draw a line outside of the rulebook and what cheating was acceptable. That is why Willie Mays is one of the greatest ever and Bonds isn't in the conversation for many. They don't care what the rulebook says. Some cheating is across the line and other cheating is not.
For those who say steroids = greenies and if you throw out Bonds you need to throw out Mays, I just want to know if their line is only the rulebook. Or is there some other line of reasoning?

Ryan Howard is 0-12 with 7 Ks against LHP this year. Last year he batted .173 with 45 K in 98 AB against LHP.

Not sure what to think here.
Obviously, it's bad for hitters to go charging the mound every time they get hit, but I'm also not sure it's bad for pitchers to be reminded every once in a while, that if you want to fling a ball 90 MPH at another man, risking his career or worse, that he might just be down for a round of fisticuffs.
In this case, it stinks for Greinke, but many, many batters have hit the DL for extended stretches from getting plunked.
In this case, I'd say, "meh, it sucks, but it happens". Pitchers need to pitch inside. Every once in a while, they might hit a guy on purpose or not. Every once in awhile, a batter might take offense.
This is baseball. Because these are mostly white players, these things ("establishing the inside part of the plate" and fighting) have been celebrated for a very long time. It happens. Throw out some suspensions and let's move on. No reason for an outrage.

Quentin's a moron. He's led the majors in HBP for several seasons b/c he crowds the plate and dives in. And Mattingly's absolutely right that Grienke wasn't trying to hit him on a 3-2 pitch in a 1 run game.

They play next week after the weekend series. How do you not bean Quentin every at bat now? Just have A-Gon stand next to your pitcher and try to charge him.ETA: MLB will suspend Quentin through that series and they don't play til June again.

He'd thrown 2 strikes and 3 balls to Quentin already in the at bat. And it was Quentin's 3rd at bat. It is very difficult for me to believe Greinke chose that pitch to throw at Quentin because he was angry/hates Quentin.

That makes zero sense. He threw him five pitches before "intentionally" plunking him? Why would he waste five pitches? You think he magically got mad or angry before the sixth pitch of an at-bat for some reason? Why would be do it with no outs in a one run game in the sixth? If he wanted to plunk he he could have done it with two outs and nobody on in the first.

The ball hit Quentin's arm/elbow, because the caveman was leaning in as usual. Yeah it got away from Greinke but probably 99% of major league batters wouldn't have been hit by that pitch.

So I post that I don't think it has anything to do with the game situation and you reply explaining why it was a bad game situation to hit someone. Ok.
I doubt there is anything magic about why he did it. I'm guessing Quentin has a pretty good idea based on his reaction.
It isn't worth debating though. You either think he threw at him or you don't. No big deal.
