Very underwhelming WM. More like an average PLE that was salvaged by some solid matches on night two. Saw trouble brewing with so much emphasis and Uso and the Rock/ Cena storyline in addition to what seems like lazy and hastily patched in booking. I turned off night one after what had to be one of the lousiest opening matches I have seen on any WWE programming in quite some time let alone the kickoff to WM. Fans were led to believe that Jay needed to prove something on his own. Dubious for the most part until the catch phrase hit and had the power to overcome a very average wrestler with no originality when it matters most - in the ring. We saw this on display on Saturday night. The ending was absolutely pathetic. WWE just buried Gunter's career on a sleeper hold. As a fan of pro wrestling for many decades it was almost shocking to see this. I looked at the remainder of the night 1 card it wasn't worth the time. No title on the line for the night 1 main event? Had zero interest in the New Day and Charlotte matches. I would have bought into Tiff vs. Roxanne. Probably missed a solid match with LAK vs Fatu.
Night 2 was a good PLE but was it Wrestlemania quality? All the matches on the lower card were good matches. IYO continues to show why she is at the top of the game and always puts on a great match when she steps between the ropes. Kudos to BB and RR for bringing good energy. Styles vs Paul was solid but the bit at the end with Kross was awkward. It was fun to see Dom win the FF way match and would have probably been a plus to have one of the talented NXT women step up with Valky instead of Becky although I do like BL and it appears as if she is back in full "The Man" character. The Orton spot was a cheap filler but nice to see JH get a nice pop and again - buried minutes later. Austin flying around that ring was insane. They are fortunate that that crash wasn't worse than it could have been. The main event was good and then Travis Scott showed up and things slid into the out house quickly. Hard to buy into the old ref getting taken out spot let alone the old ref getting taken out twice bit.
WM 41 will prove that the HHH creative mystique from last year was more of a pinch hit for Vince strategy that has morphed into a lot of sizzle and very little steak. A lot of the promising NXT talent that has come up recently has been buried under the weight of pushing vets into the main story lines. Honestly, I was checking out when Cena showed up for his "in-ring" goodbye tour and Yeet became bigger than everything else. The Rock waltzes in alters the direction of the main event and then disappears. Additionally, a lot of the good undercard matches were shorter than they should have been. Like the Super Bowl, commercials and promotions were dominating. Too much. Way too much. WWE is full fledge corporate sell out. I sure hope the roster on all WWE brands have LTI non-vested equity benefits.
