Todd Wellemeyer needs to be solid at SP5. Bumgarner got shelled in his AAA start last night.
Color me officially concerned about Bumgarner. He might be decent pitching at 88-89, but I can't see how he can be dominant at that speed. I wonder where the velocity went last year?

Giants fans, talk to me about John Bowker from a roto perspective. I'm in a deep NL only league, and Bowker is the only decent batter on the wire. I like what i'm seeing and am preparing the make the highest FAAB bid i've ever made this early in the season. Just looking for a sanity check.

Do you see him remaining a regular all season?

He can hit a bit but his upside is limited -- platoon guy, doesn't hit LHP. Not a plus defender, he'll lose late game ABs for defensive reasons.

This is not a solid defensive team. They don't score enough runs to give them away in the other half of the inning.

Wellemeyer hasn't been very effective. He's been bad even by fifth starter standards. Wellemeyer is a veteran so Bochy will stick with him for too long. If he can't figure it out and Bumgarner hasn't turned it around yet, someone like Joe Martinez will probably get the call.

Martinez wasn't very good at the MLB level last year but I recall he had some stints where he didn't suck. If he can stay out of the way of comebackers, his upside might be a replacement level SP. I know nothing about Kevin Pucetas except his minor league stats, which haven't been impressive.

Scott Barnes pitched 5 no-hit IP at AA last week. But you can't put a price on the memories from the Garko era.

Lincecum cooking with gas again. 4 Ks through the first 2 innings, 27 pitches, 20 strikes. He currently has 10 more Ks on the season that hits plus walks combined. Kid's as much fun to watch as any pitcher in recent memory.

Suck a rotten egg, Wilson. Lincecum has every right to punch Wilson in the nose after watching him give away this gem. Timmy dominated only to watch Wilson crap the bed. Uhg.

maybe bochy deserves the bunch.as a team, they should all gang up on uribe and velez.just an awful slide by uribe.

Kevin Frandsen is on his third organization in a month. He's come and gone through Boston and was picked up yesterday by the Anaheims.

2010 Barry Zito has reverted to 2003 Barry Zito. This is really quite amazing. Hope he keeps it up, it's a nice story.

2 out of 3 from the Cards, Phils, and Rockiese each. That's a good home stand.
Won another series. Let's see if they can final get a sweep this time. Nice to see Romo brought into a high pressure situation after yesterdays impolsion. Boch still has faith in him, and it appears to be warranted - took him 6 pitches took get out a of a bases loaded no out mess that Zito left in the 8th.

Roto question.

Assuming Renteria goes on the DL, Uribe moves to SS. Who gets the most ABs @ 2nd? Sanchez almost back? Velez, Downs?

I wasn't expecting this team to hit or play defense like they have been. It's been a fun April to be a Giants fan.

Sanchez is supposedly back in a week or so. Downs has been hot and they may keep him in the lineup because Giants management loves to go with the hot hand. Velez appears to be in the doghouse and will be one of the last options to see the field. Another possibility is De Rosa. I predict it will be a mixture of De Rosa and Downs, with Downs against lefties and some righties and De Rosa against tougher righties. Bowker will play LF when De Rosa moves to 2nd.

saw a quote today that uribe is going to be an everyday player when sanchez comes back.so factor that in.

Velez is optioned to triple A, Ryan Rohlinger is up. Rohlinger can play SS, 3B, and 2B so I assume he'll be the backup infielder while Renteria is on the DL. It will definitely be Downs and De Rosa at 2nd until Sanchez comes back.Uribe will be the everyday SS while Renteria is out. I have no idea what they're going to do with Rent, Uribe, and Sanchez if they're all healthy at the same time.Edit: It looks like Sanchez is more like 2 weeks away, and they'll play the hot hand out of those three dudes at any given time.

Three straight game Lincecum's left the game with a lead only to have the pen promptly give it away. Gotta be infuriating for a pitcher.

They lose yet again to the Padres. Too bad SF can't play Houston every week.

DeRosa to the DL. The mysterious Freddy Sanchez may be ready by mid-week but until then, we can enjoy the Eugenio Velez experience.

At least Madison Bumgarner had another strong start at Fresno: 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 8 SO

Has his velocity come back at all? I heard he had fallen into the mid-80s on his fastball by the end of Spring.

supposedly in the low 90s now

Hate to kick Todd Wellemeyer when he's down but 5.71 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, a 29:29 K:BB ratio and 9 HR allowed in 41 IP ain't gonna get it done.

The second page and no posts about the savior getting promoted? For shame on all of us.

Posey. Posey. Posey. Looks good so far. I just wish that his playing time would come at the expenses of Molina or Rowand they've been terrible lately.

Lincecum vs. Jimenez today - Don't blink. If both pitchers have their stuff this game could be over in a 15 minutes.

Molina to the Rangers for Chris Ray and PTBNL.

Posey will see an increase in time behind the plate, which is good. I would like to see the extra at bats to go Schirholtz or Bowker in right while Huff moves back to first. I have a feeling though Rowand would start before either of those two. I'd prefer Rowand start in right, while Uribe takes Renteria's spot in the lineup. I wouldn't be surprised though if Huff stays in right, while Pablo shifts to first, Uribe to third and Renteria stays at short.

Bengie's been a good giants, good luck in Texas.

so does this team have any chance of making some noise in the second half, or is one of the best pitching staffs in baseball going to be wasted by this offense again?

The pitching has been relatively average of late. They need to get that straightened out first if they're going anywhere this year. The team is built on the basis of an above average staff, if that isn't there it doesn't matter. And ooof. Why do those games happen in CO?

Bummer. Going to see Strasburg v. Cain & the Giants tomorrow. Will probably be a 1-0, 90 minute game.

Have fun. I'll be parked in front of the TV for that one. I wish we could reserve a few runs from the Brewers' series for this game. We're going to need them.

Giants fans. I will be going to the game August 1st. Looking at ticket master it looks like slim pickings. How hard will it be to get 4 tickets day of game on the street? And is there a sport I should go to find the sellers?

Thanks

Oh yeah always wanted to sit in the Arcade seats. Haw is the view from there?

I've never bought tickets off the street, but hawkers are everywhere around the park.

Thanks, but I just found out the game got moved back cause ESPN is going to televise it. So with the late time I won't be able to make it.

that 3 game set from 10/1 - 10/3 looking awfully big right now.

Here's hoping Posey pulls a hammy and the Gints are 5 back come 10/1....
