***Official San Francisco Giants 2010 Thread (1 Viewer)

It took a while. Looks like Uribe is starting to be the odd man out. Out of the lineup again. Hasn't started since Friday, July 30. No reports of an injury. Though he is 1-for-13 career against Aaron Cook, tonight's starter.

Mike Fontenot for a minor leaguer

Jose Guillen for a PTBNL

I suppose they could help out. The way the Giants are playing now, a 0.01 win could be significant. But if Guillen and Burrell ever play in the same outfield, it could create a reverse vortex that would propel SF Bay back into the Pacific.

It's time for a slump buster.
You guys are playing a tough schedule right now. Hamels tomorrow, and then at St Louis, though I guess you'll miss Wainwright since he went tonight. Timmeh v Carpenter Saturday night should be a fantastic matchup.Doesn't really matter if my boys keep winning 9/10 though.

Oof.Could still use that slump buster though.

We're scoping every fat girl on a dance floor in SoCal right now - still can't find her. :bag:

Looking fwd to a great weekend of beisbol fellas. That Timmay/Latos matchup on Sunday looks extremely tastey - tough to miss opening day NFL action but I may have to head to Petco instead.

GL and enjoy

Long balls
:goodposting: Sanchez has been great against the Pads except for the game were he opened his yap. Looking forward to seeing him deal tonight. :fingercrossed: Three good games in a row would be a lot for him.
So weird, 6 homers in a game at Petco. Hope the filthy Sanchez shows up tonight, not the one who has no idea where the ball is going...

That was the worst pitched good game ever. Whatever. It got the job done. How do you walk 7 and give up 0 runs?
AJ Burnett once walked 8 and pitched a no-hitter ... 143 pitches.

Seems like the Rockies are a bigger threat than the Pads at this point
I don't know. Either way Giants just need to keep winning games. They got the friendliest schedule at this point in time. Take a couple from the Dodgers while those two beat on each other, and everyone will be better off for it.Except the dodgers. BEAT LA.

With both the West and Wild Card potentially in play, the Giants need to worry about themselves now. Maybe when it gets down to a half dozen games to go, it'll be more tactical.

Exactly. Take care of it yourself. Keep winning and you don't have to worry about what those guys do.

I'm glad August is over. The pitching this month has been awesome.

I want Aubrey Huff back next year. It's fun watching him play. The guy seems to give everything he's got on any particular play. Probably has something to do with being 30 games out by this point in the season every other year of his career.

I was wrong about Huff on page one of this thread. Of the Giants' "big" off-season free agent signings, Huff was obviously a good move and DeRosa was a waste. There was a B-R blog post recently about Sabean potentially costing the Giants' season by keeping Posey in the minors to avoid Super Two status. I don't know about that but it's fortunate that they found a buyer for Molina to free up playing time.Uribe has been a valuable piece because of his versatility and power but he's still OPS<100 and an average defender at best. SS will be a big off-season decision for the organization. Renteria has a $10.5M option but that can't possibly happen. If they can bring Uribe back for around the same salary, he's a decent bench option but he'll probably end 2010 with the third most PAs on the team. That's too big of a role for him IMO. Maybe they'll bring back Rich Aurilia for another go-round. :lmao:

I agree 100% with everything here. Shortstop is a big hole for next year and I like Uribe a lot better as the 5th infielder backing up 2nd, short, and 3rd. Another big question is whither Pablo Sandoval? He has regressed in a huge way and I'm by no means sure that he can be trusted to be an everyday player next year, sad as it is to say.It would be really, really nice if Brandon Crawford could come up and take over shortstop, but all the reports I've seen indicate that his bat won't play in the big leagues yet, and might not ever. Im also curious to see if Brandon Belt can make the big club next year.

Huff, Belt and Sandoval could become a logjam at 1B. Sandoval covers as much ground at 3B as your average panda does. His future, such as it is, is at 1B. There's no way he can play third at his current weight.

Belt played mostly 1B at Richmond but has split his AAA time more evenly in the OF. He's put up some SBs in the minors so he has some raw speed. It would obviously be huge if he could hold down a corner OF spot for the next seven years.

All I know about Crawford are his minor league stats. Based on that, I'd be surprised if he can be anything more than a Kevin Frandsen, Ryan Rohlinger type. If Sandoval had a better season with the bat, he'd be a more attractive trade chip. I see enough potential in him to hope they don't trade him when his value is so low. I'm pretty much resigned to Sabean overpaying for another old, mediocre SS. Let the Jeter to the Bay rumors start. :)

The Giants have Freddy Sanchez under contract for 2011 so a 2B like Hudson doesn't make sense. At this stage of his career, Tejada is just an older version of Juan Uribe.

I was thinking about the upcoming SS opening next year just recently. I wouldn't mind Uribe coming back next year at the right price. What's DeRosa's ability SS? If we could fill SS between those two that might work. Ugly defensively maybe, but it might work. That would free up LF for either Burrell (should he return), Belt (if he's ready) or what ever veteran they bring in. From Cot's list of free agents - Here are the SS free next year. *2011 option on contractAlex Gonzalez ATL - I could see this happening. Cristian Guzman TEX - SameJ.J. Hardy MIN Omar Infante ATL * Cesar Izturis BALDerek Jeter NYY -One year of Jeter wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, but I doubt he leaves NY. Julio Lugo BAL Jhonny Peralta DET * - He's not a SS.Edgar Renteria SF * Jose Reyes NYM * Probably out of the price range if even availableJimmy Rollins PHI * Probably out of the price range if even available Ramon Vazquez HOU

I believe the Phillies picked up Rollins' 2011 option at the end of last year.

The SS list is pretty uninspiring.

Ew. Maybe JJ Hardy? The rest of those guys are either going to be way overpaid, over-the-hill, were never good, or some combination of the three.
