I hope the Dutch either allow the Romanians to tie or beat them, so that the Italians would be eliminated. It would be even nicer if the French could beat the Italians, but by the way things look that seems unlikely.

"It's a Dutch Oven, and the French are toast" :lmao: :lmao:

I disagree, I think the French attack looked better than the Italians earlier. Although both looked much better today than on Monday.eta - I am a German and Bayern fan, for that reason I like to see Ribery, Sagnol and Toni do well. But, my French heritage kicks in and I will be pulling for France.

So, do I call you a Nazi or a cheese eating surrender monkey?

A nil-nil draw might be in order here.
If Romania lose, and France and Italy draw, then they all have 2 points.Since I've read that this tournament is using head to head over point diff what happens? They would have all tied each other. Does it then go to point diff?

I haven't ruined the game for myself yet, but I swear if the Azzurri don't win this one, I will be so ####### pissed.

20 minutes into the game thus far....Italians have dominated pretty much, but Romania has had a ton of counter-attack chances, which scare me....the Italian backline isn't what it usually is....

Buffon with a nice game but the neck-scarf is inexcusable. What the hell is he thinking with that??
 I have no idea. I like how Donadoni read this thread and took my suggestions....De Rossi and Grosso starting....38th minute now....Romania has looked much more composed....Italy hasn't looked a threat to score at all in the last 15 minutes....neither team really controlling play....I've been very impressed with Romania so far in the tournament. They were my dark horse pick to make it pretty far, but their defense looks stellar. This has all the makings of another 0-0 draw.

BTW I love the Guy Ritchie Nike commercial and the Adidas commercials with the kids + superstars + Jose Mourinho

I don't care how many times I see 'em...great commercials.

Dear people who were waiting patiently for my 55th minute meltdown > Hey

What the #### is Zambrotta thinking??? Head it back to the keeper???

Wait

Hang on

As I'm typing this, Panucci has equalized. Hopefully the goal they just ####### gifted Mutu will wake them up.

Inconsistent reffing....Toni mauled in the box with no penalty awarded. I guess it's a close call, but if they gave the penalty to Romania, I don't see why they wouldn't give it to Italy.

:sigh: I'm too depressed to be pissed off.

I'll say it again - Donadoni needs to go. I don't know what he's thinking by putting in Ambrosini late in the game. It's almost a throw-away move. Not to say Ambrosini's not a good player, but he's not gonna help score a crucial late winner.

Italy needed this one. All the odds are stacked against them now. Especially if France beats the Netherlands.

I'm gonna watch that game and go to bed. I guess the 06 World Cup was a great run...it could be awhile before we see another...

Yeah, there is some open #####ing about the refs on Skysports from the Italian side. Rightfully so really.I think Italy will go through if they beat France. If they don't beat France Donadoni should be out. New contract or not.

Romania is a good team and the Dutch are going to be resting their big guns. It wouldn't surprise me to see them advance.

That is to be assumed. All free time between football matches for the italians is to be spent complaining about the refereeing of the last game.

Van Basten has impressed me as a coach

Up one to nil he could have brought in a couple of defensive midfielders and tried to eke out a 1-0 decsiion

Instead, he brings in Robben and Van Persie (two offensive forces) and they score the next two goals...

He brings that striker mentality to his coaching

And he still scored the sweetest Euro goal I have ever seen in 1988

Wow. Just wow. 4-1. I have to admit the score is a bit flawwed. Our defense was under a ton of pressure in the 2nd half and the French had several solid scoring opportunities. They could've had a penalty too (hands ball by Ooijer). Mathijsen keeps being the weakest link in our defense, this will cost us at some point.

Either way, we're through to the quarter final, which I don't think anyone expected with the first two opponents in the group being Italy and France. I hope we field our strongest squad against Romania and go for the win. Don't think too lightly about Romania.

There were a LOT of balls loose on the box in front of the Dutch goal...France just couldn't capitalize...With their forwards and Van Der Sar if they just get decent defending in the knockout round, I like their chances..

When you dive as much as Toni does, you stop getting the benefit of the doubt....especially in the box. His rep is starting to catch up with him. I thought he went down on his own FWIW.

Italy is a slow starter. If they beat France, which isn't impossible at all, they could still advance. Netherlands won't just give the game against Romania away. If they field a B squad, which I hope they won't, those guys will want to prove themselves. A win for Italy and a draw or loss by Romania is enough to advance.

Donadoni's contract has a termination clause if Italy fails to make the semi-finals.I didn't think there can be any question that Pannuci's mauling of the Romanian player was a penalty, but the Italians can rightfully complain about the terrible offside call on Toni's first half goal. I can see that it would be a difficult call to make, but can't understand how the linesman can raise the flag if he didn't know the player was offside. The Dutch are obviously extremely impressive right now, but I have to say I don't think the 7-1 aggregate accurately reflects those two games. Stunning results nonetheless.

I finally get to watch the games in my own home!!!

I invited my football loving friends over for breakfast this morning. If any FBGs are in the Bay Area, and want to come over to Oakland, you're invited. There will be beer, mimosas, rhubarb coffee cafe (gf is making it now) and some other stuff.

¡Viva la roja!
