US Team picture is front and center on ESPN.com right now as the lead center story with numerous links to world cup topics.

3 2 1 goal in 10 minutes looks pretty tough to do right now.

ETA - only need 2 right?

Offside - awful miss on that call

Has there been an update on the Stoke goalie? Flipped the game on Sunday and seen him take a horrendous hit to his arm. Guy had to be hooked up to oxygen and carried off on a stretcher. Hope the poor fella is okay.

I'm a little bit shocked at how well the Inter D played in that second half. A genius display of defending.
“It is like having a blanket that is too small for the bed. You pull the blanket up to keep your chest warm and your feet stick out. I cannot buy a bigger blanket because the supermarket is closed. But I am content because the blanket is cashmere. It is no ordinary blanket.” JM

Genius? I wouldn't call putting ten men in the box the entire game genius. It was negative, cynical, and ugly. Probably one of the most cynical displays I have ever seen(a sentiment common at the bar I watched the game). Do you also call rolling around on the pitch every other minute to disrupt play genius? This line says it all: Time of Possession: 86%/ 14%. That isn't genius defense, that is putting everyone on defense. As my friend said during the match: This is the reason Americans will never follow soccer.I agree, it was disgusting and shameful to see a team behave like that. Particularly in the semifinal.I hope Inter gets what it deserves; a thrashing from Bayern.Thats all I'm going to say about this game.

Talk about genius - a Barca supporter complaining about cynical after the dive by Pedro(nice job of rolling around on the pitch too) forced Inter to play like that - it was karma and Barca got what they deserved. The reason Americans won't follow is because of diving p####ies like Pedro.

when you beat your opponent 3-1 in the first leg.....and they're the most gifted club on the planet.....and you go down a man with an hour to go.....you do whatever you have to to do to hold on.

If that means 10 in the box, so be it.

I did not see the game or any follow up. I did see the replay of the goal though. Looks like he landed awkwardly and his arm went in a manner it was not meant to go. Could have been a dislocated elbow or something. It did not look as though the injury occured because of any contact from the Chelsea player.

It's like the first leg against Chelsea from last year all over again. Nobody can hang with Barca unless they're somehow playing anti-football. Arsenal fans have to put up with hearing that type of crap from Wenger all the time, but at least most of them call him out on it. Don't want to see the bus get parked? Don't give up three goals on the road.

thisNot sure what that poster was taking about above. Once they lost the man they had no choice but to pull back and concentrate on frustrating attacks by Barca

Read the entire post. Maybe have someone help you if you're having trouble.

Not happy with the result, but if Barcelona wanted Inter to have to come out and play they shouldn't have conceded 3 goals in the first leg and missed their chances to score a second away goal. I don't blame Inter for being defensive, especially when they went down a man. It sucks, but Inter's job was to get to the final, nothing more.

Mourinho isn't a genius - he's a good tactician and he had the advantage going into this leg. No surprise Inter's defense was as well-organized as it was. That said, he's an ego-maniacal **** and I hope Bayern wipes Inter out in the final.

"We have top players and, sorry if I’m arrogant, we have a top manager."

exactly.......a lot of sour grapes by Barca fansPlus, this is effing Inter Milan - team is very defensive oriented to begin with...they've allowed 31 goals in league play this year so far in 35 games....and haven't allowed more than 34 in an entire year in the past 5 years. Maybe SAF should have taken this approach when Rafael got carded...just saying. I have no problem sitting on the lead. If you don't like it, tough ####, better team moved on, deal with it.

 so true....I am not a big Mourinho fan, but the guy was brought in to do ONE thing, win the Champions League. If he does that, well, as if his head (or asking pricing) could get any bigger. Not sure how much longer he will be in Italy, but hats off to Inter for sure.

Awwwwwww, the beautiful game takes another beating. :violin:

They've also scored a league high 68 in those same 35 games. "defensive oriented"?

Well, with the talent they have, they are going to get their goals.....and certainly Mourinho is not opposed to the attack, but yes, I feel they are a defensively oriented team. AC Milan, Juventus and Roma..hell even Palermo, are much more attacking in my eyes. Just a few years back Inter allowed 25 goals all year, and like I said, they are routinely well under a goal allowed per game.

Unfortunately I won't get to record the game until midnight tonight, so I can't watch this defense for another day.

I understand the Barcelona fans' frustration. Nobody likes to see their opponent park the bus. While it is a valid defensive strategy ,it still sucks to see. I know that whenever the US team plays a team from the Caribbean it is awful to watch.

As mentioned though, with Inter up 3-1 and knowing Barca needed two goals, it was their best strategy.

Regarding the diving, (again, I haven't seen the game yet) everyone complains about the "other team" diving more than theirs. Especially when that team is Italian.

All of the Barcelona fans are welcome on the Bayern wagon for the next month.

I really dont mean any disrespect to any posters on this board, especially when they are loyal soccer FBG's, however...

it sure is nice to see Barca on the losing side of match for once :-)

That's what I'm saying.Genius isn't the right word... more like competent and thorough.

We had a World Cup player draft type of thing awhile back. For bragging rights only, of course.

And re: Davies....there's a HUGE difference between being in shape and being in game shape...IMO...

:) Modern catenaccio at its finest. An ugly game, but it's the Italian way.....I didn't have a dog in the fight, but Inter played superb defensively.

ETA: notice I said modern catenaccio, not the traditional stuff, for you purists....

Altidore jersey arrived today...pretty sick...
Where'd you get it?And, what's that link to the knock-off jersey site? My Forlán jersey is holding up pretty well.
Not sure, to be honest - it was a birthday present, I picked it out awhile ago when they released the new jerseys for the 2010 Cup and gave it to my parents to order. I can't remember where we ordered it from, but it's a legit (read: more expensive :) ) one. Might've been Eurosport or Fox Soccer Shop. The knockoff sites probably have the new digs by now.

Been thinking of grabbing a 2010 Sniejder Netherlands jersey. Seen them for around $100. Nice white jersey with blue trim and a bit of red. Should I page offdee and get a verdict?
