This has been the tale of two halves to the first half, before and after the Barça goal. The teams have flip flopped their attitudes and play.

This crowd is insane. Z/Slapdash (or anyone else who has spent time in either of these cities) - did you ever go to this match? How about RM/Atletico, Z? What's it like?

I never went to a Clásico or a Madrid Derbi unfortunately. The crowds are big though, inside the stadium and out. The plazas fill up with people spilling out of the bars. Pretty much everyone is paying attention. I was around the last time Real won la liga and there were 1 million plus celebrating in the streets until LATE into the early morning.

Much much prettier goal there - excellent work by Fabregas to get his head around the defender after running from such a long distance

Wow. Awful game for Ronaldo.
I was trying to figure out why he never seems to impress me and I guess it's because most of the time I see him play its against Barca. Can't really credit them for containing him today though, he's failed to put in two great chances.
He pretty much destroys everyone else.Pretty sure this won't do much to quell the Messi-related taunting. He was god-awful today.

LOL at Mourinho.

Not to take anything away from our rivals, but luck determined the game today.
I pretty much agree. The Barça second goal was just dumb luck. CRonaldo had 2 open chances to score and blew them both. This should have been a draw. Iniesta was brilliant, and Cesc and Puyol played well, but I thought that Lass and Benzema had very good games as well.

El Classico tomorrow! Madrid is at home with a 3pt lead and a game in hand on Barca. Ronaldo and Messi both have 17 goals and 6 assists each. Game is on GolTV (which I still don't get in HD :kicksrock: )I have a feeling this one will be chippy. Pretty late start at 1PT. Was hoping for an earlier kickoff. Looks like I'll have to dvr it, or take a long lunch break.
You'll be at work while I'm free to watch the games live and at my leisure?THE TIDES HAVE FINALLY TURNED
Well played. I'll see you for the next round of Champions League.

 They each had a dumb luck goal and each blew some good chances. Yeah, a bone-head play by Valdez was the start of Real's goal, but it eventually took a deflection after a save before Benzema put it in. Not much different than Xavi's goal. The better team won today. Away from home, none the less. Real got out played. Simple as that. No more luck in this one than any other game.

And CRonaldo not finishing 2 gimmes?

Isn't that a crucial part of the game, accurately kicking/heading the ball? I'd call that lack of execution and not bad luck. The Xavi goal was bad luck.

I swear Stoke defenders are allowed to get away with murder at home. Shawcross is flat out tackling people in the box and then promptly saved a goal by smacking it off the line with his elbow.

I like the physicality of the English game, but they have to do something about the take-downs on set pieces. Some of these would be penalties in the NFL.

Stoke vs. Tottenham...fantastic match, unbelievable tempo...and totally ruined by an incompetent ref who's missed two handballs in the box and has now sent a man off for an utterly innocuous challenge. Terrible.

iSee what you did there

Man, I knew Stoke would be tough, but I didn't realize they'd have to beat the ref too. Jeez.

didnt see the game, but should Messi have been sent off? Heard reports it should have been a 2nd yellow....

Todays game being dubbed EL Cashico? Saw it on twitter so I cant take credit.

Looking forward to seeing CFCs lineup here in a few minutes, then will go into blackout mode. I think AVB will stick with his first11 from last week, meaning Lampard, Torres and Malouda on the bench and no high back line play.

He got the first for talking back to the ref which is a pretty rare yellow. The could after gets a yellow 50% of the time. It wasn't a clear-cut yellow, imo. Add the two up and definitely isn't a red.

Not IMO. He was booked for dissent. He then clipped a guy, but never left his feet. He was just a little late. Maybe a card if it were his fourth or fifth mistimed standing challenge, but that was probably Messi's first foul other than the dissent. I didn't think either side played dirty, but if it had been called that tight, RM would have finished without their entire midfield. They had twice as many fouls.

I agree. It wasn't a second yellow offense. Although if he didn't have the first, I think it could have been warranted. Remember that la liga reffing is a bit more harsh on the tackling than in the EPL. More fouls, more yellows. BTW, the yellow for dissent was pretty rare, especially for Messi, who's not known as a hothead or a backtalker like that. he must have said something pretty choice to the ref to warrant the yellow.A game like that shouldn't be decided based on a sending off. It gives far too much advantage to one side. I totally agree with the no card there.

Always find the little differences in the Brits vs. us good guys amusing. What's up with those camera angles they love so much? They are always right on top of the camera looking down. Then when they get to the booth it looks like they have the fishbowl effect on.

Regardless of the outcome here the only thing I can see stopping City is a series of injuries to their center-backs. Teams generally always hit ruts with injury runs, but they are so incredibly deep I just don't see how anything can slow them down.

Great play by Sturridge.

ESPN's soccer coverage and commentators are crap. So hard to watch and listen too.

Any chance both City and Chelsea could lose today?

oh well, guess a draw will have to do.... :boxing:
