What's with France and Mexico playing on Telemundo in front of zero fans that I can see? It's the Toulon Tournament (?)Where is everyone?
I just turned this on to see what you are talking about. I don't speak Spanish but these are not the full national sides. I think this is an U20 or U19 tournament. Not sure though.

Just looked it up, it is an U19 tournamenthttp://www.soccerwhatsontv.com/mobile/index.php

Buddle finally breaks his season long drought with an early goal against Houston. Game in on NBCSN.
And the Galaxy lost again, anyway. Wow, what a :tfp: this season has been. Thank goodness they won last year.
And as good as Omar was last year, this mess goes well beyond just missing him. It is hard to imagine them missing the playoffs but it is really starting to look like a real possibility now.

Ted, WTF? I thought Philly might take a step back this season with the offseason moves but this much worse than I expected.

Not sure if the roster will be the same but Brazil handled Denmark in Germany easily(according to reports) today with a 3-1. Hulk had two.

This is going to be a hard friendly for the US on Wednesday

Boyd with the ultra rare first start for his national team before his first start at a pro club team (depending on how you classify his club team).

USA bench: Guzan, Castillo, Onyewu, Beckerman, Corona, Gómez, Wondolowski.

Not in uniform: Dempsey, Rimando, Parkhurst, Goodson, Altidore.

Good video here on the final 23. Skip to the 5:10 mark to see how Klinsmann cuts the final 4 players. Very classy. Also answers the Williams question.

This is my best guess as to what the team might look like against Scotland

.....................Howard

Cher.........Gooch.........Boca.........Castillo

...................Bradley...........Jones

........Donovan...............................Johnson

...........................Dempsey

.................................................Jozy

Although in the back of my mind I also have a feeling Torres may start as well, in place of either Johnson or Donovan.
I've always liked the physicality and athleticism that Maurice Edu brings to the table.Jones, Johnson and Castillo are the weak links here.

Boyd may get some action over Dempsey, which is fine by me. We need to develop him as much as possible.
:goodposting: Pats self on back.

Interesting to see Cam over Gooch...I like the move and am looking forward to seeing what he can bring to the table.

Very happy to see Wondo on the pine. Wouldn't mind seeing him spell Torres or Boyd at 60.

Any good streams for someone stuck in an office for parts of the game? Preferably no-1st row sports or that style a link.

TIA

Ahhh, okay. I was in a Cuban restaurant and the sound wasn't on. Was only in there a few minutes and could have sworn I saw Chiharito. Guess not.

Such a different style/approach compared to Bob Bradley's...interesting to see it come together/evolve.

Boyd's confidence has been impressive given his age.

Interesting screen capture from the video. Shows what appears to be kind of a depth chart for a couple of different formations. http://i49.tinypic.com/2hi8eh4.png
Most intersting parts for me:Bradley isn't starting in either of those formations and Torres starts in both.
There must be something with JK and Bradley...Bradley is an automatic start in my mind and JK is really making him earn it, yet loves Jones and other mediocre midfielders...doesn't make sense.

Klinsmann started off losing 4 of his first 5 games.

Since then the US has won 5 straight games.

That may come crashing to a halt on Wednesday against Brasil but it shows that what Klinsmann is trying to implement may be sinking in.

Worst team in the league. Novak really screwed up a good thing in this town. Hopefully not permanently, as Philly's soccer history isn't as rich and deep as other cities. We'll see.

Tonight's starting lineup was

Howard

Cher Cameron Boca Johnson

Edu Bradley Jones

Donovan Boyd Torres

==========

Easy enough to see Jozy in for Boyd.

Who should Dempsey replace assuming healthy to play on Wednesday? Hard to see either Torres or Donovan not starting after tonight.

Might see Dempsey on for either Edu or Jones and a slight change in formation?

That's the longest interview I've seen with Dempsey. I get the feeling he thinks he is a superior player to Landon and is annoyed that LD steals his thunder as the greatest active American player. I could be wrong, but it feels like that. Went as far to say that Landon is a "great clinical finisher". I wonder if that is a jab in Clint's mind.

I always find it interesting to hear that he and Donovan don't talk much away from the team.

SImply wonderful. Scotland may not be a great test but do we really expect the USA to dominate the games they should?

First 45 - Great pressure put on Scotland and the transitions were quick and impactful. Bradley was the best man on the pitch IMO. Torres looked at home in a defensive winger role. However, his touch the same as most Americans was pretty rough for large portions of the half. Edu in particular could not connect with his teammates. Yet, they finished the initial chance and Bradley's goal was obviously tremendous.

Second 45 - Pure domination. The pressure linked with beautiful touch and teamwork. No weak links and hitting on all cylinders. It was just a joy to watch.

Bradley and Torres had very good halves for the US. The team played well overall.
It was really interesting seeing the constant triangles and ticky-tack passing between Torres, Bradley, Jones and/or LD and Edu. That's a brand new look to my eyes versus the usual more direct route.I loved how much it opened up the attack, but wonder where the Scottish defense was against it. I don't see most teams letting the US have that much space/time to play those short balls so consistently... not to take anything away from the movement, work and interchange between the US players, but I think this was a bit of a mirage. And Torres- good game, but there far too many 2 yard passes that did nothing for my liking... especially when he had time to turn on many of them.

Fascinating from Landon. Two days after he all but says soccer is dead to him, he gets a hat trick in the first 65 minutes. :)
Funny- I thought LD looked a little slow (for him) and disinterested through most of his time: too many careless turnovers of the pass and dribble and not enough attacking the huge amount of space the Scots allowed him.But thumbsup on the finishing for sure.

Would love to see Torres' halftime stats. Passing percentage has to be in 92-95 percent range. Smooth on the ball, silky first touch.

=============

His first half was so sharp. So many short quick balls quickly opened up attacking angles.

:goodposting: I agree with all of this.Great how tight they were defensively too- it seems to me that neither US GK had to make a save? Only a handful of moments that space opened up in the defensive third, and they got shut down fast. Evn though he didn't get upfield as much, I thought Dolo had a fantastic game that recalled his play from before his injury problems. And Johnson looked great going forward and shutting down space quickly.Boyd put in a pretty solid game as essentially the lone striker. Made what seemed to be effective and hard runs into useful spaces (hopefully Agudelo was watching), fought and won more balls than not against tough Scottish defenders and found his way into several scoring chances. Only weak spot was his final touch which was shaky- but for a young, inexperienced guy I loved seeing the fundamentals in place there. The final touch will come with game-time and confidence (actually, that's something Agudelo does have, despite not playing as tactically smart or aware).

Hmmm... I saw a lot that did that, and lot that kind of handcuffed his 2 yards away teammamtes. One thing about him too- he was overcommitting defensively tonight. Diving into tackles and passing lanes... it worked out on the night fantastically, but I wonder if that kind of all or nothing defensive presence is what kept in BB's dog-house? Definitely made me nervous out there, and could get torn apart against better teams.
