Should be the turning point for El Salvador- can their home form continue, or will they fold up on the road. I think the latter. 2-0 Honduras.

it sucked pretty bad.It was a few weeks ago on a Wednesday night, 6:30. We were supposed to have like 15 players (our roster is 18 or 19) and only 9 guys showed. We were playing against a team from a lower league (League 2 compared to our League 1, if you will) at home...should've been an easy win.Well, they had 14 players so we were playing 9v11....we managed to go up 1-0 in like the 20th.....the other team just wasn't good. They were pretty funny about it too, their guys were telling me that we would have kicked their asses 6-0 if we were 11v11....I'm not a cocky *******, but they're right. In like the 40th, we gave up a goal, and then they got a PK right before the half and converted. So we went into the half down 2-1.
Second half, we're applying major pressure, but they get a counterattack and a huge collision in our box in the 63rd....penalty called on us, but it's worse - our captain breaks his arm on the play. Out for the season.
Game is delayed for like 20 minutes while they wait for paramedics (standard procedure, I guess....the guy was alright once we stabilized his arm). So now, it's getting dark. We're playing 8v11.....and they miss the PK. The ref decides that we're only playing 15 more minutes...we pour on the pressure, hit the post twice, and lose 2-1 after only 78 minutes.

Sure looks like that Chelsea offer was solid. I'm sure that 52m€ is something that Atlético is taking seriously. However, I really think that their CL hopes for next season will take a hard hit without el Kun. Furthermore, I think that IF el Kun goes, then it may be likely that Forlán goes as well. Forlán wants to win titles, and he may think that without el Kun, that hope is dead. Pongolle didn´t show a GD thing this year, and Luis García is a shell of his former self.
If either one of Forlán or Kun goes, they will have to pick up another quality striker in order to compete. If they don't, Atlético is staring at 8-10th place in La Liga next season.

Yeah...I honestly don't understand how they comeup with that money, but more power to them.In other news Setanta looks like its in trouble and looking to sell their US channel (they owe the EPL 30 million pounds by Monday for rights). ESPN is out now saying they aren't interested in the US operations/channel, but isn't commenting on interest in EPL rights (which in pr speak means they want the EPL rights, but not the channel). Interestingly the article in the Guardian article said its US operations are profitable which frankly surprised me. So I guess FoxSoccer and GolTV must also be profitable in some form.

I had no idea Onyewu was leaving Standard Liege, this article says he is probably going to Birmingham City. SL will be in the Champions League next year, so I was excited about him getting that opportunity, but getting a chance to play in the EPL every week should be nice. Hopefully it works out better for him this time around. Any other high profile national team guys looking to relocate this summer?

As to where Real is getting this kind of money: Perez announced that he had up to 250 euros to spend this transfer season. It is widely believed that this comes on loans. Of course, how he can get that type of credit in the economic situation of today(particularly in Spain) is anybody's guess.
I don't really think any two players are actually worth 160 million euros in transfer fees, no matter how good.
As to where Real is getting this kind of money: Perez announced that he had up to 250 euros to spend this transfer season. It is widely believed that this comes on loans. Of course, how he can get that type of credit in the economic situation of today(particularly in Spain) is anybody's guess.

It seems that Real is STILL in negociations for David Villa, rumored to be around 32m€. I don't think they have the capital to pull that one off, but wow what a lineup that would be.

I was just reading an article the other day about how teams that have a ton of debt are starting to have problems. I forget which Spanish team it was (I want to say Valencia, but I'm not sure)....but they're in trouble I guess. I am pretty sure that Real has the clout to get any type of capital they ask for.That is an impressive lineup, but how much better is it really than the players they have there currently?In the attack they have:Gonzalo Higuaín Raúl Klass Jan Huntelaar Arjen Robben Wesley SneijderRuud van NistelrooyCertainly no slouches and their offense was not their weak point. Would those three really be 200 million euros better?

I have to admit that I didn't watch much soccer from 2003 to 2007 or so (except for the World Cup). Which means that I missed Kaka's Champions League heroics for AC Milan. So I have to admit that from what I've seen in the past two years, I find Kaka kind of overrated.
He's certainly a very good box to box midfielder. But he wouldn't have made my Best XI in the last two years.

Don't completely disagree with you, even though he IS a wonderful player. That said, his pass to Crespo in the CL final vs Liverpool was one of his crowning moments as a player and probably the single play that sticks out in most peoples minds. People come to expect that kind of magic every week but thats usually not the case.

That's why I was surprised when ESPN lost the Champions League. They routinely run all the major European League results on their crawls. A soccer play makes the Top Plays segment regularly. Its clear they're positioning themselves for some type of European League, IMO. I still think the UEFA leagues should band together and sell a "European Game of the Week" package for American audiences. I know I would watch that, and I have plenty of friends who weren't interested in soccer until they saw the very best players.
Robben is always hurt, ugh!I have not heard any word yet on who they will be on the prowl for, but there are a few more holes to be attended to also.Ideally, I wouldn't mind Ribery coming over - but I heard he isn't going anywhere for any type of reasonable transfer. Tevez may not be back, Giggs and Scholes are about at the end of the line, Van der Saar is at the end of the line.Earlier there was talk of Sergio Ramos coming over - that would be a nice back four with Evra/Rio/Vidic/Ramos - not sure if that is in the works any more.I guess we'll see how it plays out. Perhaps Berbatov will now be given the freedom to extend his play (as last year he was used much more in a setup role and asked to get the ball into the attack to Rooney and Ronaldo).

I think they will certainly keep Tevez now. I wouldn't worry too much, Manchester has the deepest squad around.Personally, I am a fan of Dimitar and hope to see him be able to play his game with United if they don't bring in someone else up top.
I'm not quite worried, cupboards aren't exactly barren for sure.It is tough to lose arguably the best player in the world when he is what, 22 years old? I'm not sold Tevez would/should come back. He would add nice depth, but the skills he possesses don't replace what was lost in Ronaldo. Berbatov has some of those skills.And of course, there is plenty of money now to be spent. Lets not forget about Zoran Tosic, nor the 18 year old Brazillian twins either (Rafael made a small impact last year, where Fabio made nothing). Also, Chelsea and Liverpool seem to have added some quality established depth.Wouldn't mind seeing Pato coming to Old Trafford, I love the way that guy plays...when he does get his head into the game at least.

Bayern's asknig price for Ribery was reported to be 65 mil. euros. The difficulty in replacing Cronaldo is that he is a dynamic winger and an extremely prolific goal-scorer, so very difficult to replace his production with one player. Ribery may come closest to filling that role. A Robben/Schneider duo would be a massive let-down on both roles in my opinion.

He looked pretty magical during his Champions League run and deserved every bit the accolades he received for it. In the two years since he has played well, but not well enough to even be in consideration for a Best XI side. I would think that when you are paying 70 million euros in a transfer fee you would want to be getting a player that was.

Robben was OK, Sneijder was a disappointment, RVN is getting long in the tooth, and Raúl, other than the fact that I hate him, is ancient and in his death throes of a career. I think that 2 out of Huntelaar, Sneidjder, and Robben are on the outs. The "Dutch Experiment" at Real is fast coming to a close. They'll WANT out, especially if they really do land Villa.They'll keep Higuaín I think, and lord knows that Guti isn't going anywhere.It sure looks like Real reloaded to take on Barça. Should make for an interesting season in la Liga. Ronaldo will get to match up against Puyol at least 2x more, which alone I think will be intriguing.What would Real's starting lineup be if they land Villa?4-4-2?

I always thought that Kaka was criminally overshadowed in the media by Ronaldinho for a few years. He never really got the credit he was due, at least in the American media, IMO. There were a few years where he was probably the best in the world..

If the price is 65 mil, then I think the market shrinks to just Real Madrid. I cannot see another club paying that. Barca looks like they will lose interest when it is north of 40.I disagree that Robben/Schneider would be a let down if brought into Manchester. I think they are both very dangerous players, particularly when they are on the pitch together. I likely rate them higher than most, but in the 07/08 campaign they were a nightmare to play against.
