Soccernet had an article up making it look like ESPN was going to air Arsenal v. Everton but I just checked ESPNtv and they're showing stupid Little League Baseball all weekend.

Also, Davies is overrated, imo. Yes, he scored a nice goal. But on how many occasions did he try to go 1 v 3 and get easily dispossessed. He cannot create for himself...oh, did he also miss that header that was on a plate in the penalty area in the game?
He definitely mistimed the header. I have the same problem running onto headers though I'm very accurate and when not having to sprint I think I'm pretty good in the air. I missed one just like that this week so I laughed about it but it is a bit disconcerting for a young speedy professional forward to do that as opposed to an old slow duffer of a midfielder. I'm not sure overrated is fair. He is actually a great complement to the game we play. His speed alone creates opportunities that would otherwise not exist and we don't possess the ball enough against quality opponents to go for a guy with great technique (nor do we have one anyway). Yes, he puts his head down too much and charges forward at times, but the alternative is to pass it back and watch us lose possession further up the field (kidding, but it sure seems that way at times).
Sorry, but a recreational player missing a header is one thing. A striker on a national team....not even getting his head on the ball....is another.I agree that his speed definitely creates opportunities, similarly to Altidore, but again, far too often I see him trying to take on 2 & 3 defenders, when a pass to another player is the obvious play. I still like Davies just fine, just don't want to see him out there 90 minutes (or until cramps set in).
That header wasn't exactly a gimme, was it? My impression was that the guy threw himself at the ball, but just barely came up short.

This is what I thought, but I remember not paying full attention at the time the header attempt happened, so I figured I missed something...

Yeah, I'm not going to fault the guy for missing on it, although I was crushed when he did. I thought he should have been subbed sooner, but oh well. It was just so tantalizingly close.

If any Bradley shouldn't be seeing the field it's Bob, not Michael.

The kid can play and he deserves that starting spot. It's yet to be seen if Jermaine Jones and Feilhaber would do better than Bradley and Clark, but for the time being... that spot is all MB.

Clark on the other hand played very poorly and I think his run in the starting 11 might be coming to a close quickly.

A few more comments: I didn't like the way that LD had to track back all the way to the end line to defends and try to dispossess the Mexican wingers. That's a bad sign for the team as it means that the opposition wingers are getting up the field, the defense is packing into the center, and that LD cannot effectively counter attack from 105 yards away from the opposition goal. Aside from the fact that he's simply not a great defender and is too small to get really stuck in, he needs to play higher up for the US to have good goal scoring opportunities. So many of our chances come from LD doing something with the ball, whether it's making a guy miss in the midfield, making a diagonal run, or even making a great through-pass. Finally, I much prefer him on the left and Dempsey on the right (they switched up a bit too much this game I think).

I really hope that Jones provides some semblance of possession in the defensive MF. It could be a wonderful improvement that could put the US on the next level.
:o I'm pretty sure due solely to Boca's inability to play wide. At this stage Boca really isn't a LB on the national stage, and anytime he's out there, it should be first place opposing teams with any speed on the flank attack. Thought Holden added some presence on the ball that we were lacking, and if we're going to continually push Dempsey up to forward when the first sub, the question needs to be asked if he should start there since at this point either Feilhaber/Holden/Jones > Ching

Hope Donovan didn't infect the whole team

who is gonna play more Skertl or Agger
You mean, all season, or this weekend? If you're talking about all season........Skrtel is a mainstay, but has an injury at the moment. Agger is looking to be a regular starter for the first time. If I had to choose between the two, I would go Skrtel, but be aware of the injury.
oof. Just read Agger and Carragher have niggling injuries as well. Liverpool might not have any centerbacks healthy for Sunday.

nice to see that the Arsenal-Celtic game will be on Foxsports in HD. I don't recall espn ever showing the final round of qualifying, could be wrong though.

Maybe old news but I haven't seen it in this thread. Starting next Saturday, ESPN2 will be airing two EPL games per week, one Saturday morning and one Monday afternoon. First up potentially Jozy's first game - Hull City v Chelsea. The link has a partial schedule of what will be showed. Curious if we will get HD.
Still no confirmation as far as I can tell that ESPN is showing EPL football this Saturday. As of right now, I'm planning to listen to Chelsea's opener on Sirius radio in my garage. Will record Everton - Arsenal, which looks like the most interesting game on FSC from the opening weekend.

Looks like I'll be getting up early for the start of the season. Arsenal-Everton at 12:30 should be good too...time to break out the Theo Walcott jersey once again....It'd be amazing if ESPN puts these games in HD.

Yeah, I have Cox as well. It switches over to off-air quite a bit but it'll have the games this week. On Wed they're showing Panathinaikos (sp) and some team I've never heard of.

Not for those of us without the channel..
You have FSC but not the regular fox sports channel? Or you just don't get it in hd?
Correct, no Fox Sports Channel, yes Fox Soccer ChannelEvery once in awhile the local Sabres affiliate will pick up a game with the Fox feed and they'll show it on the MSG network for the duration of the game, but that's it.ETA - you can order separate packages that come with it, I think, but we don't get those channels.

Anyone know what 461-466 on Directv is? Is this a free preview or some sort of new channels? It shows Sunderland-Chelsea Tues and also has several CL knockout matches scheduled and all appear in HD (it has two channels but the -1's are HD).

I can't find anything on their site and the channels don't appear blacked out for me...

I dunno who will go the bench for Villa when Downing gets healthy. I would guess Delph but that leaves them with only one central midfielder. Pretty entertaining start so far.

Fox Soccer Match Day just reported that Fox Soccer Channel will be carrying Celtic/Arsenal on Tuesday ;)

Fabregas-Song-Denilson in the midfield today....great! :lmao:

I'll say 1-1. Jo for Everton and Bendtner for Arsenal.

Drogba with a beautiful/cheekymiss-hit cross winner late into stoppage time....oh my
If he was actually trying to cross it, that was one of the poorest crosses I've ever seen...it looked to me like he was actually trying to score, but who knows...
It was a cross.
 well, it was a hell of a goal either way...
Best goal I ever scored was an attempted cross from the end line that I curved into the top corner. I took it.

Hate to see it happen against Howard but good god are Arsenal fun to watch when they play well. This Wenger guy knows a thing or two.

:goodposting: on both counts.I don't think you can put any of those goals on Tim Howard though. Maybe the first one, although it looked like more of a perfect shot/defense not stepping up than anything. Second two were completely unmarked headers where he had no chance...maybe he could've stopped the 4th, he got an arm on it, but if Baines (IIRC) wasn't a half-step behind Fabregas he never would've gotten the shot off.
