Well, considering where Honduras is at as a country, I guess it's not completely surprising that they pissed away a ton of revenue here.

Hmmmm... at a sports bar in Madison Square Garden- tickets still available ($20), PLUS you get an autograph by Shep Messing who is hosting the event.

Just made long overdue plans with the wife- oof.

eta: I didn't make the MSG plus Shep Messing thing sound as goofy as it actually does to me... I want to watch this thing, but ugh.

Honduras put it up for bid and sold it to the highest bidder. ESPN passed because they decided it was too expensive. Doesn't sound much like they lost a ton of revenue.

I think if the game is streamed on justin.tv I just might give a donation....
I am not 100% sure but I don't think closed circuit games are carried by various internet "providers". I think it is different from general PPV where if you look long enough you can find a stream. If you do find something about this, please post.

Nice... so I can go back to hating ESPN again :)
no one knows for sure, but the rumor that Goff has been printing is that the price they were asking was foolish.Notice that not even Univision or Telemundo won the Spanish rights either and they both usually bid significantly more than ESPN for English games.

Germany v Nigeria in the U20 World Cup just finished. I've been watching the ticker and it was 0-0 at the half with one yellow shown to Germany.

The second half went like this:

'51 Goal for Nigeria

'52 Goal for Germany

'56 Yellow card to Germany

'64 Straight Red card to Germany

'68 Goal for Nigeria

'75 Goal for Germany

'90 Yellow card to Germany

'90+3 Goal for Germany

Germany win 3-2 in what sounds like one crazy half.

Can't believe the Germans are so good they beat two teams at once :hophead:

Germany's play so far (this is basically their C team of U-20s at Bundesliga sides) has to be Exhibit A on why we need a MLS reserve system. Rongen said as much, but until it happens it feels like any guy that suceeds is doing it in spite of our system.

You guys see that Roberto Carlos is returning to Real Madrid? He'll play the 2nd half of the season (coming in the Jan transfer window) for them. He's 38 but can still play IMO. He likely won't start, but can be a credible backup and used for spot starts as well. Finally, he could be a late-game sub to try and knock in a free kick, as he's deadly going around a wall.

Finally, he'll be playing FOR FREE as well. Real won't pay him a dime. Looks like "El Pitoniso" wants another title of some sort.

The rich get richer.

According to this you can get the game for $15 per seat in your bar. Does anybody who what sort of equipment is involved? If you don't need much it seems you could get a small group together and get the game at a small bar.

I am so depressed. One day away from the US's biggest game in years and many of us will be "watching" via match tracker....

With the way Costa Rica has looked recently (fired coach, lots of injuries) I think this game's import goes down a little. We can't really expect anything @Honduras in my opinion, Costa Rica is the game that really really matters. It'd be great to wrap it up tomorrow but even if we lose it's not that big of a deal. We have to be able to beat Costa Rica at home.

I agree with all of this. But I have to admit to an unsettling feeling of it all coming down to the last game....With how much is on the line, I would be happy to back in tomorrow with a CR loss to T&T although with CR at home and even with their current form, this is probably a long shot.

Yeah it's frightening. I wish CONCACAF got to play Bahrain or New Zealand instead of the 5th placed South American team.

I think the bar will be PACKED tomorrow. There's 3 of us and we're planning on getting there 1.5 hours early to get a seat. It should be interesting.

They better not throw up and Budweiser ads on the top of the screen either. I'll be pissed.

Just saw that Dempsey is out...who do we want to see replace him?
For me, its Holden.I'm guessing it will be Feilhaber though. I'm not complaining either way. I really hope Torres gets a look at some point. And i still think leaving Castillo at home for this is inexcusable. Bringing guys like Connor Casey and Jimmy Conrad in is a no upside type of move. They arent gonna play. Hell, they probably wont even make the game day roster. I sure hope he doesnt pull this nonsense with Jones (assuming he ever gets healthy again before SA)

any of the enthusiasts know anything about Gabriel Ferrari?

Was just browsing the ESPN US site and came across a story about him. Is in the senior team radar at all? Native New yorker with triple citizenship (US, Brazil and Italy). Claims he wants to play for the US, not Italy. (like a certain traitor from my home state)

Paul Caligiuri (born May 8, 1964 in Westminster, California) is a retired American soccer player.Caliguiri's professional career spanned 16 years, during which he played for numerous teams in the United States and Germany, and for the U.S. national team. During his 14 years as a defender and defensive midfielder with the national team, he earned 110 caps and scored five goals.Caligiuri is best remembered for his game-winning goal widely dubbed the "Shot heard round the world,"[1] which he scored in a 1-0 World Cup qualifier victory over Trinidad and Tobago on November 19, 1989. The victory qualified the United States for the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy, its first World Cup berth since 1950.
awesome

Is Bob Ley at the game today?

They showed him at a non-descript stadium talking about how the game will only be shown on closed-circuit TV, etc....how ESPN will have full highlights and reports as soon as the match ends and such.

Is there any radio coverage perhaps? I listen to EPL games on Sirius every weekend and would say that is better than watching online updates for two hours.

Bees swarmed the goal at the start of the Mexico game. Never seen anything like this before. Dudes pulled out some fire extinguishers to kill/scare them off.

It still going on. Bees swarmed onto a mic now.

I believe it costs the bar, at a minimum, $2500, and they are forced to make patrons pay a cover if they want to show the game by the company who purchased the rights to this game. Absolutely un-acceptable...All the info on the debacle, how it happened, why it happened/etc can be found here: Soccer By Ives(pretty damn good soccer blog focusing on Team USA)

So flying to Honduras, buying a bullet-proof vest and helmet, employing a personal body guard for 4 hours and scalping tickets would've been cheaper...

I know USA soccer was kind of powerless here, held hostage, so to speak, by greedy fraks, but putting this game on prime-time TV, even if USA soccer had to pay Fox/Espn/etc, was necessary for the growth of the game. People may not like MLS, but those same people will tune it to watch the national team. Sigh...

Half time across South America. A bunch of 0-0s except for Chile 2-1 over Colombia. If things stay this way, Uruguay can completely eliminate Argentina from the World Cup by beating them at home in Montevideo

Argentina finally gets things going with a goal. Presumably the crowd puts the D-batteries they were about to throw away for awhile.
