Now on to Gerrard. My opinion of him used to be a lot higher. That was when he had Xabi playing next to him. Since then he hasn't looked to be in the same class as other top-flight central midfielders with an attacking bent. I'm not saying Xabi's world class either (I don't think he is) but they played exceptionally together at 'pool. I haven't seen the same connection with Lampard, and honestly, I don't think it's Lampard's fault. These two should be able to dominate the central part of the pitch together, but while watching England play, that doesn't happen as often as I would think. Furthermore, I don't think Gerrard makes the players around him better and doesn't get the wings involved as I'd like. Look I'm a Liverpool fan, and if you would have asked me a year or more ago, I would have said absolutely that Gerrard is world class, but now... he's looked ordinary.
You are "Walking Alone" on this one buddy.
It reminds me of when he was dogging my man Crouchy a while back. I think Z does it just to be different. :goodposting:

NUMBER ONE: Expand Major League Soccer to 20 teams, and instead of splitting the 20 teams into two conferences of East and West, split them into MLS 1 and MLS 2. The top 10 teams of the year in, say 2012, would qualify to be in MLS 1, and the other 10 would play in MLS 2. I'll possibly allow exceptions, letting into MLS 1 a team that has had a wealth of history and championships in MLS (I'm looking at you, D.C. United, and your inexhaustible team president, Kevin Payne) if it has an off year in 2012, and bumping down to MLS 2 some punk team that had one good year at the right time but is perennially a lovable loser.

Serbia will be a pretty tough opponent for Germany in the world cup. They often have problems handling teams physically tougher teams from the Balkan. Should be a very interesting match.

just the USMNT. I also watch every ManU game i can, but i wouldnt say i'm a fan. I just like watching them play. (although not as much this year with ronaldo gone).

Yeah, that was quite a read. I like the idea of a single table format. But this is too much. Just have the MLS teams in one league and try to negotiate a deal with USL to be the lower divisions.

This is a vg article. What they could do is start everyone MLS in league one and relagate into year two. I would actually go to a Revs game even if they were league two with this set up. It would make it very interesting.Edited to say I think thats what his plan was anyway. Oops. But no exceptions for DC or anyone. Play by the rules everyone.

U.S. midfielder Jermaine Jones resumed training with his club team Schalke Tuesday. The official Schalke Web site reported that Jones, who underwent surgery at the beginning of the summer due to a shin injury, joined the team's afternoon training session.Jones was originally slated to return from the injury in September, but had suffered complications with his rehab

United with an absolutely dreadful lineup today - starting Carrick and Fletcher as central defenders, and Park and Evra on the wings. Midfield of Gibson, Nani, Scholes, Welbeck and Anderson - Owen up top, Kuzszak in goal :pickle:

I'll be watching the Juve/Bayern game. I can't see Bayern getting a win in Italy, but stranger things have happened

wow, that is quite awful.

French wunderkid Gael Kakuta starting for Chelsea tonight alongside Drogba in the Champions League vs. Apoel.

Ive seen him brielfly on a few occastions - this kid is electric. Will be interesting to see if hes worth all the trouble Chelsea have gone through to sign him.

2-1 Chelsea after 27 minutes. Apoel with an early goal but countered soon after by a blast from Essien from outside the box. On Chelseas second, Kakuta played a tremendous ball toZhirkov who crossed to Drogba for a clinical finish.

Essien just left the game with what looks like a leg/knee injury. Pretty bad for Chelsea if its serious.

TitusIII - Manchester City....

Spent a year working in and around Manchester, loved rooting for the underdog. Glad to see they now have one of, if not the richest owners in the game. Going to be a fun decade for City fans...

As for the MLS relegation system...this absolutely needs to happen for me to take the MLS seriously. As it stands, it's quite the joke of a league. Doesn't one man/group own half the teams? Getting the best teams involved in some world-wide tournaments would help as well. Probably not going to happen though, I'm sure the powers that be are opposed to relegation for some ridiculous reason.

FYI Kakuta is playing behind Drogba in the center of the field, not on the flank. Very interesting as I wouldnt think thats his best position given his small frame. Ancoletti has Malouda, Cole and Zhirkov making runs up the side of the field.

Speaking as a long-suffering Chelsea fan, while its great to finally win some hardware and to expect to be in the running for multiple trophies every season, being a fan of a nouveau riche club is often annoying. Forget your "rooting for the underdog" image. Regardless of who you are as a fan and how long you've been with City, you are now essentially a Yankee fan in the eyes of the world. Even fans of the largest, most successful clubs in the history of european soccer will now consider you a front runner by comparison.

In other words, damned if you do and damned if you dont.

So I'm not sure if Atletico is out of Europa league now or what... They have a worse goal differential that APOEL who drew at Samford Bridge, but some places have them listed as the 3rd place finish...

Wikipedia has them 3rd as well. Not sure
Looks like they're 3rd. I'm not really sure how exactly.FWIW, they played horribly in CL this year. 3 draws and 5 losses, -9 goal differential. They lucked into Europa League and will likely #### themselves in the first game anyway. This team is just in tatters.

Tiebreakers, if necessary, are applied in the following order:Points earned in head-to-head matches between the tied teams.

Total goals scored in head-to-head matches between the tied teams.

Away goals scored in head-to-head matches between the tied teams.

Cumulative goal difference in all group matches.

Total goals scored in all group matches.

Higher UEFA coefficient going into the competition.

I'm not a fan of the away goals rule and this is a particularly bad application of it, but it looks like Atletico moves on.

great little move from Obertan to set up Owen's 2nd goal.

at the end of the match, the announcers said that 2 CSKA Moscow players came back with positive doping tests. Could mean they lose their spot in the next round.

I saw footage today of the fire at Bradford City in 1985. Crazy situation

Then you got the loony hooligans who are cheering as people are burning and dying in front of them.

I think 38 people died

Bayern pulled off an amazing game today with the 4-1 victory over Juventus.Goals by Butt (a pk by the keeper  ), Olic, Gomez and Tymoshcuk.

The actually looked like a team today.

Injuries, basically noone left in defence. How did Carrick look? He was decent back there against West Ham.Forgot to tape this, have to try and catch a replay. Been impressed whenever I've seen Wellbeck play though.

Let's just say, the central defense was in shambles and it showed. Constantly out of position and guys left free. But, the United defensive plan as a whole was solid. They clogged the middle with as many bodies as they could and made Wolfsburg try to break them down on the wings. Their lone goal was exactly what should have been done as they totally ran around Park, and crossed it into the box to a wide open Dzeko who couldn't help but to head it in. They had another chance, where exactly the same play was made, run around Park, cross, and the striker totally whiffed on the volley. Oh, Carrick also should have been called for a pk on a blatant foul in the box, not sure exactly how that was missed. Fletcher was a bit better defending, but still often out of position. And yes, the Obertan play was terrific. I see another Nani in him though, flashes of brilliance surrounded by hours of misplays.

yeah, the carrick slide tackle should have been a foul. Grafite had an awful game for Wolfsburg

And the Obertan comparison with Nani makes sense. Too early to know though.

no. AEG owns 1.5 teams and the Hunt family still owns 2 teams. All other teams are individually owned.FC Dallas - Hunt Family

New England Revolution - Kraft family

NY Red Bulls - Red Bull Inc

Colorado Rapids - Stan Kronkee

Toronto - MAPLE LEAF SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT

Chicago Fire - Andell Holdings

Chivas - Antonio Cué Sánchez-Navarro

DC United - William H.C. Chang

Columbus Crew - The Hunt family

Houston - AEG and Oscar De la Hoya

KC Wizards - OnGoal LLC

LA Galaxy - AEG

Philidelphia Union - Jay Sugarman (and other minority owners)

Real Salt Lake - David Checketts

San Jose Earthqaukes - Lew Wolff

Seattle Sounders - Joe Roth (and other minority owners like Drew Carey)

Both expansion sides Portland and Vancouver also have their own ownerships.

yeah, was really shocked by how this game played out. Bayern took the play to Juve all game long. And Butt owns Juve with 3 CL goals against them...as goal keeper! Love it, his pk was awesome, Chelsea should look into signing this guy

Maybe, but I took a liking to them way before they were fortunate enough to luck into an ownership group with a bottomless wallet. I had a choice(8 years ago), to root for one of two teams during my stay in Manchester, and I picked City. If that makes me a front-runner, so be it...

BMO Field (home to Toronto FC) has removed the field turf and will be putting down a proper grass playing surface.

Interesting. I was a bit skeptical when I saw what you posted, but after reading the article it sounds fine. The weather isn't always "spring"-like in March, but the underground heating should be good. I checked and TFC doesn't have a home game til April 17 anyway. As the Only FFA Fan of Toronto FC, I approve of this.Regardless, they had been talking about it for awhile for FIFA purposes. I think they want the stadium to be the official home of the Canadian Men's National Team, and this was one of the steps they were taking to ensure that.

Yep, bizarre play from Wolfsburg. Carrick and Fletcher really didnt know what to do - saw lots of unmarked bodies on set pieces too (one point blank header that should have scored early was Fletcher's man but he never saw him). They should have really just kept pumping the ball in between the two of them and waited for the inevitable. The run that led to Carrick fouling in the box was a classic example that they really didnt know how to react. My utd update:Park still sucks (well, not sucks so much, just huffs and puffs without ever actually achieving anything)Obertan looks very coltish in a sadly David Bellion kind of way. Nani is much more polished (actually I think he's hugely talented) but somehow cant seem to learn the basics. I think his time might be up - he certainly seems very low on confidence too. I can see him doing a "Forlan" and blossoming somewhere else.Wellbeck crapped the bed a bit, not ready.Scholes is really playing well in the 3 man midfield.Kusczak is growing on me.Nice to see Owen still has something to offer - Wolfsburg defence not really up to it though.Bad Bad sign that the busy spell is about to start with so many on the sidelines. Villa might test the merits of the 1-8-1 formation this weekend..

Looks like Landon is going to play for Everton. I think that's great.
cool if it goes through. Although very tough for Galaxy fans to swallow. This may kill their solid fan base. If this goes through and is structured like Becks loans, both Landon and Becks won't be back to MLS until after the WChttp://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id...ers&cc=5901
I think he would be better in Italy, but I would be happy to see him in the EPL.

This is a win-win move for me. Everton, who I support, get a decent player for free to help cover injuries. English defenders will familiarise themselves with the best American player before the WC.

Allegiances

International: England

EPL: Everton

MLS: Columbus Crew

Agreed, Landon falls into a nice opportunity in the EPL, hopefully he can take advantage of it and stick around for the next five years or so.

Any insight as to why LD didn't excel in Germany?
His ego got in the way. He thought he was better than he really was and started whinning when he didn't get enough playing time.In his defense:1. He was very young - just 162. Bayer Leverkusen were extremely good - almost won the Bundersleaga, almost won the Champions League (got the nickname Bayer Neverkusen) 3. A revolving door of coaches4. He was competing for a place with the best young German player of the decade - some guy called Michael Ballack

I was wondering if anyone has seen the official 2010 Italia Kit for sale somewhere? I was looking to get my daughter a jersey for Christmas. I did a quick search and found the Euro 2008 but was looking to get her something to wear for the summer.
