Wow, Dean Ashton just retired. That's a shame, that was one tough dude playing striker. I always remarked he looked more like a rugby player than soccer player. Only 26 years old.

I was wondering if anyone has seen the official 2010 Italia Kit for sale somewhere? I was looking to get my daughter a jersey for Christmas. I did a quick search and found the Euro 2008 but was looking to get her something to wear for the summer.
You want the official kit?Why pay exorbitant prices when you can get a quality "replica": http://www.bornprosper.com/cart/default.asp
A replica is fine - was just looking for the version that will match what they will wear in South Africa and I don't see that yet. I've seen a few other countries kits - mainly adidas and nike. But Italy is Puma an I haven't seen any from them yet.

 I'm not sure these count as replicas. They're either straight from the sweatshop authentics with the middleman cut out or fakes. Regardless, my Liverpool one is holding up great (much better than the team). Looking forward to buying a USMNT one between now and South Africa.

Any insight as to why LD didn't excel in Germany?
His ego got in the way. He thought he was better than he really was and started whinning when he didn't get enough playing time.In his defense:1. He was very young - just 162. Bayer Leverkusen were extremely good - almost won the Bundersleaga, almost won the Champions League (got the nickname Bayer Neverkusen) 3. A revolving door of coaches4. He was competing for a place with the best young German player of the decade - some guy called Michael Ballack
the first time he went to Germany he was way too young. He hated the lifestyle, the culture and basically was not mature enough to handle such a huge change as a 17 year old California bred kid. There was no way this was going to work. The second time he went to Germany, he was a much more polished player and adult. That is the one where things should have gone better but he could not get any playing time, was in a deep relationship with Bianca (who was trying to build her own Hollywood career so they could never be together). The combination of no playing time and not being near Bianca caused him to work a deal with MLS, AEG and Bayer to get himself back to MLS and on to the Galaxy which allowed him and Bianca to live together. The side affect of thise most San Jose fans(the team he left to go to Bayer) to hate him with a ferocity not usually seen in MLS (the first few San Jose LA games back then were amazing passionate, something missing from most MLS games)Bianca and Landon eventually married but are now separated. Interestingly, I would argue that since his separation he has been playing some of the best ball of his life.

Really exciting game here between Bolton and City
:shrug:Interesting event. Craig Bellamy takes a dive and gets booked with a yellow. He starts arguing and the ref pulls out the red.The announcers are confused - why did he get a red? The way the ref did it, it looked like he was pulling a second yellow because he immediately went for the red. But Bellamy hadn't been booked in the game thus far...

They are screwed now...down a man and a goal

Never mind - refs now saying that Bellamy was booked early in the second half after Bolton went up 3-2, and no one saw it....none of the online "gamecast" sources, not the announcers, etc. Probably be a point of contention after the game.

Meh, Bolton's not very good, but if City doesn't get 3 points, I'm cool with it...

Bayern crushed Bochum today 5-1 with goals from Olic (2), Gomez, Pranjic and an Own Goal.

This moves Bayern up to third in the table, 2 points off the top. With the win in Turin this week things are looking much better in Munich.

Olic has been HOT!

And Villa beats United at Old Trafford for the first time since 1983
Did you see Rooney hit the crossbar in the first half?I have no idea sometimes how those guys free themselves in those tiny areas. Unreal I think.
He looked solid along with a couple of others but that was the worse match I have ever seen Man. U play. The D and keeper looked like they were drinking before the match. Lots of confusion and weirdness. Old man keeper looked great for the villans.

Big match between Liverpool and Arsenal tomorrow at 10 am Central on FSC. I have a bad feeling about it. Could well be Rafa's official doom.

I wonder what Klinsmann will change once he's on the job.
I still think he should take the USMNT job...who else remembers when those rumors circled in this thread awhile back?
Don't we have some kind of unspoken rule about hiring only Americans?
Sorta yeah, but Klinsmann lives (at last I heard) in southern California and is married to an American woman. He used to play semi-pro/amateur men's league matches in southern California under a fake name as of a few years ago.

Atlético was tied 1-1 with Villarreal in Madrid though the 91st. Gave up a header with 2 guys marking Llorente for a Villarreal road win.

Seriously, how many times does your defense have to #### the bed before you just cut all of them? You simply can't do that.

Serious question here (not trying to  )....

At what point do Liverpool fans start to really worry about missing the Champions League? I've been worried all year for Arsenal, but they appear to at least be in decent shape as we near the halfway point. United and Chelsea are givens....as for the rest...

Arsenal - 31 points (15 GP)

Villa - 29 points (16 GP)

----------------------

Spurs - 27 points (16 GP)

Man City - 26 points (15 GP)

Liverpool - 24 points (16 GP)

Birmingham - 24 points (16 GP)

Fulham - 23 points (16 GP)

That's the EPL table as it stands now, spots 3-9. I know it will be tough for the smaller clubs to stick with it all season, so I think we can rule out Birmingham and Fulham, regardless of how well they're playing now. Spurs are starting to show a little bit of wear, but they're still right up there on 27 points. Villa are looking like a strong 5th, "slugfest-for-4th" type of team at this point.

I know it's still early, but Manchester City are pretty dangerous with 2 points and a game-in-hand on Liverpool. I'm still worried about them for Arsenal's sake. As we near the halfway point, I think we're going to see a 4-team battle for 2 Champions League spots between Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City, and Villa. I don't think Spurs will last, but I guess we'd have to re-evaluate that after another 10 games or so.

Will Liverpool sack Benitez and bring in someone like Klinsmann? The last time one of the "Big 4" missed the Champions League was 2005, when Everton narrowly beat out Liverpool for a spot...

the last few have been American but Bora was the coach during the 94 run.I don't think there is any hard and fast rule. In fact I would be willing to bet my house that if the US grab less than 2 points in the first round, that the next coach will most certainly be a foreign coach.

Wow, I wonder if FSN is going to televise Championship games next year so Liverpool fans can get their fix.
 I more worried about relagation at this point than making the Champions league. We suck. We have zero depth. We have some great players and then nothing behind them. We need new owners too.

Yeah, I don't expect Liverpool to make the top 4. This season everything seems to be going wrong in the worst way. The balloon, conceding two injury time goals in two sperate games against Lyon to drop 4 points in the CL. Nothing really seems to be working. Its a hard luck season and just needs to be ridden out at this point. The bad part is that there doesn't seem much to be optimistic about. None of the young players really strike me as far as being able to make an impact, which depresses me.

Kendall is back :goodposting:I don't think there's any way Liverpool gets relegated. They might not be playing well, but they're 5 points out of a CL spot and still earning an average of 1.5 points/game. If 40 points is the magical relegation safety number, as they always say...Liverpool are on pace for 59 points this season

I was joking about relagation. Anyone see that goal by Messi just now? Sweet.

In other news, US lines up a new friendly for Jan... vs Honduras. :blackdot:

I guess any game is better than none- and it's not an official international break, so only MLS and Scandinavian teams on their breaks will send players. Just not sure what BB is hoping to see playing against a team for the 5th time in a year... and a team the US has beaten 4 times already.

In other other news- I've tried to follow that Yao kid... the one who signed with Ipswich after bouncing around as a teen. He's not showing up on the Ipswich website or seeming to get dressed with the regulars. Anybody know anything more since the last update?

I must have missed it, who did Liverpool draw?
Unirea....in the Europa League. And Rafa's already making excuses.
"For me it is too early [to talk about it] because we know we will play in February so we have plenty of time to prepare and learn about the other team,'' said the Spaniard."It will be tough. Unirea won the league in their country and were in a tough group with Sevilla and Stuttgart - I have some friends in Sevilla so maybe I'll be in touch with them."But it is important to have an option to win any trophy. The Europa League is different to the Champions League but there are some good teams in it. We have to progress if we can and then it is an opportunity to win a trophy and we will try to do it.''Liverpool, as an unseeded team after their poor Champions League display, will play the first leg at home on February 18 before travelling to Romania the following week."We would prefer to play the second game at home but we have to be ready.
