Interesting game tonight... Inter at Lazio, with the Lazio fans actually cheering on Inter so that their (Lazio's) arch-rivals Roma don't get control of the Scudetto. Huge cheer at the end of the game as Inter take it 2-0 (and could've been a lot more without some heroics from the Lazio keeper).

Player I'd never noticed before named Zarate really impressed me- silky, silky smooth with the ball with some incredible moves. A little too much with the moves probably, but was able to carve through 1 and 2 Inter defenders with relative ease. :notebooked:

Didnt see the game but saw that Inter won. Another league that will go down to the final game of the season. Inter holding a narrow lead with two matches left.

This Wednesday looks to be one of the matches of the season in England. Man. City and Tottenham play with the winner gaining control of their destiny to play in the Champions League next season. Currently Spurs are on 67 and City are on 66 with two games each to play. The match will be in Manchester.
Hopefully the Spurs watch what they eat Tuesday.

Drew 2-2 in the first match of our regular season today. I played 88 minutes in the center midfield, our other CMs weren't at the game so the 2 of us played 85+. We went up 1-0, but gave up a momentum killer in first half stoppage time. Second half, they took the lead in roughly the 75th, but we were awarded a penalty in stoppage time (legit PK, tackle from behind in the box, really a stupid decision to tackle there). The PK taker took a chance, hoping that the keeper would dive, and he played it right down the middle - keeper didn't move, and saved it....right back to the PK taker, who put in the rebound for the 2-2 draw.

Someone besides Edson Buddle finally scores for the Galaxy...but he gets a brace of his own (and assisted on the other) as the Galaxy handle Philly, 3-1. That's 9 goals so far for Buddle.
whoopdedoo. i think steve tasker, el floppo and a coupe others on this board would probably score in a game against the union. the defense is pathetic. at least seitz looked like a decent goalie last night, though there were still some questionable goals and decisions by him.as for buddle ... he was clearly offsides on goal 3; goal 2 everyone stood around and let him do whatever he wanted. his assist on the first goal rolled across the box so slowly i thought it might stop. i can't believe seitz blew that one. he looked at it and watched it. he should have come out to pick it up.
Saw the highlights of the game. Didn't see/agree-with any of things bweiser pointed out. ... although I wasn't really watching for the offsides on the third goal.

We had our match yesterday against another big company in our industry that's located in the same city. After 45 minutes, it was a 0-0 match. Both teams were just going up and down the field for the first half without having any decent chances. With about 10 minutes gone in the first half, one of our defenders  challenged a little too aggressively for a ball that was fed into the top of the box, the player flopped and they were awarded a PK. Goalie didn't have a chance so they went up 0-1. Said defender wasn't real happy with himself and was damned if he was going to lose the game as a result of that (not to mention the endless ribbing that would take place for months to come). About 10 minutes later, I (yes, it was me :bag: ) pushed up on a corner kick since I'm one of the taller players on the team. The kick flew over the box (I was near side), was headed back in by one of our MF's, it hit the goalie but he wasn't able to control it and it popped right out to me at the 6 yard box. I left footed it towards the goal and the defender that was standing at the goal line decided it would be a good idea to lift his arm and block the goal. I didn't take the PK, but we made it to tie the game at 1-1. Redemption! Whew.......As the clock was winding down, you could tell that neither team wanted to end the game with a draw, especially with both goals scored by PK. The tackles were getting harder, the words were being thrown back and forth a little more often, it was a tough back and forth last few minutes. With about three minutes left to play, our center mid was able to get around two of their defenders, caught the goalie out a little to far, did a quick juke and tapped it into the corner of the net. The crowd of about 200 went NUTS! It was awesome! The last couple of minutes seemed like an hour as the ref added 4 minutes of stoppage time. We bunkered in and they weren't able to penetrate our defense as we kept clearing the ball until the final whistle. It was a great match and they are already looking for a rematch. We took a picture that is going to be submitted to the industry trade magazine with a short article so chances are a couple of other local competitors are going to call looking for a match. It was lots of fun although it was pretty hot and humid (as Miami tends to be this time of year). Luckily we had 8-10 subs that were able to come in and out pretty regularly so we didn't wear down. We did lose a little bit of momentum with the line changes but we were able to hold it together and take the win. Lot's of fun and I can't wait until the next match.

pretty sure Castillo isnt eligible for Mexico anymore. He officially made the switch.

Serves Rossi right. disgrace to New Jersey that one is.

This is Nery who is with a Ukrainian club not edgar. He hasn't played this year so I'm not sure how much of a surprise it really is. Rossi I assume is a little bit of a bigger surprise though the more Italian slanted articles bring up Cassano before him so he may be even further down the line than he'd like. He really needs to be playing in Italy.

I read it as Edgar as well... but Nery- wow. That guy looked to be a world beater just a couple of years ago. Has he been injured? Or did he just not fit in over there in the Ukraine?

But he was only born there. And just lived there for 13 years. Like a tourist, he was.
my buddy was the goalie for his travel team growing up. A guy i used to work with (first generation italian american) was the coach. The kid is an american. He's playing for Italy because they're better. Simple as that.

I know I am in the minority but I would rather keep it in here. Any non trolls that may want to talk about the World Cup will know to come in here. A world cup thread, like in 2006, just quickly dissolves into soccer bashers having a field day and trying to bait people into long arguments about why the sport sucks.

Fit in might be one way of describing it. In a Mathian display of hubris in the 2nd or 3rd game (back in 2007) he was there he won a pk and then wouldn't let the designated pk-taker take it. He took it, got subbed off immediately, and has never played again. Paid his way to Man City for a year and got loaned out again this year, but hasn't played for that team either. He's their Adu.

Was nice to see Rooney out there again this weekend. Didn't seem to be hobbling around either, like in his last match.

COME ON YOU WIGAN. Show up at least, and don't pull a Stoke City on us. Oh, and beautiful back pass, Stevey G. dope.

Berbatov is such a trainwreck. Any chance they move him this summer? I gotta think they'll at least try. I know they're bringing that Mexican kid in, but i dont know how ready he'll be to contribute (I've never seen him play). I actually think he's trying out there, but i dont think he has the make up to play there.

Not sure anyone will take him. I think this summer's going to be tough, especially with the ownership issue. I'm really not sure you can just give up on Berbatov though, if Rooney was out for any period of time again, you can't really start anyone else. Machedo is too young and raw, Owen is always hurt. In my eyes, Valencia has been just as big a disappointment of Berbatov - hell, he can't even crack the starting 11 any more. Not sure how United is going to handle their midfield really, they have Anderson with permanent residence in SAF's doghouse, Hargreaves, injured, underperforming - Giggs, really much more of a complimentary player than an everyday 90 minute guy, Scholes, best suited for defensive minded big games, Nani, great one game, crap the next 2, Valencia, wtf. The only guys you can really count on week in and week out are Carrick and Fletcher, and both are limited offensively.

I still wonder with Buddle- can he and Jozy combine well?
I really hope so, it would be great if he could step in and kind of come from nowhere...I still think we put Dempsey up there as of now.I really thought Gooch would be back at 100% but Bradley doesn't sound as confident...it would really suck not to have him as an option against some of the more physical teams...against some of the smaller, quicker teams I don't think we'd miss him. Not sure what kind of attack Slovenia and Algeria have, I need to read up on them some more, although I could probably guess just based on where they are geographically.

agreed. While Valencia hasnt been great, I'm not sure not being able to crack the current 11 is a huge indictment against him. Ferguson obviously loves Giggs and trusts him in big spots. When you add in the fact that nani has been on fire lately, its not a big deal.I think he's sort of wasted in their current scheme. The rely so heavily on Rooney (and rightfully so) that quick attacks up the wings are mostly an after thought. If you put Valencia out there with Rooney, i think Rooney would find him. I think he'd pass to anyone else to avoid wasting more great service on a choker lke Berbatov.

This may be a mistake as he seems to be in the best form of his other choices, but he does have a good crop to choose from.
Pretty sure the strikers are set with Podolski, Klose and Super Mario
I think you are correct. The team that played against Argentina has the following forwards listed:Cacua (12 BL goals this season), Gomez (10), Kießsling (21), Klose (3) and Podolski (2)Kuranyi currently has 18 goals which is why I hope Löw is making the right decision.

lol.fwiw, I was rehashing an argument Christo and I had about how "American" Rossi was and was being facetious here. I made the point that he was born and raised here, so by all my reckoning is a yank. Christo made one of his contrarian arguments. I took the bait.

fwiw- I still think Berbatov is a hell of a player that most teams would love to have. Problem at this point is going to be his price-tag which, even at a discount, is going to be too high for almost every club but the big ones. I could actually see him playing for either of the Milan clubs and doing well... although I don't think teh special one would want him (not a hard enough worker).

From wikipedia:"The weightings are determined by the league's ranking on the UEFA coefficients, which in turn depend on the results of each league's clubs in European competition over the previous five seasons. Goals scored in the top five leagues according to the UEFA coefficients list are multiplied by a factor of two, and goals scored in the leagues ranked six to 21 are multiplied by 1.5.[5] Thus goals scored in Serie A, the top Italian football league, will count for more than those scored in the weaker Welsh Premier League, its Welsh equivalent.[3]"Pretty lame, but there's probably no good way to do it. I can see why it would suck if Shlomi Arbeitman in the Israeli league got one more goal than Messi and won the award. Would almost be like awarding the batting title to the best batting average across major and all the minor leagues.
