Who ended up winning the Anderlecht - Partizan Belgrade match? I see it went to penalties. Is Sacha K going from Chivas USA to Champs League?

ETA - nevermind, I see Partizan won on PKs. Sacha, it was a good run

Bremen through 5-4 on aggregate. Quite an exciting game that meant about 20mil euro to both sides. Big result for the Bundesliga as well. I remember someone talking about how close their coefficient was last season to gaining a spot so this obviously helps a lot.
 A very good thing for the Bundesliga.

Combined with Sevilla losing to Sporting Braga, that may mean that the Bundesliga could steal a CL spot from La Liga.

Hmmmm....if wiki is to be believed, it looks like Bundesliga likely already has gained a spot (due to 05-06 falling off I guess) at the expense of Serie A. But that change doesn't happen til the 12-13 champions league season (meaning it will affect next season's league table). I guess it's possible Serie A could make up the 5 point differential but neither league has had a 5 point diff on the other in any season in that chart. La Liga could potentially have to sweat a bit next season when their excellent 06-07 results fall out of the equation but no chance they lose a spot this year.

I do kinda feel for the longtime City fans though. Not sure if we have any here. Finally you get ridiculous ownership and your team is one of the world's elite, and the fans who couldn't care less in prior years are all of a sudden diehards (assumption on my part). I remember watching an occasional City game here or there a few years ago, and they could barely fill maybe 60% of the stadium.....and now they're jam-packed.Hell, I remember running a few FIFA manager seasons with City....the team's stars were Andy Cole and Darius Vassell....and this was like 5 years ago! What a difference a change in ownership makes.
I know Derek is a life long/suffering Man City fan.Andy Cole was a star @ City  dude played about 20 games there.
I think he meant from a video game perspective
Correct. And I love me some Derek, but <_< at lifelong diehard fan.

3-nil?

I am extending my stay in London next week. Can anyone recommend a decent ticket broker for EPL games?
Your best bet would be to contact the ticket offices of the clubs directly to see if they have any seats still on general sale. Failing that you can always scalp some near the ground, it's usually not too difficult and as long as you don't make it super obvious the police don't really care. You'd probably pay around a 20% premium on face value though, depending on the match.Just checked and Tottenham (vs Wigan) and Chelsea (vs Stoke) are the only two London clubs playing at home this weekend in the Premier League. Chelsea certainly won't be sold out yet as they rarely fill Stamford Bridge for the smaller games, Spurs probably have some tickets left too but probably not as many. I suggest looking up the phone number for the box office on their website(s) and calling them.

Nevermind Chelsea have sold out already.

Good news for Chelsea, bad news for everyone else

finally
;) That said, with 12 goals in two games, I wouldnt change anything at the moment. Who do you sit him for?
I don't think he slots into the first XI right away, but he will be very valuable as the season wears on, particularly if/when we get the annual Essien / Mikel injuries. They lost Cole, Ballack and Deco in the midfield and brought in Benayoun and now Ramires. I saw Ramires play a bit in the world cup and I understand he can score, pass and defend well, so I am sure he'll play a big role for the Blue this season. My expectation, based purely on a gut feeling, is that Ancelotti and Abramovich are going all-in for the Champions League this season, and if that is the case then guys like Ramires will be very valuable.

Hat trick for Crouchy.

And this Bale kid ain't so bad - three assists, almost his own goal, and got brought down for the pk. He's all over the place today, him and Lennon really dominating the wings

Actually, El Floppo, can't really agree with that. He hasn't been playing all that much for Spurs, only 18 league appearance last year, mostly due to injury. Further, he wasn't really given the freedom earlier last year to get into the attack, as he was having all sorts of issues on defense.

However, of late, yes, he has really grown into his own. He's really not much a defender, but has been given tons of freedom to join into the midfield and the attack.

Pots for the Champions League group stage draw:

POT 1: Barcelona, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Inter, Milan, Lyon

POT 2: Werder Bremen, Real Madrid, Roma, Shakhtar Donetsk, Benfica, Valencia, Marseille, Panathinaikos

POT 3: Tottenham Hotspur, Rangers, Ajax, Schalke 04, Basel, Braga, Copenhagen, Spartak Moscow

POT 4: Hapoel Tel Aviv, Twente, Rubin Kazan, Auxerre, Cluj, Partizan Belgrade, Zilina, Bursaspor

Spurs just missed getting into the 2nd pot and will likely be in a tough group.

Obviously the group with Real Madrid coming out of the 2nd pot will be brutal.

:rolleyes:every time I've seen him play in the last year, he's ripped it up. didn't know abuot the injury and missed games though. I think I caught his very first epl game a few years back, and he showed a ton of promise even then.

I don't know how many Tottenham matches you watched last season, but he was Spurs' best player alongside Modric from January last year. When Assou-Ekotto left for the African Nations' Bale got back in the side at left-back and impressed so much that when BAE came back he was shifted forward into midfield and continued putting in quality performances.

Bremen scores 3 minutes into stoppage time to make it 3-1 and send this tie into extra time. They were so unenergetic that I figured this was over. But now all the momentum is with the road side. I love me some champions league
This was a very exciting game. So I glad I hung in until the end.

Gotta agree on Bale. He was overrated for a time but has really transitioned into one of Spurs' stars.
The guy just turned 21. When could he have been overrated?
There was a ton of fanfare surrounding his move from Southampton....he was the next big thing. He kinda struggled to make an impact for his first two years or so in the EPL after a strong season in the Championship. I remember him looking very out of place for awhile despite all the hype.

Don't know about "out of place", but I remember him disappearing at stretches from games when he first came up. But he'd also flash the speed, skills, vision and killer instinct too. Seems like toward the end of last season he was an absolute game-changer every time out (when he was healthy I guess). He looks like he's bulked up a bit this year- kinda reminds me of some the things C Ronaldo brought to the EPL- forcing teams to always be aware, putting multiple players on his side to contain him; every time he touches the ball, the entire viewing audience holds its breath in anticipation of what's going to happen next. He's a big, fast, strong (now), very skillful player who's just starting to realize the potential he's flashed all along. Honestly- no hyperbole here- I haven't seen a more dominant English player in a while. Even Gerard's fantastic season (last year... two years ago?) was more about getting his team involved and not about one guy just beating a team on his own. Oh yeah... that Rooney cat has done alright too (the one in England, not the one in Portland, OR).

Just watched Real Salt Lake v. Cruz Azul play in a swimming pool

Awesome seeing some passes come to a complete stop 5 feet from the passer's foot :excited:

it was 3-1 in the 75th minute....finished up 5-4

There's talk of Nacho going to Everton for Pienaar. Even after tonight (and the Blues 5-1 win over Huddersfield in the Carling Cup, Osman and Rodwell scored :excited: ), I don't want that to happen.

Everton is off to another crap start but at least they are above Liverpool in the table!

Gareth Bale is Welsh GB.

two really tough losses for MLS teams this week in the CCL. Columbus lost a strange one last night when a goal was called back due to a Columbus player coming back on to the field with out permission after an injury and then the Crew gave up a 93 minute winner to Santos.

I'm confused. So that means he's not english? (for the record, I play with a bunch of irish who are very, very particular about what country all those brits are from. There's nothing better than to ask questions like why Robbie Keane has never gotten a run with the English National team haha -- and yes, I'm very aware that Irish are not Brits but go ahead and pretend they are....good times)

for the purposes of soccer, no.The different areas that make up Great Britain are independent as far as soccer goes.EnglandWalesN. IrelandSo they all play under their own separate flags in world cup qualifying. (Hence the reason that someone like Ryan Giggs never played on team England).
