Ronaldo officially retired today.

From what I have been able to witness in my lifetime he was the best pure striker I ever saw.

Breathtaking
The dude straight up finished. It's pretty amazing the range of finishes in the video: passed into the net, dribbled into the net, blasted into the net, diving header, outjumping an opponent, outmuscling an opponent, clowning a goalie, etc. etc.He had a beautiful right foot, just made to finish.

Andy mentioned starting a new thread for general discussion, so here it is. And here's a juicy bit of news to get it started.

Steven Goff is reporting on his blog that the Zidane to Chicago talks are heating back up. He's saying a decision could come down on Monday. This would INSTANTLY make the Fire a cup contender, as much as I hate to admit that.

He also had ridiculous acceleration. Like pushing the Turbo button on a video game. Physically, before he got fat, he was the perfect striker. Strong as an ox and lightining quick over short distances.

LOL as a Hull fan I know how to stay up at least one time again the odds :bs: Of course if we can catch him, getting Sebowski relegated would be kinda like Liverpool getting sent down

-QG (no I don't feel a post war coming on here - no need to lay a pile in this fun thread)

Oh, Dempsey.
I was coming to post the same thing. Excellent chance to boost his career there. He still outplayed the $70mm Torres though. There will be other chances. He's playing pretty well right now.
It would have been nice. But I don't think he needs a boost to his career. He worked his butt off during the game and individually manufactured that opportunity. During the game they showed a graphic that he's currently third behind McBride for Fulham's all-time scorer in the EPL. And that goal against Juventus last year cemented his place in Fulham lore.

NEW YORK -- U.S. soccer coach Bob Bradley made $818,000 in the year ending lasting March 31 and women's coach Pia Sundhage earned $219,000, according to the U.S. Soccer Federation's annual tax return.

Bradley had $449,025 in base compensation, $345,000 in bonuses, $6,600 in deferred compensation and $17,619 in nontaxable benefits for a total of $818,244.

Sundhage made $207,667 in base compensation, $5,100 in deferred compensation and $6,868 in nontaxable benefits for a total of $219,635.

While the period included the U.S. men qualifying for last year's World Cup, there were no major women's competitions during the fiscal year.

A copy of the tax return was released Monday to The Associated Press.

Bradley's monthly salary of $41,667 last year was up from $37,500 in 2009 and $33,333 in 2008, according to an annual financial statement posted on the USSF Web site. He also received a $100,000 marketing guarantee in each year of the four-year deal.

He did not earn any bonuses in 2009.

After the U.S. advanced to the second round of the World Cup, the USSF held talks with Juergen Klinsmann, but they broke off. Bradley's contract then was renewed last Sept. 1 for an additional four years. Details on the new deal were not included.

NEW YORK – Major League Soccer announced Monday that it has signed a six-year multimedia rights agreement with TSN, Canada’s most-watched specialty network, and that the TSN family of networks will broadcast 24 regular season games live in 2011, all involving at least one of the two Canadian-based MLS clubs.

This season Toronto FC and the Vancouver Whitecaps will respectively feature 13 and 12 times each on TSN/TSN2, including the first two all-Canadian matches in MLS history on March 19 and June 29.

“This announcement comes at an opportune time for MLS as we enter a period of growth in Canada with the Vancouver Whitecaps joining the league this season and the Montreal Impact in 2012," MLS commissioner Don Garber said. "We look forward to building the sport together and creating an exciting multimedia platform for soccer fans throughout the country.”

TSN will also broadcast Toronto FC’s home opener at BMO Field against the Portland Timbers on March 26 (2 pm ET), as well as the Canadian rivals’ second go-round in Toronto on June 29 (7:30 pm ET) and the 2011 AT&T MLS All Star Game from Red Bull Arena on July 27 (8:30 pm ET).

Additionally, TSN will add select additional games between two U.S.-based teams to its lineup of MLS coverage beginning this season through 2016. French-language broadcasting rights in Canada belong to TSN’s sister networks RDS and RDS2 as part of the deal in anticipation of next year, when the Impact join MLS.

All MLS games on TSN and TSN2 will be broadcast in High Definition.

The agreement allows TSN to provide extensive and exclusive live coverage of its package of MLS games across a variety of multimedia platforms in Canada. Games on TSN/TSN2 will be available live to fans in the United States via the MLS Direct Kick Package and/or Match Day Live on MLSsoccer.com.

“As we have seen with the success of Toronto FC and MLS’s expansion to Vancouver and Montreal, there is an incredible appetite for professional soccer in Canada,” said Stewart Johnston, President of TSN. “This is a long term partnership with MLS and we are looking forward to working with them not only give fans ‘best in class’ game coverage but also to help build the profile of the league and grow the game of soccer across the country.”

Beginning next year, TSN and TSN2 will combine to broadcast 30 regular season MLS games live across Canada.

That's less than 10% of what Fabio Capello makes

For those of you that play the EPL FF game there is a Champion's League version as well. It works much the same way with caveats for the more tournament orientated system.

http://en.uclfantasy.uefa.com/

Maybe next year we can start a league, but in the meantime anyone that wants to jump in for the next round can. I found it's a great way to learn about the teams in leagues that I don't follow as much.

sounds about right when you consider the club track record of each coach.

That the US won the group that England was in during the biggest competition in the sport? tongue in cheek

#### me....2500+ posts.

Germany Jones.
AFC Wimbledon is still top of the Conference but second place Crawley Town has five (FIVE!) games in hand. I hope Crawley beats MUFC this weekend so they end up with a ton of fixtures in March and April.260
;) Could happen though, this is about the time of year where SAF plays some second team guys to rest stars and gets stung. Could be a major chance for Crawley!

Crouch is giving AC Milan all kinds of problems. Spurs are doing everything through Crouch and AC Milan doesn't have anyone that can beat him in the air.

Abbiata goes out with a concussion. Tough break for Milan.

There were a lot of questions about Palacios and Sandro starting in the center, but so far they have really buffered Tottenham's defense from having to withstand much pressure.

Regardless of the outcome Redknapp has to get a ton of credit for putting out a team and a strategy that has completely thrown AC Milan off their game. Up to this point they have looked totally unprepared.

That was an easy red card. Two-footed lunge, off his feet, into the ankles. AC Milan have to consider themselves luck to still have 11 on the field.

It's really too bad Tottenham don't have Bale. A lot of AC Milan's attack is coming through Abate on the right and he simply couldn't do that with Bale.
