The size of this upset (Japan winning the whole thing and beating Germany and the U.S. to do it) is pretty much the equivalent of someone like, say, the U.S. Men winning the World Cup. They never quit and based on all the chances the U.S. failed to convert, Japan certainly deserved the win.
