Assuming everyone healthy, I'd love to see the following next time out....HowardDolo, Boca, Ream, Lichaj (Would say chandler, but i don't think he can play left)Dempsey, Bradley, HoldenLandon (behind the strikers)Shea, Agudelo
That might be the most offensive lineup we can put out at this point. However, Holden won't be ready for either game. He is not coming back until end of September I think. Shea has played a bit of striker in MLS but mostly has been a left sided midfielder. Would be quite a strong pairing though.

really want chandler in there, certainly he's better than Lichaj. I haven't given up on Altidore and I would like to see Adu or Edu get some time...both of those guys could be big contributors in qualifying.

Wht happened to Chandler for the game?
Was first stated he was out due to a ankle injury. Then after he played 90 minutes this weekend, uS soccer put out a release stating JK agreed with his team that he could skip the call up. Trying not to get nervous but if he finds a way to skip the Belgium game I will be bummed.

Also, I love that Klinsman saw what I saw in Buddle and gave him the start...guy is a warrior with good skill, not great, but definitely solid. I have no idea what Bradley's deal was with him in the WC...just maddening. What was with no Altidore?
I think the best thing Jozy can do this year is solidify his place for AZ. He needs top level game action.

sorry man. Just don't see it. He scored a bunch of goals in MLS with Landon feeding him. He just isn't that good. He's basically a black Connor Casey with better service and no beer gut.

certainly haven't given up on Jozy either. But with the way they played tonight, Shea and Agudelo deserve to play next time out.

Thanks Andy. And tanks fer nuttin, epheus.Yeah- at this point, any Chandler absence makes me nervous. Lichaj looked good on the left- better than Castillo, who I found pretty disappointing. With Chandler on the right, that's a nice pairing for the future. No chandler leaves a big gap at this point.

If Holden isn't ready, I guess I slide Shea out to the left and try Jozy up front with Agudelo. I know that Shea is mostly playing left wing, But he certainly looked good up front tonight. Really impressed me. I don't see much MLS, so my only impression of him has been his one previous call up and the U-20

Tip: click inside this box to load the editorand I mean thaat lichaj looked good last time out vs mexico, before his move tothe right where he looked pretty dreadful

You think so? I am more concerned about Chandler two years from now than today. Cherundolo is not young by any means but he still looks solid to me on the right. But the longer we go without Chandler the more I fear losing him when we will most need him to replace Cher

Dallas is a fun side to watch. They start group play in CONCACAF Champions League next week, you could watch him there if you have some time.

Thay was exactlu my thought- at this point for the future. As in- right now, I don't know who Dolo's replacent is, if not Chandler ((albeit, based on a couple of games seen)m. I'm drunk and on a ####### blackberry.

Good match, USA was the better team today. I don't think Landon's tackle in the box deserved a PK, but sh##, what a clear red to call. What could the ref have been thinking?

Gotta score on that header off the corner, that to me is the second (and winning) goal for the US

There are so many conspiracy theories involving Chandler that will continue until he irrevocably commits to one country or another. Appearing or not appearing in US friendlies have no impact on this. But the fact remains, he has been capped by the US and not Germany and he probably isn't good enough to displace Lahm, Badstuber, etc. as first choice fullbacks for the Hun. Chandler was born in Germany, grew up in Germany, lives in Germany and plays in Germany. If something happens for him to get a real call-up for Germany, I'll wish him the best of luck. If he plays the next decade for us, that's a nice bonus.

I noticed one really bad play by Shea but I didn't DVR the game so I'm hoping if someone can confirm this.

Agudelo had the ball going at goal. I think it was his long run. Shea decides to make a run directly in front of the ball bringing his defender with. Why not clear out. An overlap may have even been better then a run directly in front

But I could be remembering wrong

I do remember something like this happening where they got bunched. Agudelo cut I think in a way that Shea did not predict. You also have to remember this may have been the very first time they have ever played together so communication issues and learning playing tendency are to be expected in a small amount.

About effing time!!
Sooooo......the obvious answer to my question earlier about whether you care to read anything anyone else posts is clearly 'no.'
We only had about a 100 posts on this topic already :) . Can't expect him to have seen so few. Lol. Lhucks, seriously, do you read at all before you post?
I scanned three pages...missed it by one page. Sue me. Jesus.

Not good for the people who hate Beckerman.

I think that makes sense.Klinsmann needs to see firsthand the cards he's been dealt. That being said, with EPL ramping up I'd be surprised if Dempsey plays in both. Chandler on the other hand needs to get with the effing program.Anybody else surprised by Holden's criticism after the first half? Ballsy to criticize the new coach.

I missed it. Where was Holden interviewed and what did he say? For some reason I thought Holden was in England.

You may be confusing Taylor Twellman and Holden. Their is some resemblence. Twellman did have some strong comments but that is his job and let's face it, the US looked half dead in first half.

yeah, my buddy texted me that he was surpsised by "holden's" comments while I was catching up on the DVR...I haven't gone back to see the halftime comments yet.

What was with no Altidore?
:loco: Don't know where to start with this. I'll go with:

How many full Edson Buddle game films have you studied exactly? We get it. For whatever reason, you thought he should have played more. A lot of people agree with you. Some don't. Whatever. You're not on an island either way.

"Klinsmann saw what I saw"? Really? Whenever it seems like people just give you hard time you post #### like that. You probably would have broke your hand patting yourself on the back if he started Adu. Instead, he didn't even dress. Guess Klinsmann hasn't seen the same potential in him you have through your hours of film study. I pray that one day the head of the USMT has your kind of eye for talent. Until then we'll just have to hope your voice is heard.

I was pretty much on an island with Adu and Buddle...luckily we have this thread to prove it. Was happy to see Buddle get a chance. If you interpreted that as arrogant...okay.

Here are the ESPN grades. I agree with most of them accept Landon's which looks a little low. Poor Bornstein, Castillo was the lowest rated player along with Buddle and was still called an upgrade

==============

Grades: (1-10; 10 = best)

GK Tim Howard, 6: Games against Mexico are seldom so uneventful for U.S. keepers. Howard had little to do and was blameless on Mexico's goal.

D Steve Cherundolo, 6: Cherundolo was predictably solid and steady.

D Michael Orozco Fiscal, 5.5: Orozco was a tad shaky early and sometimes dodgy on the ball. But he did what he had to do, especially given that he's fairly new to the team.

D Carlos Bocanegra, 7.5: The captain is still completely irreplaceable in the middle of the U.S. defense. He had another strong game and was caught out just once by Rafa Marquez.

D Edgar Castillo, 4.5: Castillo was sometimes useful on offense but a liability in the back. He isn't sharp yet and sent some bad passes. Still, he's an upgrade over Jonathan Bornstein.

M Kyle Beckerman, 5.5: Playing just behind Bradley, Beckerman had one of his better games for the U.S. But is he suited long term for this level? Probably not.

M Jermaine Jones, 5: Playing in a holding role behind Michael Bradley, Jones was at times useful but not as often as he was invisible. For large swaths of his 60 minutes on the field he was nowhere to be found in spite of very much being in the center of the field -- a worrying reoccurrence in his short tenure with the U.S.

M Michael Bradley, 6.5: Another ambiguous night for the no-longer-coach's son. He played well as a central attacking midfielder, distributing well with square balls and still getting back to do plenty of defensive work. His return to the position he played at Heerenveen earlier in his career was a success. The Mexico goal in the 17th minute in which he let Oribe Peralta swivel around him and dink in the 1-0 was not.

M Jose Torres, 5: Torres is no winger, we learned that much. He dropped too deep and drifted too central. What's more, he was delinquent defensively, even if he was solid on the ball.

F Landon Donovan, 5.5: The U.S.'s somewhat mercurial stalwart underdelivered today. He sent in the odd dangerous cross from the wing, but didn't have enough impact.

F Edson Buddle, 4.5: With almost none to absolutely no service coming his way, and with little support out of the midfield or from the wings, Buddle had a chance to brush up on his Spanish, surrounded as he was by green jerseys.

Subs:

F Juan Agudelo, 7: The much-hyped youngster was instantly dangerous after coming on and did good preparatory work on the American equalizer.

M Brek Shea, 7.5: At last Shea translated his club form with FC Dallas to the national team, after two ineffectual caps. The giant winger was mobile, physical and active, and set up Rogers' equalizer beautifully.

F Robbie Rogers, 6.5: The usually underachieving winger scored the equalizer and went on dangerous runs, one of which saw him through on goal alone before being brought down (when inexplicably only a yellow card was drawn). He fluffed a shot or two as well though.

Interesting stat.

The U20 World Cup occurs every two years.

England has not won a game since 1999.

This year England went out with no wins and no goals scored in 4 games (they only allowed one which knocked them out in the second round)

Looks like the first two rounds of La Liga games are going to be canceled due to some Spanish player strike.

Tottenham/Everton canceled due to the riots. That was ESPN's game, will they replace is with another game or just run something else?

:goodposting: Chandler is no Rossi. I can't be upset if the kid plays for Germany. I don't know enough about their future RB situation to judge if he's good enough, but if he gets the call and takes it, I wish him well. If anything, Chandler is kinda the anti-Rossi. His only link to the US is the fact that his father was from here. That was the only thing Rossi DIDN'T have with the US. Seriously, #### Rossi....still
