Speaking of unfathomable seedings, the latest FIFA rankings are up.

Biggest riser is Seychelles up 24 to 175

Biggest faller is the Central African Republic down 15 to 104
Seychelles took advantage of home field advantage to win the Indian Ocean Games this month. They beat Mauritius on penalty kicks.Central African Republic dropped due to an away friendly loss vs Malta. They still control their own destiny in Group D of the African Cup of Nations. They're tied with Morocco at the top of the table with two games to play.

Holland passes Spain for the top spot.

England up to #4

Brazil down two to #6 behind Uruguay

Mexico holds at #20

US up two to #28 passing Switzerland and Serbia

San Marino, Montserrat, American Samoa and Andorra tied for last (203rd)

Looks like the US may lose another native born player.

Joe Corona was born in California and played soccer all the way up to San Diego State. Then he went to play in Mexico.

Bradley was going to call him up but then Bradley was fired.

ESPN (Jorge Ramos) is reporting that Corona has accepted a call up to a Mexican youth team. This is after he has already talked to Klinsmann and Klinsmann was suppose to send down a scout.

Obviously won't cap tie him yet but not a good indication.

Our melting pot is not quite working out how I had hoped 15 years ago :(

#### Corona? What are his chances of cracking the lineup for El Tri? They're pretty loaded, no?

Senior side is loaded. U20's just came in 3rd U17's won the WCLots and lots of talent up and down their program. Could even be a small preempted move to keep him away from US? Who knows.

Gave up on waiting for a replay (especially with the TFC game on delay), so I watched the highlights. How did the young guys look?
It was the best of the three games I have seen Arsenal play. They attacked from the first minute. They are obviously not going to win either champions league or EPL, but if they spend some of that enormous amount if cash they have this winter, they may finish higher than most are willing to predict now.

TFC/FC Dallas goes to lightning delay.
They eventually told everyone to leave the stadium and eventually cancelled the game after that. Game will restart tomorrow morning at 10:15am eastern and be played at the full 90 minutes.

As I mentioned earlier, I think Arsenal's first XI is largely fine. Particularly once Wilshere gets healthy. I think Gervinho will be a great fit and that Cesc's playmaking role will be mostly handled by RVP in the false nine role. But the Man U game is going to really highlight the lack of depth. I don't see how Arshavin can replace Gervinho and be nearly as effective. And Jenkinson is going to get eaten alive by Young and Nani.

Great news: the Spanish league players strike is over. Games this weekend!

Have not seen any confirmation on this yet from another source.

I believe Arsenal pretty much showed you what you're going to get all year. They are a dangerous club, make no mistake about it. But, they are going to allow a ton of chances also. Udinese is really nothing more than a mid table Serie A side this year, probably finish about 6th-7th, and they had a ton of chances against Arsenal. I'm not a real high on Theo Walcott, to me he seems like a one-trick pony, he can run really ####### fast. But if he does not have a ton of space to set up his shot, he just doesn't have the composure, talent of yet to be great. Him not finishing in the first half with basically a shot point blank, yet getting the late breakaway goal, well that's about his story wrapped up in one game.

It was a very nice win for Arsenal no doubt, it would have been a crushing blow to been knocked out so early, no matter what spin you put on it. Yes, this is not a very deep side, but there is plenty of talent still.

La Liga situation seems to be all squared away now which is nice. Not a huge fan of the league, but I like additional soccer matches all the same.

Meireles out a bit for Liverpool, I think they'll be okay.

Malouda may move to Juve?

Joey Barton saga wages on. He's available on a free transfer....may move to QPR. I've read earlier reports linking him with West Ham, and that would be fantastic, imho.

Also on ESPN Soccernet.
Sweet. Seeing it every where now
La Liga set to start after strike resolutionMADRID - The Spanish football league (LFP) and the players' union (AFE) have agreed a deal over unpaid wages that will allow the La Liga season to begin this weekend, the league president said on Thursday.Last weekend's first round of matches in the top two divisions was postponed as the two sides haggled over the value of a fund to cover unpaid player salaries at clubs who are struggling financially or have gone into administration."The strike has been called off by the players' union. It was an effort from both sides, both sides gave ground and I am very pleased that at last the ball will be in play," league president Jose Luis Astiazaran told a news conference.

:goodposting: all around, particularly about Walcott. In some ways, he hurts the team by being such a specific type of player and disappearing for long stretches when opposing teams don't give him the space to run. IMO, Arsenal needs another guy who can flow with the team and move around the field, not just up and down a flank. That said- I have seen some improvement in his overall play (primarily his passing)- and hopefully he'll try to push that more in his own education as a pro so he doesn't have to rely on his pace. This is going to be the weakest, least appealing Arsenal team possibly this decade... but it will still be a good, entertaining team to watch- and that's all credit to Wenger (can't believe people are crying for his head) and the quality of players he brings in. I've been pretty distracted by Gerhinho's hair-do up until now and haven't been impressed- with the hair or the play. But he looked great yesterday- even the hair was somehow less freakish. Will definitely look forward to seeing him play this year based on yesterday.Am I the only person here who's unimpressed with RVP? Don't get me wrong- yeah, he's good- but he's not a difference maker, IMO, and more often than not makes the wrong (and selfish) decisions with the ball. The positive flashes he shows almost every game (for as long as I've been watching him) get outdone by him dribbling/shooting when his team-mates have busted their butts to get into good/great positions to help him.But still- I'm a fan of theirs, and always enjoy watching them play.

Nice. I assume this won't include Barcelona due to the Europe Super Cup tomorrow though?

I think Walcott could develop a bit more finishing(and crossing) touch, but as you say, he pretty much is what he is at this point. I'm glad to have him in the squad as I think defenders do have to constantly worry about his pace. He's just not a great finisher and probably never will be.I've actually thought Gervinho has been decent so far. He picked a good spot to have his best game yet, and I enjoy the fact that he and Walcott swap sides freely. My only complaint about Gervinho, and it really doesn't apply to this game, is that he already seems to have caught the Arsenal bug of trying to make the perfect pass instead of taking a good shot at goal.As for Van Persie, I think he is at his best when he has a true striker to work with. Both to take some of the marking away from him as well as give him more freedom to roam side to side. Arsenal just hasn't had a guy like that since Adebayor left.

Also, Forlán to Inter seems to be done. Only 5m€. Sad day for the rojiblanco fans out there. He won't be playing today in the Europa Cup game, so he's not cup-tied and Inter can use him in CL play this year.

Alético looks to sign some youngster named Pizzi from Braga in Portugal in order to bring in another striker.

It's been a crazy offseason for Atlético. Departure of 3 huge names, signing of another big name, and the departure of the manager means the team will be vastly different than the team that played the last two season in Madrid. I can only hope that they can reinoforce their defense and midfield without losing that dynamic flourish they had to score goals and be dangerous. Reyes has impressed so far in Europa play, and I think he and Gabi will be key players for Atlético's success this season.

Here's to hoping for a top 4 finish. I'm not sure if they have the talent they've had in the past, but if they play well, they can snatch a CL berth for next year.

Obviously, Barça or Real will win la liga (again). Valencia was the last (other) team to win the title in the 2003-4 season. That's not going to happen this year.

Looks like the EPSN2 showing of LA @ NY could be in jeopardy due to the hurricane. This game is scheduled for Sunday night when the storm should be in the north east.

Where do you see Villareal finishing this year? Any hopes of a top 4 finish?

Anyone heard anything about this yet?

Man U vs Chelsea has been moved from Feb 4th to Feb 5th, which happens to be Super Bowl Sunday.

Fox is moving the game to the broadcast network and will be showing it live. I believe this might be the first time ever an EPL game will be broadcast on aN OTA network.

Fox will also be showing 3 other EPL games this year, but these will be on tape delay and placed against NFL games when they don't have a double header.

Here is some more info. I have to say this is getting pretty exciting looking forward to 2014 when the World Cup and MLS tv contracts will be up for grabs. We might actually see Disney, COMCAST and Fox all try for them.
FOX Broadcasting Company (NASDAQ:NWS), the national broadcasting network, will televise the first ever Premier League match on free-to-air television in the United States on Sunday, February 5, 2012, according to a source. The clash between Chelsea and Manchester United will be shown live on Super Bowl Sunday beginning at 10:30am ET.In addition to FOX’s historic coverage of a live Premier League match, the national FOX network will air three Premier League matches on tape-delay during the 2011-12 NFL season. The schedule of games are:Sunday, September 18: Manchester United versus Chelsea (tape delay),Sunday, October 2: Tottenham Hotspur versus Arsenal (tape delay),Sunday, November 20: Chelsea versus Liverpool (tape delay). The three tape-delay games will air adjacent to live NFL games. The tape-delayed games will be shown at either 2-4pm or 4:30-6:30pm ET — depending on local NFL/FOX programming. Meanwhile, throughout the Premier League season, FOX Soccer and FOX Soccer Plus will continue to show the majority of games for viewers in the United States, while ESPN2 and FOXSoccer.tv will show many of the other games.FOX Broadcasting Company was contacted regarding the news. A spokesperson declined to comment.

Talks have broken down 48 hours before the start of the Serie A season. Unless a last minute agreement comes, the season looks to be delayed by a strike.

So many Euro teams are in such bad financial shape it is very sad to see this happening. Players not being paid in leagues as big as Serie A and La Liga is not good for the game.

I'm glad they are showing games on FOX but if we can't watch those three games live on FSC or something that will really suck.

It's not all that surprising considering Spain and Italy are teetering on bankruptcy. Teams are trying to compete, but don't have the world-wide fanbase like an Inter, AC, Barca, RM, etc. Now that their local economies are in the crapper they are essentially defunct entities. They would be better off creating a La Super Liga and a Serie AA where the top teams can just compete with each other and let the rest of the teams compete for something else. At least that way teams would stop gambling their existence on promotion/european league qualification.

I understand why the minnows from small leagues are thrown in, but it does seem a shame that some very good large league teams miss out.
