FinalBy JACK BELLOvernight television ratings from two of Sunday’s soccer games broadcast in the United States showed that Fox’s tape-delayed broadcast of the Chelsea-Liverpool match almost doubled the rating of Major League Soccer’s championship match.Fox showed the English Premier League game, won by Liverpool, 2-1, live on its Fox Soccer channel with a kickoff of 11 a.m. Eastern. The match was then shuttled over to the main Fox network, where it was shown on tape delay either before or after one of the N.F.L. games carried Sunday afternoon by Fox.M.L.S. Cup ’11, which featured the three designated players — Robbie Keane, Landon Donovan and David Beckham — of the Los Angeles Galaxy, kicked off against the Houston Dynamo on ESPN at about 9:20 p.m. Eastern. The Galaxy won the game, 1-0.The recorded E.P.L. game drew a 1.5 rating, according to Nielsen, which translates to about 1.5 percent of viewers in 56 of the biggest markets in the United States. The M.L.S. championship game attracted at a rating of 0.8.Fox has plans to carry another E.P.L. game on its main network the morning of the Super Bowl, Sunday, Feb. 5, but has not yet completed its plans for that day.In a related note, ESPN said Monday that it would not renew the contract of the analyst John Harkes, but instead would promote Taylor Twellman to the position. Twellman, 31, is a former M.L.S. Most Valuable Player who retired in 2010 after sustaining several concussions. He was a studio analyst this past season.
