Too bad Málaga actually won yesterday vs. Gijón. My boys finished a respectable 5th, which is pretty damn good considering that they were 11th halfway through the season (and only a few points from the relegation zone). The story of yesterday though was the collapse of Villarreal, which needed a point to stay up and failed to get it against my Atleti, while Rayo won in the final seconds, sending the yellow submarine to new depths in la segunda next year.I don't recall a collapse of this magnitude in recent la liga history. Villarreal finish in 4th in the 2010-2011 season and played in the CL Group stage in the 2011-2012 season. They finished the Group stage without a single point though. From Champions League to playing in la segunda in one season. Man, what a catastrophe for them. They simply couldn't score goals this season, finishing 3rd from the bottom in goals scored and only scored 2 goals in 6 CL Group games. Yikes.
Obviously losing Altidore was Villarreal's downfall. Málaga is going to be a new power. Interesting, Ruud announced his retirement today.
Málaga needs to up their talent some more still. To compete with Valencia, Atlético, Sevilla, and Athletic (the 2nd tier in terms of talent) they'll need to invest in some strikers. Maybe they'll spend some bucks on David Villa?
I hope not.

It took me a second to process this but what will this mean to Rossi's career now? As damaged goods is he going to be stuck trying to prove his health in the second division now?Seems very similar to Holden's situation.

What American's will play in UCL next season as of now?

Assuming Friedel stays at Spurs and Chelsea does not win, he will be in UCL qualifying.

Sacha will be in UCL qualifying I believe as Belgium champions.

Anyone else? I think both Jozy and Gooch miss out. The guys at Rangers miss out because of the financial mess.

This surprises me if true. I thought he would at least come to camp but not make the final 23.

Judging by Sacha Kljestan's tweets & what I've been hearing, the new Belgian league champ won't be in USMNT camp. Unfortunate if so.

Real quick look shows (1) Michael Parkhurst (his team has qualified for either 1st/2nd, which will make Champions League qualifying) and, if you want to count him, because he probably shouldn't be counted, (2) Terrence Boyd at Dortmund. There may be more out there too.

Given what they would have to pay Torres I don't see how that's even close to reasonable.

Good news for Villa fans, McLeish out.
He never should have been in. That was one of the oddest picks of the season. Villa has historically been a top team and has consistently been top-half for recent memory. Why would they pick up a tactically defunct coach off of a relegated team that the fans hate? That made zero sense.

I'm sure you guys talked about yesterday, but...

Is this the last we see of Joey Barton in the EPL?

(btw- I loved how he allowed Micah Richards to escort him off, but the second he sees SuperMario, :headasplode: )

And somehow, without half their team, the BullMetros climb their way into 1st on 4 wins in a row.

In other news, defender Conde, assaults a NJ policeman in a drunken 5am stupor. That should go over well with team and league.

I thought Richards elbow was warranted and just a glancing blow. Everything that happened after the red card was  . When I saw Balotelli approach all I could think of a Detroit/Artest incident. I was kind of hoping for some :boxing:

The elbow to Tevez? I mean- an elbow is never really warranted if you want to stay in the game and not be suspended for a healhty stretch... but #### yeah, Tevez deserves whatever the hell he gets (especially after mauling Barton on the way into that play).

CONGRATS TO CITY. They deserved the title (although QPR deserved a better result in the game despite Barton). Imagine if he had left the field and not contributed to their being 5 added.... :wall:

Anyway, City deserved the title, United lost it vs Wigan and tossing 2 goals away to Everton and City does what champions do with 2 goals in added time. Tip the hat to them.

Next year will be fun if Tottenham and Newcastle continue to improve and Everton learns to start quickly. Also, Arsenal and Chelsea will continue to challenge....

Best tweet I saw from the weekend:

Endured the Invincibles, lived through the Russian revolution and surely United will survive the rise of the Blue Moon. MUFC will rise again!

Sorry, I didn't mean Richards. I felt Tevez was mixing it up prior to the elbow. The red card was warranted but a bit of acting on Tevez's part. That guy is a little b*tch

If finally got a chance to watch the Bolton game. Man, would it be hard to go down like that. That Walters goal was atrocious. The keeper clearly had the ball and Walters simpy smashed into him to knock it out. How does the ref and the lineman miss that? It's just one of those inexplicable things. Mistakes happen, but when a referee/linesman brain farts like that you just want to punch them in the face.

Brutal collapse from a club that was one of the more enjoyable Spanish sides to watch over the last decade or so. That said, I was glad to see Granada stay up. I love that city.

And I was happy that Rayo stayed up. They had a good first half of the season, but really faded down the stretch. The Primera money will come in handy for them.

Bolton were robbed. Horrible way to go down.

All 4 goals in that game were horrendous if I am remembering the highlights correctly.

QPR planning to dump himSure teams will be lining up for a goon who makes 70k per week and is looking at a long suspension.
I'm sure he'll find a place somewhere. I actually wouldn't be surprised if he was still with QPR next season.

On the game winning goal by Man City, did QPR already realize that they were safe? I think remember Darke saying the bench was already jumping and celebrating.
They did. Mark Hughes admitted that and thought it may have led to the goal.

Weird that a blown call in a game between the 14th and 18th place teams may have ultimately determined the championship.

Gah, I'd much rather have Falcao than Torres and the money.
Clearly he has the talent to do what he did for Liverpool, but not many teams can gamble at that rate. If you know Falcao works (and won't go down in value) would you gamble on Torres? It seems to me it would have to be a better offer than what's being presented if it was to even be considered.

I can't imagine that Torres + 15mm is the best AM could do, if they to do decide to sell. Z can probably answer better than I, but I'd rather have all-cash or a better player than Torres.I assume if he goes, Citeh and Chelsea are going to be the two main suitors.

At Chelsea, he'll reportedly be lining up with Hulk, Ronaldo, Neymar, Cavani and Goetze, with both Pep and Morinho on the sidelines as co-coaches.

I have been a City supporter for eleven years and follow them closely ( much easier now than early on) and I can't remember a more unbelievable moment in sports. Maybe game 6 NLCS in '86 but that didn't win it. Simply unreal. I have watched the game three times and still get a little choked up at the. Very happy for the supporters there who must have gone through sports fan he'll the last two decades and are the main reason I started backing City in the first place. Amazing.

That would be a pretty sweet line-up.

Ha!Winning on Saturday will be even sweeter now, knowing that it will knock Spurs from the CL and likely cost them Bale and Modric. :)

Speaking of the Spurs, I saw a rumor that linked Bale to Madrid (a better fit for him than Barca, to be honest), but wouldn't he be playing the same spot in the 4-2-3-1 as CR?

Spurs move him around quite a bit. More than most fans would like, but he is versatile. I believe Barca actually had him pegged for left back.

I agree. I think they'll need to up the offer by quite a bit.Assuming Falcao is worth 55m€, how much is Torres worth right now? 25m€? 20m€? Remember that Kun got sold for 40m€ or so by Atlético last year. Oh and BTW, Man City had to pay an additional 750k€ to Atlético after they won the title. Interesting clause in the transfer deal...
