Ives reported that UEFA has fined Russia and also docked it 6 points for the next qualification cycle for Euro 2016.

The violence yesterday.========The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body today decided to impose a deduction of six points on the Football Union of Russia (RFS) for the qualifying competition of the next UEFA European Football Championship.This decision is suspended for a probationary period running from now until the end of the play-offs for the UEFA EURO 2016 finals.The RFS has also been fined €120,000. The RFS was facing charges for the improper conduct of its supporters (crowd disturbances), the setting off and throwing of fireworks and the display of illicit banners at last Friday's UEFA EURO 2012 Group A match against the Czech Republic in Wroclaw.An appeal can be lodged against this decision within three days of the dispatch of the written decision.

doesnt seem fair
I agree. UEFA had to know scheduling that game on that day in that city was going to be a mess. They should have simply switched the Group A and Group C's schedules ages ago to avoid the obvious conflict.

Beautiful goal for the Danes.

Ronaldo must feel like an ### missing what looked like 2 easy goals.

I assume this means they aren't actually docked points unless there's additional trouble at any point in the next four years.

Hmm good question. I have no idea what that means. The media is reporting it like the points are definitely going to be docked but the wording in the sentence you listed may indicate otherwise.

I caught myself before it got too bad but I just opened this thread and started reading it without even thinking. Son of a #####.

I don't exactly hate myself for liking Germany, but I'm surprised at how much I appreciate them despite myself. That is a very fine team -- class of the tournament so far IMO.

And on the flip-side, the Dutch have looked like they don't even want to be there in their first 1.5 games.

I'm no big soccer fan but I ll watch this, Olympics, WC. Don't you guys get sick of watching this constant flopping and diving. Every close offsides play every defender puts his arms up and looks to the ref. Just put your head down and play. It's disgraceful.

Eh, you get over it.This doesn't mean I endorse it. Unfortunately it's just part of the game. A ####ty part, but a part nonetheless.

Funny you mention this while the Germans and playing the Dutch as I think this has been a fairly penalty free game. The ref is letting them play and the players seem to be staying on their feet more. I feel that constant flopping is a tactic historically used by less talented teams/players but that is just my opinion.ETA: I know that you were not speaking about this game in particular but the timing of the post during a pretty penalty free match.

I disagree. It's a cultural thing that has cropped up in the last 20 years. Some players do it far more than others, and it doesn't have much to do with how talented they are. Look at CRonaldo, Suárez, and Rooney. One of these is not like the other.

No question it is a bad part of the sport. Every sport has their down sides and this happens to be soccer's. Luckily there is more than enough great things in the sport to make up for it.

So, if Netherlands beats Portugal 1-0, and Germany beats Denmark 1-0 - who advances?
I am guessing Portugal, but I don't know the tie breakers. They would all have -1 GD, but Portugal and Denmark would have 4 goals scored to 3 for the Dutch, and Portugal has the H2H tiebreaker over Denmark.But, if GA is a higher tiebreaker, then the Dutch would have the fewest GA of the 3 and advance.

Here are the tie breakers. Does not look like goal against factors in at all outside of GD.Note: If Germany beats Denmark 1-0, Denmark only has 3 goals scored, not 4.Tie-breaking criteriaIf two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the following criteria are applied to determine the rankings:1) higher number of points obtained in the matches among the teams in question;2) superior goal difference in the matches among the teams in question (if more than two teams finish equal on points);3) higher number of goals scored in the matches among the teams in question (if more than two teams finish equal on points);4) superior goal difference in all the group matches;5) higher number of goals scored in all the group matches;6) drawing of lots.If two teams which have the same number of points, the same number of goals scored and conceded play their last group match against each other and are still equal at the end of that match, the ranking of the two teams in question is determined by a penalty shootout, provided no other teams within the group have the same number of points on completion of all group matches.

Equality of points after the group matches

8.07 If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the

following criteria are applied, in the order given; to determine the rankings:

a) higher number of points obtained in the matches among the teams in question;

b) superior goal difference in the matches among the teams in question (if more

than two teams finish equal on points);

c) higher number of goals scored in the matches among the teams in question (if

more than two teams finish equal on points);

d) superior goal difference in all the group matches;

e) higher number of goals scored in all the group matches;

f) position in the UEFA national team coefficient ranking system (see Annex I,

paragraph 1.2.2);

g) fair play conduct of the teams (final tournament);

h) drawing of lots.

8.08 If two teams which have the same number of points, the same number of goals

scored and conceded play their last group match against each other and are still

equal at the end of that match, the ranking of the two teams in question is

determined by kicks from the penalty mark (Article 16), provided no other teams

within the group have the same number of points on completion of all group

matches. Should more than two teams have the same number of points, the criteria

listed under paragraph 8.07 apply.

so, in the 1-0 games, it looks like Portugal would advance, assuming they knock the Dutch out on number of goals scored among the 3 - Portugal and Denmark would have 3 each, and Netherlands only 1. Then if they start back at the top - Portugal wins the H2H.
