Curtuois with and absolute howler to let one in. Wow, and I can't recall a worse one in the last few seasons. He's played well in general, the but he is young. Still, even though it's raining there's no way a goalie playing professional football should look that bad. I'm concerned that they pulled Falcao at the half. The offense flows through him.

Wasnt here yesterday but wanted to say that I was extremely pleased with Chelsea's performance despite the narrow 1-0 scoreline. Di Matteo finally started Oscar, Hazard and Mata together - playing them behind Torres which led to bevy of smart passes and free flowing movement. Behind them he started Ramires in a more central midfield role along side Mikel, rather than playing him on the wing (where hes played until now). The result was excellent - Ramires ran all over the pitch and helped Cheslea dominate possession. I hope this will be his permanent position moving forward. When Victor Moses replaced Hazard, the team added width and speed on the flanks and opened up Oscar and Mata even more which led to the decisive goal. This lineup had Lampard on the bench but at 34, I dont think you can expect him to start every match anymore.Sadly, Torres is still the weak link on the team. While hes doing much better coming back to the ball and connecting with Hazard/Mata in order to set the attack, his finishing is still mediocre. I dont know how much longer Di Matteo will stick with him as the clear cut #1 striker - at the very least, Id prefer to see him rotate he and Sturridge to see if the offense is more potent with a different forward in the game.
I think Sturridge was hurt yesterday or he may have had a look. Torres is always very active and seems "dangerous", but when you play the #9 role, I don't think that's what you want to hear. Fans have been very supportive, but I think that's wearing very thin.I loved Ram in the Lampard role yesterday, but I think Mikel (sadly, as I love the guy) had another weak performance after his disastrous mid-week game against Juve. I think RDM will have to find another option for the double pivot. I'm surprised he hasn't given Romeu a closer look. Oscar/Hazard/Mata looks like it will make for a fun year for us!

Hoffenheim got a much needed win today, 3-1 over Hannover.

Both Fabian Johnson and Danny Williams scored for Hoffenheim.

CM - Mikel is a bit of a wonder, eh? The fans never seem to support him but every Chelsea coach makes him the fulcrum of the central midfield. Completely agree about giving Romeu a chance. As for our strikers, this wouldbve been a good season to see what we have in Lukaku. Oh well, theres still plenty of time for Torres to get back into a scoring groove.

Re: Man United and Hillsborough...

Man United fans: Liverpool fans were murderers at Heysel, drunken thugs responsible for crushing each other to death at Hillsborough, and the city is one made up entirely of victims who are never responsible for their actions or their situation in life (Hillsborough, Heysel, Liverpool's large population of poorish people).

Liverpool fans: hahaha, your plane crashed in 1958 and killed your whole team.

Someone upstream asked for the basic idea of what today's chanting was about. That was the Reader's Digest version, but certainly not intended to offend.Man United fans chant terrible things at the Liverpool supporters about their role in the disaster at Heysel. They do the same using the official version (until last week) of the incident at Hillsborough. Though one would have thought they'd stop that one since the recent report discredits the idea that the supporters had anything to do with it.In return the Liverpool supporters have chanted about the Munich disaster and, as a couple idiots did today, run around with their arms out wide -- like an airplane. No doubt it's a minority of supporters, but it does go on. Enough so that Ferguson asked his traveling supporters not to do it before this fixture.

And yet during the pre-game singing of You'll Never Walk Alone in honor of the 96 that died, Man U supporters tried to sing nasty chants about being victims over top of the rest of the stadium. It couldn't have been more disrespectful if it had come during a minute of silence. There is no healing to be had in this rivalry.

Thanks. I was confused by this coming right after all the Chelsea talk. Would have been a good spot to use the quote feature.Today in review:
MirrorFootball ‏@MirrorFootballRT @jimshelley17: Brilliant decision by Fergie to rotate Howard Webb and play Mark Halsey

Thoughts on Shelvey's card? I thought he was going to get a yellow.
The ref sucked nuts and should be sacked.https://twitter.com/StonesLfc/status/249862500680597505/photo/1/largeI did like Jonjo giving SAF #### on his way out. #### ol' baconface.ETA: It should have been 10 v 10

Last, but not least...

Rumour is Harry is coming to Ipswich Town. Seriously this is terrible news. The man is a ##### beyond all possible descriptions.

Bring back Keane!!

so ugh.

only thing I'll say about that game, is that I recall a certain Johnny Evans ruining Stuart Holden's career (to this point) on a similar play that Shelvey made- two guys going into a tackle, one wins the ball and the other cleans out the other player with studs up. IIRC, Johnny Evans gets a yellow on that day however.

and to clarify- I think Shelvey in that moment in this game should have earned a yellow there. only reason Evans doesn't, is that he wins ball cleanly without contact (yeah, yeah- I know... studs up etc).

I know I'm going to get hated here- but IMO, aside from that Red, the ref did a decent job. Liverpool players' consternation and woe-is-meism at every bit of contact after that not being a foul didn't help matters- nor did Suarez's diving.

But he got that red wrong, and so the rest of that guy's work for the day is ####ed.

The penalty was awful. Valencia wasn't even touched. I have no idea what video you are looking at, but that wasn't remotely close to a penalty. The diving crap has to stop.If a referee gives one side an extra man and a free goal the rest of his work is rather meaningless. The game is pretty ####ed at that point.

Evans got a red on that Holden tackle. Shelvey got the ball as well. The only reason Evans didn't also get a red was the referee's angle. I don't believe he actually saw the way Evans went in.Edit: Actually it was Halsey that gave the Huddlestone red a few weeks ago that was rescinded. That was almost the same exact thing. He seems to red card the standing player even if both go in two-footed. I guess if you get Halsey as a referee and go into a questionable tackle it's best to feign injury.

I'm not saying the PK was soft- or that given the wrongly called red, that the ref should have chosen to opt out of making a second game changing calls for the same team when both were iffy. But yeah- when i first watched the play, I thought- no way. Next two replays from the side/front, I thought- yeah... contact (albeit not much). Replay from the back looked like no contact/dive. But the one from the back you couldn't actually see whether there was contact or not- just looked like not. The other two views looked yes. So for me, as a call in a vacuum, the pk wasn't "awful". That said, I thought the ref got it right by not calling what looked like similar contact when Agger was dragged down early in the game in the box- and thus not changing the direction of the game with a ref decision on an iffy PK. Too bad he didn't do the same later, especially given the red.

Oh- my consternation level just dropped. I thought it was ####ed that Evans would avoid a red in that Holden challenge, yet Shelvy get one for his. Consistency.I got into an argument at work with a Reds supporter about that Shelvey challenge. He claimed it was 50/50 and that Shelvey got the ball first. The way I saw it, Evans won the ball first (albeit with studs up) with Shelvey coming in a split-second behind- the ball ricocheting off of his leg just as his rigth foot hit Evans. What made things worse for Shelvey was a: the viewpoint of the ref, and b: he flew in with both feet apart like a scissor. Not in the end any worse than what Evans was dishing out, but it looked worse, especially from the viewpoint of the cameras that most simumlated the ref's view.

What a ####### joke. As soon as that chitty ref was keeping his hand near his back right pocket while chatting to another crappy ref I knew it was over. The first person I see wearing a United jersey at soccer practice this week is going to get punched in the mouth.

Good for Wondo. He really earned this chance if it comes to pass

According to the German press and sources close to the club, Wondo leads a list of strikers that Hannover’s coach Mirko Slomka is observing at the moment as the team is urged to sign a goal scorer as soon as the transfer window opens in December for Europe.Aside from his great skills as a goalscorer, Wondo would be a great option for Hannover as the striker would not be considered a non-EU citizenship player, as he has Polish heritage through his grandfather.

that would be cool. A little late in the career/game for us US supporters, but cool for him.I saw that Williams and Johnson scored for Hoff, leading them past Cherundolo and Wondo's Hannover.

Yeah, him sitting behind Ching for so many years killed him. Not too many players bloom this late in their career but the kid works his butt off so I hope he gets one good pay day. Interestingly, he is in a very good position, seeing that he is the face of the SJ franchise that is building a new stadium and is almost a mortal lock to win the Supporters Shield to get the CCL spot for next year. He might be one of those rare American players that his team will splurge on. No reason at all that he could not be a DP level player for two years.

Anybody get to see Spurs and Dempsey? I heard he got the start... how'd he look?
Not very good. I think it was more a result of Bale playing left back though. It seems like it would work because Dempsey likes to cut inside and Bale is great at providing width, but in reality it didn't. He did better once Bale went on the wing, he moved behind Defoe, and Sigurdsson was taken off.

Page 5? Unacceptable.

Grantland's MLS column this week is an interview with Sporting KC's Kei Kamara. Definitely worth reading.

Replacing The Reducer with The Designated Player makes scooby sad. And yeah, the DP, is better written and more substantive. And I think MLS has improved by leaps and bounds in the last few years. But I want my fanboy EPL article.

I hadn't even noticed that The Reducer disappeared. I was a big fan of that as well. I don't see why there isn't room for both.

Terry got suspended 4 games today.........which makes total sense, since there was video evidence of him actually racially abusing Anton Ferdinand, while Suarez got 8 games based on hearsay that he used a term which is commonly used in his country, and is not racially offensive there. That's fair.

Seems like someone should suspend the FA for racism...

So you're complaining that the guy who faced criminal prosecution got off easy? Odd.England has weird notions of free speech. Seems to me that both had explanations that flirted on the fringe of plausibility. But I'm sure it's a conspiracy.

I don't know how Terry hasn't gotten a permanent ban for general ####ishness. Sort of like a lifetime achievement award.

PMs are not my friend. I am looking for soccer and "other" bets like where I can bet on Romney to win POTUS.

Sportsbook.ag has a pretty big selection of bets for soccer. 1st half/2nd half, Asian Handicap, both teams to score, o/u's for not just 2.5 goals but 1.5 and 3.5 for big games, correct score props, etc. etc. I play a LOT of soccer over there. They used to have a bad reputation in re: cashout time, but I think they've gotten better. Their lines have a LOT of juice. 5Dimes doesn't offer much in the way of variety, but there's less juice and they have a better reputation overall. They also won't cut your limits if you beat them too badly. Don't know much about Pinnacle, but those three are the big sites for US bettors, I believe.

I had a Pinnacle account when I lived in Spain, but haven't used it in years. How would I go about funding that account? Or should I just open an new one?
