For people who have been watching the U20's, Jose Villareal might be one of the players on the US that has caught your eye.He has a big opportunity coming up. With Landon still on walk about until some time in April, Villareal is going to have a good chance at some playing time with LA, including the the Champions League Quarter Final two legged affair on March 7/13th.

I read that Matthew Etherington of Stoke is questionable this weekend with a back injury. If he can not start, it is expected that Shea will get the start.
I don't want to wish anyone poor health but hope Etherington needs some additional time to recover. A confident, effective Shea would be a huge help for the USMNT.

would he ever. He possesses the exact skill set the US is severely lacking with the roster 95% full of central players.I know JK would never put out a line up like this but I would welcome this against Costa Rica (assuming Shea is ready)

..................Howard

..Chandler.....Gonzo.....Cameron.......Fab

...................Edu

...Zusi............Bradley...............Shea

............Dempsey..........Jozy

Notes:

1) This lineup would give Jozy the service he typically does not get with the normal formation

2) I will hold my nose and pray Chandler does not put up another stinker

3) If not confident in Gonzo, I am ok with Boca and Cam in the middle

4) With Edu playing very well in Turkey, I would give him the nod over Williams who has lost his place at plunging Hoffenhiem.

5) I know Jones is not on the field, which is why I think JK would never field this type of team.

Just read that Obafemi Martins is coming to MLS to play for Seattle.Always was a huge fan of this guy - he's still only 28 (allegedly). Has underwhelmed considerably since his move from Newcastle, I wonder if he still has anything left in the tank.

I really liked his clever touch on the 4th Canada goal. It reminded me of Dyer's touch on his second goal in the League Cup final. Intentionally a little heavy to make the space.

it was nice to see him score three different ways with his head, left foot and right foot. This should be an important year for him to see if he is just going to be a good pro or whether he has the potential for the national team some day in the future.

Atlético Madrid will play Real Madrid for the Copa del Rey final after going up 4-1 aggregate in the first half, they managed to give up 2 late goals to make it moderately interesting. Sevilla finished with 9 players and were fouling and hacking for the entire second half. Unlike the FA Cup, the CdR isn't necessarily played at a neutral site. Since RM hosted last time Atleti and their most hated rival faced in the CdR final, there is a precedent already for these two teams. Hopefully, this time it will be on Atlético's turf the Vicente Calderón. The EFF has the final word on the site and date though. Atlético is 13-0-0 at home this year in la liga play. There only loss was in the recent Europa league game.Alternatives to the Vicente Calderón is to play at Camp Nou or the Mestalla (Valencia).

If the MLS transfer window is open but the European window is closed, can players still be transferred in the direction from Europe to MLS?

It seems strange to have a tournament final in a home stadium. I would think they would at least toss a coin.

The whole Copa Del Rey stadium choice drama is ridiculous. Each year.

Saw on SkySports that Dortmund has said they will be parting ways with Lewandowski this summer. It was expected but still a bummer. Can't wait for the rest of the young studs to flee to England and Spain.

There's always Bayern.
I think Lewandowski has been strongly linked with Bayern for some time now. It would be odd to see a young Polish striker sign his first big contract anywhere else.

One half at one stadium in the morning, then the other half at the other stadium in the afternoon?

I said England and Spain. Stop this evil drivel.

It has been rumored. Of course everyone with talent in Germany is rumored to Bayern at some point.

They could take the metro and only transfer once. Depending on wait times, it could take 15 mins to go that far.

Part 2 to the MLS Survey by Wahl

Who is the dirtiest player in the league?

1. Steven Lenhart, San Jose (five votes)

2. Aurélien Collin, Kansas City; Brandon McDonald, D.C. United (two votes)

My Take: MLS' answer to Eddie Haskell won this one by a clear margin, and even guys who like Lenhart personally voted for him. "Lenny for sure," said one player. "He's my boy, but he's dirty." Another said: "This is hard, because I think he's my favorite player in the league, but Steven Lenhart." I'm left wondering if there's a badge of honor that comes with being a cartoon villain? One player actually voted for himself until I reminded him he couldn't vote for anyone from his own team.

Awesome

I know why McBride came out so early. Do you remember why Reyna subbed before halftime? Ironically losing two of their top players early in that game actually helped them as both Wolff and Mathis turned that game.

Some MLS News* Brian Ching will return for one more season in Houston in the form of a player/coach (I am never quite to sure how a player coach affects the cap)* Dwayne DeRosario, who lost control of himself and head butted an opponent in a pre season match has been suspended for the first two regular season games.

With the new season starting tomorrow, I am going to pick Sporting KC to win it all. Even after losing two top players to the EPL, I just find them so well balanced. They remind me of the team RSL built a few years back where their were no superstars but had solid players at every position. If Vermes can find the elusive key to unlock Benny's talents at the club level, they are going to have a ton of talent on the field. They have one of the best keepers in the league in Nielsen and arguably the best back 4 in the league anchored by last years defender of the year in Beseler. And then offensively they can link Benny, Zusi, Convey and their new DP Bieler, and then have Sappong coming off the bench to provide second half punch.

Ryan Giggs has been re-signed to play through the 2014 season which will see him past his 40th birthday. I don't know the exact number but it can't be many field players who have played in the EPL past their 40th birthday.

How much longer is Zusi expected to be in the MLS? Seems like there should be a lot more interest in him from the bigger leagues. Like you everyone in KC expects them to do very well this year.

Zusi signed a new 4 year deal last year that runs through the 2015 season. If he is to leave before that(which many expect) it may take a bid of more than $5 million especially with Sporting in the Champions League for the first time this year. The fact that recent MLS players have adjusted well to moving on should help his chances.

I'm not sure I'd ever seen the whole game's highlights like that. The goals were played on local news, but a bunch of that stuff I hadn't seen since that night. btw... it really was cold as balls and IIRC Mexico did not come out of the dressing room to warm up ahead of the game. We took that as a good sign at the time.

Zusi trialed with West Ham but did not receive an offer.
KC never confirmed this. They only said he was training with West Ham, as many MLS players do in England every winter.
I read an interview with Zusi and he seemed to think it was a trial. He was unsure whether Sam would make a bid before the close of the January window.

Watching the US U20 v Cuba right now. :thumbup:2-0 good guys inside12 minutes
Not the best game to watch as Cuba just seemed happy to qualify. US vs Mexico in final. Both teams are 4-0 in qualifying. US will be severely undermanned for the final, I think they may be down to just 14 players depending on how Villareal is. Cropper (starting keeper) is returning to club team tomorrow.

Early, fairly meaningless Clasico. RM has a very weakened side out there today, with their CL match against Man U in mid-week. Barca's got the A-team out there, save for Xavi who's injured.

####### Canada. Apparently canada won't do business with bein so they don't get any la liga games. Took me exactly 45mins to get a stream up and running on my friend's ipad. Know how I know it took 45mins? Because the first image I see is of everyone walking off the field for halftime. :wall:

I did end up getting tix for the whitecaps mls opener. Locals tell me the revamped stadium is awesome. Now if would only sto raining.....

CR comes in and gets a touch in the first minute - Pique challenges him and CR dives makes a meal out of it and Pique "earns" a yellow cardPique came up to CR and started talking to him about duping the ref and got a wry smile out of CR

Interesting development at Everton. Jan Mucha makes his debut for the Toffees over Tim Howard. First time he has started an EPL game in the 3 years he's been with Everton. 210 consecutive matches for Howard before today's game. Howard was two games short of tying Neville Southalls 212 consecutive league appearance record. He was injured in this weeks 3-1 victory over Oldham in the FA Cup. Everton up 3-0 vs. Reading. Mirallas, Pienaar and Fellaini with the goals.
