Stoke getting closer and closer to relegation....:pleasepleaseplease:
With Hoffenheim already in the relegation zone, it would suck of Stoke did drop as well, from a US National team perspective. If those two teams drop that is 4 national team players who will be removed from top flight soccer (unless they transfer or are loaned).
How much good soccer can you really learn from playing with Orcs anyway?
orcs are faster than Beckerman

Bayern capped off a remarkably dominant season this year by winning the Bundesliga title with still 6 weeks left in the season. That is a record for earliest clinching of a title since the Bundesliga started in 1963.

And they still have two more trophy's to shoot for.

If they win the treble, they are going to have to be considered as a top 10-15 club (if not higher) of all time.

The Quakes pulled a massive brain fart tonight.

SJ was up 1-0 in the second half when the field got kind of slick.

For some reason 2 Quakes players left the field at the same time to change their cleats.

Vancouver took advantage of the two man advantage and scored to get a draw.

:lmao:

"Wait- what are you doing here?" [both heads turn towards their own goal]

I did not see the game but I have to assume they both came to the bench. I can't figure out why the SJ coach did not tell one of them "wait until the other guy comes back on".

Reminder: the US U17 qualifying begins tonight.

First game of tournament is against Haiti at 6:30pm eastern on Fox Soccer.

Format is identical to the U20 Qualifying.

4 groups of 3

Top 2 from each group advance to quarters

The 4 quarter final winners advance to U17 WC

The quarterfinal match up for US is likely to be very hard if they advance from group stage and will be against one of Honduras, Mexico or Cuba.

Seems like the best place to ask this......

Today I'm buying my girls (6 & 8) shoes for soccer and I was wondering......

Should I just get them indoor shoes? They both had cleats this past season but at these ages Im not sure if they're a help or a detriment. Thoughts?

Spurs manage to salvage a point. Other than Man City the rest of their games are against lower table teams, so their postponed match with Chelsea could determine who gets in the CL and who doesn't.

How nice are the fields and how wet is the weather where you live?

Hard fields & dry probably means indoor are ok.

Thick and/or wet grass/mud would lead me toward cleats, as would a mix between the two.

what surface will they be playing on?

If grass, I would get them cleats, if field turf, you have more choices. If it is good field turf, you can still use cleats, if it is matted down quite a bit, you could probably get away with more of an indoor shoe. In either case walk the field just to see what it is like. You will be able to tell pretty quickly yourself if a flat shoe will work or not.

Not sure why you wouldn't want cleats if you're outside (and not on turf fields) as far as not slipping when wet or muddy.

Plus at that age you don't want everybody else with cleats stepping on your toes and you can't return the favor.

Watching Mirallas Barry Sanders another defender this week made me feel better about what he did to Cameron last week.

Well I was thinking something like these:

http://www.worldsoccershop.com/47952.html

They seem to be a mix of the two but I don't know Jack #### about soccer shoes/cleats.

We play on grass so the flat/indoor shoes would not be a good choice as you guys have stated. What about these hybrid looking shoes I linked above?
they should be ok unless it is the worst of the worst wet conditions.

But this is 6 and 8 years old girls soccer. You might be putting more thought into it than you need to. You might need to research butterfly nets in more depth though :)

Cherundolo started and went the full 90 for Hannover.

I think every player (Castillo, Cherundolo, Chandler, Donovan, Johnson, and Williams) that was hurt/out is back except for Jones.

Solid first game for the US U17's. They had a poor start in the first 20 minutes where Haiti came at them with over the top balls. After surviving a couple of close chances the US got control of the game and won easily 3-0.

That puts them in an excellent spot to advance. The US probably needs to win the group though to avoid Mexico in knock out round.

The Red Bull academy product Christopher Lema looked solid at the DM spot. He distributed well all game, scored a pk and scored a rocket from the top of the box.

Rubio Rubin was not that present in the first half (although he did hit the post on one of his few chances) but played much better in second half.

Biggest surprise for me was Junior Flores on the bench and no playing time even as sub. The announcers alluded to the fact that he lost his starting spot to Cory Baird.

We were talking about this earlier in here. I'll find a link.

just funnin on ya Andy
I don't get it. Did I miss something that was posted? I apologize if I reposted something that was already posted. When I posted it was shortly after Bayern had won the championship and did not see anything related to it already posted.

great example of how the football media works rumors:

How Manchester United got a £38m fee ready for Nemanja Matic in 48 hours

On Monday Allan Jiang did an article for Bleacher Report titled '10 Biggest Summer Transfer Rumours so Far', it was one of those where you have to click through a list and each rumour has its own explanation. Rumour number three was Kevin Strootman to Manchester United, that's been going on for over a year and most United fans will be familiar with the reports.

Allan said that Manchester United should instead turn their attention to Nemanja Matic of Benfica. This is the entirety of what he wrote on the subject:

"If Manchester United want that anchor, Strootman shouldn't be their man -- it should be Nemanja Matic of Benfica."

That's all Bleacher Report have done on Matic to Manchester United. There are no further articles claiming the club are about to sign him and it's not what Bleacher Report do anyway, being more concerned with the opinion side of football.

On Tuesday A Bola in Portugal ran an article titled 'Matic on Manchester United's list' and they said that the Premier League club were tracking the Benfica midfielder. These are their words:

'According to the news website bleacherreport.com, the Benfica midfielder will be an option if Alex Ferguson decides to strengthen the squad's midfield sector with a view to next season. Listed previously with the English club is also Dutchman Kevin Strootman, PSV, but Matic allegedly appears in the first position.'

So they've taken an article which was discussing transfer rumours, changed it to suit them and put Matic forward as a main target of Manchester United - when that was never suggested in the first place. Once it was on A Bola we knew it would get to England and did an article on that yesterday, but even cynical old us have been surprised at how this 'story' has been twisted.

English newspaper The Daily Express have this afternoon published an article titled 'Manchester United tempted to activate Nemanja Matic's release clause' and they go on to say:

'According to Portuguese paper A Bola, Matic has emerged as United's top transfer target.

However, the Serbian carries a steep transfer fee and has a release clause worth £38m.'

And that is how so many transfer rumours are born. Total and utter horse-meat. You'll no doubt see the Matic rumour elsewhere, it's already made its way to Italy and is all over social networks. Poor Allan Jiang at Bleacher Report probably had no idea what he was starting when he said Manchester United should consider Matic instead of Strootman.

One sentence in a blog is turned into a newspaper story saying Manchester United are tempted to make a £38m bid, in two days.

Even though Bayern has clinched the Bundesliga title, there's still plenty to play for in the rest of the table.

So will Bayern play their starters on a rotation for Bundesliga play to keep them fresh and in-form but not risk injuries?
I sure hope so, but not enough to lose their form. They play in Turin on Wednesday, host Wolfsburg on Saturday, host Wolfsburg again on Tuesday in the Pokal, and then at Hannover the next Saturday. I'm hoping they use those two Saturday league matches to rest some players.

Holden piece

http://espnfc.com/blog/_/name/soccerusa/id/2180?cc=5901

"I've always had the goal of representing the U.S. at another World Cup, and I firmly believe I can be on that plane for Brazil next year," he said.

Holden is under no illusions as to what it will take to get there, however; games -- lots of them -- and everything that entails.

"It's just repetition at this point," he said. "My strength is there, my fitness is there, it's just building on that. You can always get fitter; you can always get stronger in little ways like that. And that's what's going to come in games. Getting knocked off the ball, riding a challenge, going to shoot and someone slide tackling you; you can't replicate that in rehab and training as much as you want to. Those are things I'm looking to get more of and in each game just getting better and more comfortable, and just getting back to the level I was at two years ago."
Love his attitude. What an amazing story it would be if he made the World Cup roster.
