"Impossible is only a word that weak people use who live easily in the world given to them, without daring to explore the power they to change it," Alves wrote. "'Impossible' is not a fact, it is an opinion. 'Impossible' is not a declaration, it is a challenge. 'Impossible' is potential. 'Impossible' is temporary. Impossible is nothing."

"The first leg was key, but today we demonstrated we are a team that could have been in the final," Ronaldo said. "We missed chances, we scored too late. I want to congratulate the fans for their support. We're sad because we knew there was a final game. We have proven to be better than them, but the score in the first leg was key."

"I know in England I'm loved," he told reporters. "I'm loved by the fans, I'm loved by the media that treats me in a fair way, criticising me but giving me credit when I deserve it. I know I'm loved by some clubs, especially one.

"In Spain, the situation is a bit different because some people hate me. Many of you are in this room.

"I didn't make a decision because I have a contract. But more than a contract, because in football contracts you break it when people want to break, is the respect I have for the club and the respect I have for the president.

"That's why I want to play the [Copa Del Rey] final, I want to finish the season, I want to try to win the final, I want to try to finish second and at the end of the season I want to sit in front of Florentino Perez - my president, my friend - and decide the best for me.

"I like the club, I like the president, I need to be honest and fair and at the end of the season I speak.''
:o

From Guardian

Heynckes could even be forgiven if it is in his thinking that six of his players – Javi Martínez, Mario Gomez, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Luiz Gustavo, Dante and Philipp Lahm – would miss the final with another yellow card.
Other than Mandzukic for Gomez, I can see Jupp not making a change in the starting lineup. He has actually said "absolutely no consideration" regarding yellows and his lineup. With an early goal Bayern could then sub out some of these and I think Martinez and Schweinsteiger are the biggest threats to get another card so I would get them out quickly if a goal were to happen.

First leg's line:

Neuer - Lahm, Boateng, Dante, Alaba - Martínez, Schweinsteiger - Robben, Müller (83. Pizarro), Ribéry (89. Shaqiri) - Gomez (71. Gustavo)

Martinez needs to sit, he's so aggressive no way he lasts 90. Mandzokic(sp) is back, right? So Gomez shouldn't be an issue
Martinez was their best player last week.
I agree, but it was partly because he was so physical. Love the guy, but he won't go 90 without a yellow if he plays like last week.
True. All three deep mids are in yellow trouble though it looks like....and they typically use two, right Mjolnirs?

They usually run a 4-5-1 which is really a 4-2-3-1. 2 of the 4 are on yellows and 2 of the 2 are.

The only changes for Bayern are Mandzukic for Gomez, as expected, and Van Buyten for Dante. I think putting the 6 foot 6 defender in is a good idea with the height difference between the squads.

Neuer - Lahm, Boateng, Van Buyten, Alaba - Martínez, Schweinsteiger - Robben, Müller, Ribéry - Mandzukic

I know it's pretty low hanging fruit by this point, but damn this announcing team is awful

If I was playing a drinking game where I drank everytime Ian Wright said "width," I'd be dead

They've been awful, but in fairness there really hasn't been anything to talk about. Not a lot of tactical insight to provide when Barca is this masturbatory.

Domination.
The scoreline looks bad, but Bayern only won because they played anti-football. We know this is true because Barca dominated possession and Xavi completed 287 passes.
You won't hear me or many Barcelona fans complain about being outplayed by a better squad. They were exposed at many positions; Bayern didn't have to resort to leaving ten men on defense playing negatively to win.

But, hey, enjoy the Europa League! :bye:

Look, Chelsea is only 20 points behind the (relatively thrifty) Man United, after spending the GDP of Croatia on transfers. That's not bad!

I don't think a healthy Barcelona would've had much of a chance against this Bayern team. They are a juggernaut. Even with Robben, which makes what they've done all the more impressive.

If they had to go out, I'm glad they got destroyed. Their issues in the back that have been papered over the last couple years will, hopefully, be addressed.

Toothless attack. Not on the same page. Look like they'd be happier saving some face than taking risks.
Only way to save face is to score some goals I think.
Some, yes. That was my point. They didn't play like they wanted 5. They played like they'd be happy with 2-1 and than blame circumstance. The had no desperation, yet they looked desperate. There was no cohesion whosoever on the attack. And how bad where those subs? I'll answer: They were terrible. But we shouldn't even be talking about that. The starting lineup was a white towel. Cesc in for Messi = 5-0.

Messi is a great false 9; Barcelona plays great withe Messi as a false 9; Barcelona sucks trying to play a false 9 without Messi. This was the wrong gameplan from end-to-end. Sure, they had injuries and suspensions to deal with, but that doesn't mean Cesc should play center forward and Sanchez should be subbed in before Tello. When you need 5, how about playing with 3 back? How about playing with some confidence? Their play today was disgusting.

It's gracious of you to concede that Bayern were the better team after what we've all seen the past two weeks, but funny that you can find a way to criticize Chelsea's successful defensive tactics of last year when Barca has just lost the most lopsided semi-final tie in Champion's League history. Perhaps they should consider a bit of defending next time.

When you're playing FC Basel on May 2nd, that's a good sign that your season has gone off the rails. Its been a mostly terrible season for Chelsea with lots of lows and only a few highs, but has been mostly entertaining, still with something important to play for these last few weeks, and good reason to be hopeful for the future.

Sure. When you have a maniac billionaire who's willing to spend unlimited amounts of money on transfers, what's not to be hopeful about?

The false 9 is a failed approach against top competition, even with Messi.

Biggest problem is a back-line and manager that isn't healthy. They never recovered from Tito's absence and were a different team ever since.
