Rumors of a replacement for Falcao: Osvaldo (Argentina) or Leandro Damiao (Brazil). I know nothing of these guys. Edumacate me.

Atletico always seem to have top quality strikers and replace them with top quality strikers. Fernando Torres, Diego Forlan, Aguero and Falcao are/were all world class players. I don't think Osvaldo is of the same ilk, but he will do a solid job and chip in with 15-20 goals a season.
I have no idea about Damiao but it looks like he has a lot more potential.

Anyone else's channel guide say that the US game is on ESPN2 and not ESPN? I DVR'd the wrong channel...just got home and I've missed the first half. First world problems. <_<

It was like men against boys out there.
For the US it- as it often does against good teams- comes down to poor first touch and lack of commitment to getting consistent decent spacing on BOTH sides of the ball. They work hard to get their shape defenisvely, but then stand around when movnig the ball forward. Either they're afraid of losing the defensive shape or they just don't see the space... either way- for a friendly it's pretty shoddy. And then very few guys anticipate the second or third ball (Jones and Dempsey do)- so even if the first run is made, nobody's following up and making the second run and/or moving forward as a unit to maintain the spacing for possession. Ugh.
You look forward of the ball on the TV screen for both teams in possession- the US looks like they have 1 guy surrounded by 4, while the Belgians look like they have equal numbers, but consistently find the seams and find the runners on the first, second and third pass. Oh yeah- they also don't pop the ball up to their chin with their first touch.
I thought Jozy actually made some decent, but subtle runs finding seams between defenders in useful attacking positions but was never seen on those runs. Cameron and Zusi were particularly blind to them. Zusi's touch was off all night, which led to some rushed decision making on his part- never a good thing against quality opposition. He did work hard and got himself forward well, particuarly on the weak side. I preferred Davis on the night- who worked hard, had a decent touch and looked eager to get forward.
Other guys...
Gonzalez made some mistakes, whatever. My main problem with him is his distribution, which is just not up to Nat level.
Sascha put in yet another inconsistent shift.

Boyd comes in and just can't find the game in his entire shift. EJ comes in and finds the game right away (granted, playing in the MF vs up front). Good stuff from EJ- holds the ball up better than anybody else on the team and gets himself in good positions.
eta: oh yeah, soooo great to Holden in there. would have liked to see him get 20 minutes instead of 10, but he won some balls, got stuck in, made a few passes... here's hoping he keeps progressing back to his old form

By the way... this whole "ball to hand/hand to ball" nonsense bugs me- It's not about intent.
If your hand/arm is out away from your body and the ball hits it- hand ball. If your hand is in close or tight to your body and the ball hits it- no hand ball. I don't care what the intent of the hand is. It's not the letter definition of the call, but that's how I see it and play it.

I did not see the game, but am curious how De Bruyne looked. I saw from the highlights he was active in at least one of the goals. Also, any word on Hazard the younger (Thorgen)? It looks like he came on for Lukaku late in the game. Ugly game for the US from what I'm reading, and that's without Courtois, E. Hazard or Witsel playing for the Belsh.

I dont know that this will go through until Mourinho rejoins the team. In fact Id be surprised if the deal transpires at all, despite all the comments from Leverkusen. How can they expect to ratify a transfer when Chelsea still doesnt have an official coach?

For every article saying that a deal is already reached, and that he wants to move, are two saying that he loves Liverpool and wants to stay. I've learned not to get too invested one way or the other until something is official. Right now, I tend to believe he will be staying, but if he does go, I hope it's for a fortune.

Nothing is official until the ink is dry, which can't happen until the window opens July 1, but teams can and do make "official" announcements now. I personally don't believe anything this time of year unless it is directly attributed to a club official, which is the case with this Schurrle transaction (I think).
