Lamela seems like better value than Willian. He's younger and was more productive last season in a better league.I'm not really sure, but I'm still also stunned/amused that Chelsea jumped in at the last second to buy a good but overpriced player like Willian when they don't really need a winger. So reading about the Tottenham Hotspur transfer rumors and it looks like they got Lamela for £30M. Good player? I know they didn't get Willian so is Lamela a good consolation?
A name that's not mentioned but who I thought was pretty good when Chelsea signed him a year ago is Marko Marin. He plays the left wing. He sort of disappeared at Chelsea, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything given that club.Lamela seems like better value than Willian. Probably neither of them are coming at great value because Spurs aren't in a good haggling position. They've got money to spend and need a strong Bale replacement ASAP.
The FM player in me keeps shouting "Work ball into box" at the TV. So many wasteful shots in this match.
Ref has been brutal in this match today.the ref's have been pretty bad from what I have seen so far.
I think it's been decent.Ref has been brutal in this match today.the ref's have been pretty bad from what I have seen so far.
United denied a clear penalty on a hand ball in the box.
And then Cole with a dive in the box, should have been given a card for embellishment for certain.

I think the non-call on Lampard's hand ball was correct. He was twisting out of the way and it was his back arm, which was far closer to his body than being extended.
I agree that Cole should have been booked though. That dive was blatant.
The only other non-call I would dispute was Rooney's late, flying tackle in the first half that brought Oscar down.
Most American fans of a European team follow a highly successful/Champions League-caliber team, you don't run into many people in the States who support Norwich or Getafe.I was a little afraid of being a bandwagon jumper but I figured choosing a 4th place team criticized for not doing anything to improve the squad isn't exactly like becoming a Steelers fan in the '70s.

I just enjoy the banter, but I also love it when Arsenal fans act like it doesn't bother them.I love it when Liverpool people argue this.If you like empty trophy cases, root for Arsenal. If you like diving, root for Liverpool. They've got Suarez.i like running diving headers![]()

You're just going off of what was officially awarded. It's not over yet.Shortest amount of extra time at old trafford in 26 years
What gets me about that is Chelsea made a late substituion during injury time. The clock should basically stop at that point - no surprise that stoppage time went a minute extraYou're just going off of what was officially awarded. :haha:It is United's first goalless draw at home in the league since 16 May 2009, a run of 76 matches with a goal comes to an end - at David Moyes's first attempt.

Not really a consolation. They are different types of players. Tottenham was always in for Lamala. So reading about the Tottenham Hotspur transfer rumors and it looks like they got Lamela for £30M. Good player? I know they didn't get Willian so is Lamela a good consolation?

That would be a deal-breaker.Chelsea wanted Hulk last year and they're still looking for a striker, so that'll be interesting too.Not really a consolation. They are different types of players. Willian is more experienced and a more creative player at this point in his career. Lamela is a much bigger goal scorer, but will likely require more time to develop his creative side (he's only 21). Spurs are also looking into Hulk from what I understand. It will be interesting to see if Hulk can force a transfer at Tottenham's lower valuation.
You sure? Someone tweeted earlier he was in the starting lineup.Meanwhile...Iker sits again.![]()

I've actually been pretty encouraged by what I have seen from the Spurs so far - given what the team is going though with Bale. They seem to have real control of the midfield, and they are creating decent scoring chances. I think they have a real good shot at a top-4 finish, and enough depth to compete in Europa and the domestic cups.I know Spurs brought in a lot of 'talent', but I'm not sold on them at all. Only two goals so far this year have been from the spot, and this is against bottom dwellars (I think Swans supporters will be sorely disappointed this year if expect them to be in top-10). If they bring in Lamela I think that will be huge...but I see a lot of incohesion upfront. That being said, their defense has looked pretty solid this year so far, but again, let's see what happens against better competition.
My wife's looks a little like Kenwyne Jones.Edit sorry, didn't see the "ex" - never mind.Just occurred to me that my girlfriend's azzhole ex looks a lot like John Terry. Just one more reason to detest him.![]()
When researching for fantasy footie, I was struck by the stark difference between United's GA when Vidic was on the pitch. I think it was like 0.7 when he played, and 1.2 when he didn't.It wasn't a Stoke-Sunderland 0-0 but would have liked both sides to attack more. United miss Rafael - he's becoming a difference maker and Jones has a horrible touch and can't cross worth ####.
Underrated is United's CB pairing. If it wasn't for Welbeck's idiotic dribbling against Swansea they'd start the season with 2 clean sheets against 2 pretty good attacks. Rio and Vidic may be a little long in the tooth but I think I'd take that pair over any other pair in the league.
Mata not playing was a shock. He must be hurt, or something's up. I also expected to see Kagawa. Those two might've made a better game of it. I don't think Cech had a save until the 80th min or so, and de Gea was only mildly inconvenienced once or twice. Terry was MOTM for me.They coulda put 10 minutes added, no goals were coming in this one.
Decent game, with City losing yesterday, draw was certainly a huge possibility. Would have liked to have seen United get the three points, but happy enough to see Rooney play all 90....and hoping he is still on the team come September 3rd.
Very interesting to see a) no Mata and b) no striker for Chelsea
I thought the midfield for Chelsea would have more success against United's midfield (carrick slow, Cleverly inexperienced) and defense (Jones, disaster, Rio/Vidic not exactly fleet of foot), but United did well in that regard. Welbeck was underwhelming.
Disagree that the Lampard pk shouldn't have been called. Hand was well away from his body, don't care if he was spinning or not, it was not ball from body to hand, it was clear hand.
Stronger referee would have handled a number of incidents differently in this game. The ref has a job to do, do it. My opinion of the refereeing has not been limited to one game, it's been a number of games all over Europe. I guess it's still early in the year for the refs too.
So they were practicing their strategy for the match against Bayern?Chelsea are playing WAY back.![]()
