Just read that a german paper repored that Alexander Hleb has as good as signed with Bayern München.
about two possible transfers to Bayern:- Hleb denied this a week ago and it became very quiet. So thisone might be dead.- Stuttgart and Bayern are now holding a meeting about a possible transfer of Mario Gomez to München. stuttgart would get a boatload of money for him, but it is questionable what they would get on the market.

My brackets before the tournament had Germany beating Portugal in this round and Croatia in the semis then Italy in the finals.

Germany has not looked great, but they seem to find ways to win.

Germany over Portugal

Croatia over Turkey

Holland over Russia

Spain over Italy

Germany over Croatia

Holland over Spain

Germany over Holland in a what would be a great final.

That sucks on both counts.

Germany was my pre-tournament pick to win it....we'll see....

Not if he stays with Arsenal! :lmao:And Munich still wants Gomez after the way this tournament has gone thus far?

Wow....this is my exact bracket, EXCEPT Italy over Spain. Espana has no heart. Italia will beat them.

I have it exactly the same.

Seriously. Plus, they're already crowded up front. I don't get it.They need to get younger in the midfield.

Only 4 teams have a shot at winning this tourney IMO:

In order of likelihood:

Holland

Portugal

Spain

Italy

Spain and Italy have the toughest row to hoe here, having to go through all the others to win this thing. Portugal on the other hand have the easiest, only having to face one of the other three in the finals. Holland however has looked the most dominant, and are clicking on all cylinders.

Many of my predictions have come true, namely that Holland, Spain, and Italy were my highest rated teams and that France would fail.

Going to have to strongly disagree with you.In a knockout tournament like this, you can't eliminate many teams from consideration......and the fact you neglected to add Germany and Croatia as teams that have a shot, well, that's just silly.I'd be willing to bet that most people didn't give Greece much of a shot at the beginning of the tournament, or the knockout stage.

Greece was a fluke IMO, and besides they came out smoking hot in the group stage 4 years ago. Only 3 teams have come out looking good: Portugal, Spain, and Holland. Croatia has played well, but I don't think they have what it takes in terms of talent or team play. Germany has been lackluster at best, and I don't see them getting past Portugal today.

Podolski starting for Gomez

Rolfes in place of injured Frings

I think Klose gets untracked this game and scores

Germany wins

Germany

Croatia

Russia

Italy

Germany beats Italy in the final

Germany is way too tall for Portugual. 2-0!

Very nice aggressive attacking by Germany. Really running at the Portuguese defense and earning that free kick.

Oh and Andy Gray is AWESOME.
Very very  I am pleased Germany is moving on, the game against Portugal will be a clash of styles. The Germans still looked slow and are going to have to pick up the pace. I see Gomez on the bench and maybe Kuranyi getting a start. I also can see Schweinsteiger getting a start. Now we have to wait and see if Löw is allowed on the bench.
I just read that Podolski and Frings are doubtful for the Portugal match. This is really going to put a hurt on the German attack. Schweinsteiger has to start, no? And the way Gomez has been playing, well, that's just no good. However, I wouldn't be surprised to see Gomez start again. I think the Germans will need to play a very conservative match to have any sort of chance against the Portugese. Keep a lot of guys back and rely on Klose, Kuranyi and Gomez on set pieces. Kuranyi and Gomez will have a significant height advantage, each being about 6'3" and Klose plays well in too. Another Ballack rocket may get us through  :towelwave:Not feeling real keen with Lehman though, should Portugal get their attack going.
:towelwave: :towelwave:Let's do this GERMANY!!!

Ronaldo was the one that didn't mark on the 2nd goal. And this is why teams like Portugal, Spain, and Holland always look great and then fail. They don't generally play the type of defense necessary. I cannot fathom how you can have a guy like Ronaldo trying to mark Klose on set pieces.

dangnamit, wtf did I come to work this afternoon :hot: :hot:Hold on Germany, for the love of God, hold this lead.
They finally put Gomez on the bench and started Schweinstager, and they look like a different team. They better D-up a little better on Ronaldo in the 2nd. He was starting to get going at the end there.

If anyone knows of a place to watch today's game online, I would greatly appreciate it.
if you missed the game and want to watch it go to espn360.com. it will be available there for several days.i missed out on the bracket and i would have had portugal beating germany.as for the rest:croatia d. turkeynetherlands d. russiaspain d. italysince germany is through i'll go:germany d. croatiaholland d. spainfinalholland d. germanygood match today. i thought the germans did an effective job at limiting ronaldo.

Watching the game on DVR and I'm wondering why the ref let Germany get away with so much. I'm not really a fan of either team, but the Germans were all over Portugal. Space for Ballack's goal was created with a ful two hand chuck to the back. Lahm and Metzelder looked like they were playing Rugby out there. You have to draw the line somewhere.

Are you serious? Ballack definitely pushed off to create space but it was by no means a "full two hand chuck" as you describe it.

Yeah it was. Pretty easy to see in the replays. Didn't look as bad at full speed, but you can see how hard he hit him with the DVR. He doesn't even touch that ball without the push-off. You a German fan?

Look at the timestamp on jonessed's post. Very cool.

Ahh... looks like he is from Munich. Didn't notice that until you made the timestamp comment.

I suppose it wouldn't be totally outrageous for that to be called, but it's a given that some pushing and shoving will go on on set pieces. It's not like pushed him to the ground. I thought the game was officiated pretty well. Much better than some of the disasters the refs have rolled out this tournament.

2 hand chuck? You gotta be kidding me. Sure Ballack gave a push but that sort of thing happens all the time on set pieces, it could have been called but it rarely does. And the guy who was covering Ballack was Ferreria, probably the worst player on the field. Lahm definitely wasn't playing rugby out there, if he did he would be thrown around since hes something liek 5'6 160. That Swedish ref probably has done the best job of any of the refs in the tourney. He was good in the Italian/Dutch game as well.

Great minds and all that :thumbup:Germany looked good today. But, just as in the Poland match they had a 30 minute stretch in the middle of the game where they looked flat. Now I can breath again.

Pushing and pulling jerseys happens. Pushing off with two hands in the back as the ball arrives does not happen all the time. He gave himself a good yard of separation. I can't imagine it wouldn't have been called if the ref had seen it. I didn't realize there were so many Germany fans around here.

I wasn't cheering for Germany. I had no allegiances for that game, but i said Portugal was going to win the game so if anything i was cheering for them a bit. The Portugese defender Ferreira was already out of position.

If you pause the above video at 47 seconds, you see Ferreira was already a foot in front of Ballack before Ballack even did the push.

The push certainly didn't give Ballack "a good yard of separation." Maybe an extra few inches.

I have it on HD DVR which is much clearer. Ballack does not get his head on that ball without the push. It gave him a good yard to work with.

I thought Ballack's goal was a good no-call, but will admit my bias as a long-time fan of German football.

The goat was Ricardo morseo than Ferreira in my opinion.

This was also an interesting game for me as a long-time Chelsea supporter, with Ballack having a great game against teamates Carvahlo, Ferreira, Boswinga, and Scolari (and Deco?). Also noticed Real Madrid teamates Metzelder and Pepe going after each other a few times and then having a congrats/condolences moment after the game.

IMO Balacks push befor his goal gave him enough additional seperation, so the goal shouldn´t have counted. But thats just my opinion.

Overall I realy enjoyed the game, Schweinsteiger and Lahm were both excelent.

I would like to see a rematch between Germany and Croatia, maybe Germany has learned from its errors during the first game. Would be a interesting comparison

Bocanegra signs with Rennes

Rennes have signed USA defender Carlos Bocanegra on a free transfer following his release from Fulham last month.

The 29-year-old has penned a three-year deal with Guy Lacombe's men, according to Le'Equipe.

Bocanegra, the USA captain, made 116 starts for Fulham in a four-year stay but was not offered a new contract by Roy Hodgson despite playing a part in the club's escape from relegation.

The capture of Bocanegra means that Djimi Traore, who was on loan at Rennes last season, will return to Portsmouth.
