WoW what a score in extra time in the 2nd period of OT. Incredible. The Croatian coach was saying no ET but I thought they should have.

Excellent game so far. PKs' here we come.

Crazy.

Turks heve been a team of ups and downs. Looking great some times, looking terrible in others.

I can't wait to see the extra time to this game.

I also think it's great that the Turks in Germany will finally have their vengeance. There's over 2.5 million of them, or about 3% of the german population. if they win I'll go buy the first Döner kebab that I can find.

Croatia looked miserably flat on those PK's. Never understood shooting at the corners, always was taught high and center.
I was always taught (and passed it on as a coach) bottom back post. Since these nets dont have a back post its actually bottom back corner. On the floor is the most difficult place for a keeper to stop and that corner leaves you some margin for error. High and center often results in over the bar. With keepers getting bigger and better hands, the high stuff is easier for them to handle.I often went down the middle since most keepers in my day tried to guess and often dove before the kick. Even a good friend of mine who know i loved going down the middle jumped to soon and dove out of the way.****Saw the first half. Turkey had possesion but Croatia had the better chances. Missed the rest but I did see the PKs. I havent seen PKs that bad since John Terry!! :) Ok that was harsh, these were worse. What a horrible display by Croatia. A Clinic in what not to do.

:) I didn't just put it in the middle, I absolutely slammed it in the middle. A) it's the easiest place to not miss the net if you're aiming at the middle, and B) if the goalie doesn't jump that much, you still may get it by him by drilling it.

Anyway, I'm 0-2 so far in the quarters, but I'm in Germany through next week so it should be a blast leading up to Wednesday.

Better park you car in the garage Wednesday nite.

Tonight should be a very attractive game. I think there will be a lot of scoring, something like 3-2 for the Netherlands, who should be able to beat Russia, but I think our D will get tested in a way they haven't been tested yet so far in the tournament.

I'm still sticking with my Germany vs Italy prediction for the final.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Staying out of Nuremberg too, since the main minority there is Turkish. Could get ugly.

MMMMM......Doner Kebab....haven't had a good one in a few years since the last time I was in London....

What a bizarre ending there. Yellow card! Oh wait, I already booked him? Let me go over to the linesman and pretend to discuss it so I can change my mind quick and I don't decide this game.

that was weird. ball never went out of bounds and the Dutch had the ball and advantage when the whistle was blown. But, there wasn't a foul either so the yellow/red would have certainly been a bigger mistake to make.

at least the best decision was made. The Russian player didn't deserve a yellow card, and the ball was cleared by the Russians anyways.

the Dutch looked bad. In the first 3 matches they dominated the possession and would move the ball up through tonnes of passes. Not sure why they changed the gameplan for this game.

Props to Russia. Arshavin is gonna get a major pay day after this tourney.

Yup. The kid looked amazing. He and Paylichenko (sp?) the big striker are moving on to other leagues I think.Russia deserved to win this match. If not for Ruud scoring that diving header, they got outplayed in nearly every aspect (well as from Van der Saar, who put in some fantastic saves).Russia obviously posed some challenging match ups for Holland with their counter attacking style and quickness up top. The marking by the Dutch defenders was woeful, and the Russian skill on the ball was fun to watch.Major props to Russia for a win. A thoroughly enjoyable game to watch today. Let's hope that continues tomorrow.¡Viva la roja!

I sure picked the wrong day to start Van der Sar in goal.

Beginning to look like clinching your group early and resting your players in the third match is not so good a strategy.

Is Spain next?

By the way, can we keep these games off of ABC?

At least on ESPN I don't have to deal with a ticker across the top of the screen telling me it is storming, a window insert of radar showing me where it is storming and the interruption of the game so some talking head can tell me what the ticker and the insert are saying! :fishing:

No problems with the ABC coverage with the exception that the announcers are forced to pimp other shows that they have no clue about whatsoever.

Besides, it's high 90s here in the Bay Area... about 15-20 degrees above normal. No storms to cool us down.

I always root for Holland because I like their attacking style. But I'm not real surprised with this result. Russia is a different team with Arshavin in the game and he and Pavlyuchenko created too many chances today. Holland lacks organization at the back and it showed. Last two games have been epic. Looking forward to Spain-Italy.

I really questioned the blow to momentum and teamwork that would be created by sitting 9 or 10 players per team. I understand sitting guys on yellow cards, but clearly it affects your team to sit out that many.

The Dutch looked nothing like the team that won its first three games easily. Props to Russia for the gameplan to take them out of it, but ... it leaves questions unanswered.

ABC must really be hoping for that Turkey-Russia final next Sunday. LOL. Germany against Italy or Spain is where it needs to go.

I think if I was a Chelsea fan I'd rather have Guus Hiddink instead of Scolari
His name was in the mix last year and again this year - I think I noted earlier in this thread that Abramovich already essentially pays Hiddink's salary. I would have been happy with Guus but it was not to be.Regarding Arshavin, I'm not so sure he'll move anytime soon. He plays for Zenit St. Petersburg, the reigning Ueafa Cup holder and Russian League champion and they have a ton of money (from Gazprom). The Russian league is really progressing - doing more importing than exporting of players in recent years and could soon be a solid tier 2 football league.

I'll be shocked if Italy dosn't win tomorrow. It's a Spanish tradition to score a bunch in their first game, cruise to the knock out stage and then lose.

You still live somewhere where there are storms?
