Pretty exciting. Still so much that needs to happen, but I'm taking this silver lining for losing the NFL. Sports radio with just the Padres (I hate baseball) is going to be weird.

And as an added soccer tie in, Adam Schefter is reporting that the Chargers may play at the Stub Hub Center until they find a more permanent residence.

Twellman thinks this is going to vault San Diego up the expansion priority list.

It's going to look so bad to see an NFL team not filling up stub hub.

The last update on MLS to San Diego had a direct quote that the NFL leaving would make the market appealing. I also love the mixed use sdsu plan.

What a horrible day.  Schneiderlin officially sold to Everton.  Chargers announce move to LA and rip off Dodgers logo.  United trigger 1 year extension on the big tree.

My only hope is that the extension is to give them some leverage in selling the fro either this month or instead of letting him walk away for free when it expires in the summer.

i can dream right?

Interesting look.

Looks like Schneid will recoup 22 of the 24mill and with the escalators could end up being a wash.

Ángel Di María (£59m)  - sad it didnt work.  Should have been better, could have stayed to fight for a spot.  Havent seen PSG lately but it doesnt sound like he is doing well there either this season.
Anthony Martial (£35m) - Should lock down the left wing and be a good signing.  He needs to play, hes part of the best XI
Luke Shaw (£26m) - Potential still.  Plays the only Position I would say still needs someone to own it.
Memphis Depay (£25m) - lost his way.  Should go on loan or at least have a buy back option.  Full of potential if he gets his head on straight.
Herrera (£29m) - Coming good.
Schneiderlin (£24m) - Wash.  Should be there over Fellaini
Marcos Rojo (£14m) - Earning it now but may be short timer
Schweinsteiger (£14m) - Sadly a loss.  Injuries, manager change.  Still a better option then Fellaini
Daley Blind (£12.5m) - Has been worth his price.  Would like to see him get a shot at being heir to Carrick
Matteo Darmian (£12m) - Up and down.  Not sure where his future holds
Radamel Falcao - HAHAHAHHAHA was bad for United and Chelsea.  Hes back where he belongs and seems to be doing well.
Víctor Valdés - yeah.
Sergio Romero - Excellent backup to De Gea.  Has been good when called upon.  Surprising noone has come calling for him (that we know of).

How about Moyes' signing? I'd say 50% as well with Mata being the good and Fellaini being bad.

It is odd that after 2 + decades of MLS teams paying rent to NFL teams that an NFL team will be paying rent to an MLS team.

The added revenue will probably be needed for LA as the competition for the sports dollar in LA only gets harder with an NFL team and a new MLS team coming into their area.

And guys, let me address my Marouane Fellaini "hate".

Overall he isn't a bad player.  He has had some decent games for United.  He seemed to be a good fit at Everton and is part of a good Belgium National Team.

However, he does not fit at United.  He speed with the ball is slow and he lacks vision.  He appears to not know where he wants to go with it before he gets it and often has to recieve the ball, look up and decide where to pass.  He can not run a counter with pace and he is often a foul waiting to happen.  He may have been good in the air at Everton but his tenure at United shows a lack of ability to attack the ball or do anything but let it hit him in the head.  Contrast that with Ibra who goes up and gets the ball and you will see how bad Fellaini is in the air.  Fellaini wins 30% of his aerial duels.  For someone that is taller then the majority on the pitch this is unacceptable.  And even the ones he does win don't usually go to his teammates.  His best move is the chest trap, which he does better then most.  BUT he is 50/50 on whether or not the next touch/pass will keep the ball.  Defensively he lets people run right by him (when not fouling them) and can get beat easily by anyone with pace (see City game early in the season).

For a team like United he does not fit.  He has a place and I am sure there are teams that he would be a good fit and he would do very well for.  United isn't one of them.  I can not for the life of me understand why he is constantly sent on over Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, Blind, Mata and until recently Herrera.

Nice for the Galaxy but can't imagine this will do well for the pitch either.  Never really looked good to me anyway, now add an NFL team?

I agree.  Some of the revenue will likely go into multiple replacements of the pitch over the two year period.

I think the MLS schedule comes out today.  It will be interesting to see how they handled this.  LA is typically on national tv a lot and those games are on Sunday which might cause some conflicts with the Chargers.

good pickup, andy. the blurb said he had been signed as A coach... I read it as coach.

Yeah, Paul Clement was named the head coach. manager.

Swans picked up Luciano Narsingh, a prolific chance creator in the Eredivisie, on the transfer market.  Don't think he can play CB though.

MLS Schedule is out for 2017.  Here is how the TV breaks down per station.  Atlanta has the second largest amount of national tv games behind only LA.

2017 MLS national TV game totals:

ESPN 28 (all on ESPN Deportes)

ESPN2 3 (all on ESPN Deportes)

Fox 4 (all on Fox Deportes)

FS1 29 (all on Fox Deportes)

Univision 6

UniMás 18

Galaxy spokesman: All scheduling, events at StubHub "will remain Galaxy priority...The NFL and the Chargers will work around our schedule."

Speaking of the Eredevisie, is there such an animal as a non-prolific chance creator in that league?  Not much profligacy! going on there....

@Sinn Fein...Fazio made the "All Serie A" team (at CB) for the 1st half of the season.  He has been an immense revelation; reborn in Serie A.

@The Gator...JuveMerda are courting Lallana...if this comes to pass, "God is Dead", surely.

You know our boy Lamela is in Roma right now - they are helping to treat him for a hip injury.

We may have another connection soon - rumors that Sabatini will become the next director of football for Spurs - not sure where this is in the rumor stage.  Apparently he was spotted in London recently, and Spurs head of recruiting is leaving.

Hmmmm...Seems like a fair trade...since Sab brought Lamela to Roma, it's only fair that he returns him.  Yes?

8 home games. 1 will be a Thursday. Another I bet will either be in Mexico city or England. Maybe both. Monday is an option as well. Not a big deal. Staples center hosts the Lakers, Clippers, and Kings. Those logistics are fascinating to me.

The Chargers need to totally have David Beckham throw out the first extra point.

The Thursday game would be interesting.  I think the school has a rule that no more than 15k are allowed in stadium during the week during the school year.  The Galaxy have run into this rule a few times over the years for CCL games they have hosted.  The Chargers will have to get a waiver for this rule I think.

I don't know if I can fathom watching Patrice Evra with freakin' Palace.
HE LOVES THIS GAME!  But yeah, seeing him at Palace would be sad.  Not sure hes still got it enough for United but reportedly they inquired.

I don't care to read another Trump thread, so will ask in here - has he said what he's going to do with the FIFA investigation?
Depends on how much $$ he made off FIFA?

let us know what you finally do.  Were you hoping to get this done as an xmas gift?

One thing that may be worth exploring is to just give the Philly ticket office a quick call and explain your situation.  They might easily be able to guide you in the right direction for your specific circumstances.
Not an xmas gift,we've just talked about it off/on for a while now.  We went to a few games this year and fell in love with the whole experience.  She came from a very non-sports family, so seeing her get this into it has been pretty damn cool.   I've been casually watching the seat selection dwindling down which is making my trigger finger itch.  I still have a really hard time believing they've sold 80%+

Talking this out made me reach out to their support folks....

They've got some sort of partnership with StubHub where season ticket holders can sell tickets on the secondary market.  They also have an exchange program that allows you to swap tickets from a game you cannot attend and load them on to another game.
So they're definitely throttling the full season tickets... The partial game packages are out now and I'm showing seats available for the partial that aren't available for the full.

We bought a 5 game plan and chose games against NYRB, Toronto, Colorado, Seattle, and Portland. :towelwave:

The kids are especially excited to see the USMNT boys.

andy mentioned this upthread- was clearing out my spam folder and found this in there from 3 days ago. don't remember if it was official in the previous discussion:

Dear Columbia Men's Soccer Family.

It is with great pride and pleasure to share the official annoucement of Rocco B. Commisso as the owner of the infamous NY Cosmos.

Cable Television Entrepreneur Rocco B. Commisso Acquires Controlling Interest in New York Cosmos

NEW YORK (January 10, 2017) - The New York Cosmos announced today that Rocco B. Commisso has purchased a majority ownership stake in the legendary soccer club and will become its new Chairman.

Commisso is the Chairman and CEO of Mediacom Communications Corporation, a company he founded in 1995 to acquire and reinvigorate cable systems in the nation’s underserved smaller communities. In 2000, he directed a successful initial public offering for Mediacom, paving the way for the company’s dramatic growth into the nation’s 5th largest cable television provider, with 4,600 employees serving over 1.3 million customers in 22 states. He took the company private in 2011, and now Mediacom, with annual revenues in excess of $1.8 billion, is wholly-owned by Commisso and his family.

Like so many of our fantastic fans, I have followed the Cosmos since the fabulous days of Pelé, Chinaglia, Alberto, and Beckenbauer,” said Rocco Commisso. “With my deep roots in the New York City area as a former player, youth coach, and proud supporter of the Columbia University soccer program, I look forward to building on the rich history of America’s most iconic soccer club.”

As defending champions of the NASL, the Cosmos will return to the field in 2017 with head coach Giovanni Savarese at the helm. “Cosmos fans deserve a world class experience,” said Savarese. “I am thrilled Rocco is giving me the opportunity to continue as head coach to pursue our fourth championship in five years.”

“We’ve worked hard to secure a positive future for the club and Rocco is the perfect person to lead the continued renaissance,” said Seamus O’Brien, outgoing Chairman of the Cosmos ownership group. “He is not only extremely knowledgeable about the beautiful game as it is played worldwide, but brings extensive entrepreneurial experience in the media and communications business to the organization.”

Born in Calabria, Italy, Commisso immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 12, graduating from Mount Saint Michael Academy in the Bronx in 1967. He attended Columbia University earning both a BS degree in Industrial Engineering and a MBA degree from its Graduate Business School.

Commisso played soccer for the Columbia Lions from 1967 to 1970. He was a member of a freshman squad that finished with an undefeated record and served as Co-Captain of the 1970 team that made Columbia’s first ever appearance in the NCAA Playoffs. A three-time All-Ivy League Honoree, Commisso was invited to try-out for the U.S. Soccer Team organized for the 1972 Olympics.

Commisso has been an active alumni contributor to Columbia soccer for over 40 years. In the mid-1970’s, he co- founded Friends of Columbia Soccer and, from 1978 to 1986, he was its Chairman. In 2013, Columbia recognized his contributions to the university by naming its soccer venue at the school’s Baker Athletics Complex as the Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium. In 2015, the NYC Soccer Gala honored Commisso for his lifetime dedication to the game of soccer. This past October, Commisso was enshrined in the 2016 Class of the Columbia Athletics Hall of Fame.

About the Cosmos

The New York Cosmos are reigning champions of the North American Soccer League (NASL), having won their second consecutive NASL Championship and eighth overall on Nov. 13, 2016, with a 4-2 win on penalties over the Indy Eleven in The Championship Final.

The Cosmos began play in 1971, spending 14 seasons in the NASL, winning five league championships. During this time, the club brought some of the biggest names in world soccer to the USA including Pelé, Franz Beckenbauer, Giorgio Chinaglia and Carlos Alberto.

The Cosmos returned to NASL competition on Aug. 3, 2013, winning the championship in their first season back in the league. Raúl and Marcos Senna, legends at famed Spanish sides Real Madrid and Villarreal CF, each suited up in Cosmos colors for modern era championship runs, adding their names to the impressive list of global soccer stars who played with the club.

We wish all the best to Rocco and the NY Cosmos organization.

When & Where

Rounds 1 and 2 of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft will take place on Friday, January 13 starting at 3 pm ET. The draft will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, California. Fans can attend the SuperDraft free of charge.

Rounds 3 and 4 of the SuperDraft will take place via conference call on Tuesday, January 17 at a time to be determined.

Streaming & Tracking Picks

SuperDraft will be streamed on MLSsoccer.com starting at 3 pm ET (Noon PT), where you can see all the draft picks as they are announced. Also, you can use our draft tracker to follow picks by round, team or position.

Players Available

The majority of draft prospects are NCAA college seniors who have exhausted their college eligibility. Generation adidas players and non-collegiate international players are also eligible for selection in the SuperDraft. Clubs may nominate players for the League's Draft-Eligible List, and only players from that list may be selected.

Many of the players that will be selected have partcipated in the adidas MLS Player Combine, which took place at the StubHub Center in Carson, California from January 8-12.

Mock Drafts & Player Analysis

If you want to learn more about the players available, you can check out the links below:

How The SuperDraft Works

There are four rounds in the SuperDraft, with each team entitled to one pick per round. The first pick is held by Minnesota United FC, while the second pick is held by Atlanta United FC, per the results of the Expansion Priority Draft on October 16, 2016. The following eight picks went to the teams that did not make the 2016 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs, going from lowest to highest regular season point total. The remaining positions were ranked by fewest regular season points among the teams that were eliminated in the same round of the playoffs.

Many of the selections have already changed hands via trades. View the updated draft order.

What Happens Next

Most picks will enter training camp with the clubs that drafted them but only about half of them will make an MLS roster.

A player who was drafted by a particular team through the SuperDraft and did not sign, is placed on that team's "College Protected List" until December 31st of the year after the draft, after which the team loses the MLS rights to the player.
