I am interested to see how Atlanta's large crop of South American's deal with the cold and snow predicted in Minnesota this weekend.  I have a feeling that is going to be the worst kind of culture shock for them.
I'm a little worried this will be Costa Rica in Colorado-esque. We should have Chris McCaan back who shouldn't be fazed by the cold.

Bayern beat Frankfurt today 3-0

Robert Lewandowski scored twice.

Now, how did you read that?  Did you say LeVandowski or did you say LeWandowski in your head?

I'm sure it's a minor point for everyone, but if you follow the sport you know it is pronounced with the "V" sound.
OK, maybe you don't.  But, if you are an announcer for Fox, Mark Rogondino, you should.

Did Moolah play?

Isn't it, if you know Teutonics, you know how to say it?

I am apolitical so don't read any more into this outside of what a mess.

Iran plays Iraq at home in an upcoming qualifier.

Justin Meram, player for the Crew, was born and lived whole life in US

Meram qualifies to play for Iraq via parentel lineage

Meram has represented Iraq 22 times.

He was called up for up coming qualifiers including game in Iran.

He has refused the callup despite Iraq being taken off the travel ban list and Justin being an American citizen himself.  He is both afraid from treatment in Iran for being American and for treatment in America for having travelled to Iran according to the FA press release.

American Sports Network ceased operations yesterday.  This affects both DC United and RSL as that company carried the local telecasts for those two teams.

It's funny how non-accepting many people are of soccer in this country.

I haven't said much to my dad about my soccer love in recent years.  He lives about 2 hours away, we are in a fantasy football league together and he thinks about the NFL nonstop.  He's become more and more obsessed as he ages.  He knows I like soccer but I've kept it low key.

I showed him the LIV-ARS goals the other day and he was all "oh wow look i can kick a ball, real hard" and in general just typical boorish behavior.

Yesterday I was talking to a guy I haven't seen in a number of years.  He's a typical American football fan and we all spent the dinner chatting football.  I brought up the subject of soccer and was looked at like I was trying to get him to join a cult.

I mean, what other sport faces such opposition and why?  I was at work in the cafeteria during the Euros watching one of the games.  It was 0-0, kind of a boring matchup.  Some redneck walks up and, talking to no one in general, just gives it the ol "what a stupid sport.  0-0, no one even scores!".  He actually looked angry about it.

It's strange to me, and I say that as someone who used to hate the game.  Why?  I don't know.  What is it about our culture that causes many to abhor the game?

To be fair, there is nothing but soccer fans here, and we pretty much react the same way every time you bring it up.

Since I'm by far and away the most sophisticated and learned member of my social circle, I have actually influenced one person to become a footy fan. Yes, that's right. One entire person.

I went to the San Diego Sockers playoff game yesterday. Indoor league. Over 6,000 in attendance. Real fun for $10. Honestly the main reason I ended up going was a celebrity halftime game featuring Donovan, Warren Barton, Shannon MacMillan, Rob Machado, an old school Sockers legend, and some local media people. So cool to see Landon, Barton, and MacMillan school everybody so easily. Barton was the MVP. Didn't let one ball get past him and distributed beautifully. Really a pleasure to watch.

Apparently no reason to worry. Ever. (when the opponent is MNUFC)

I think it would have been 12-0 without the snow. MNUFC fans should ask for a refund until the teams adds players. Gonna be a long season up there.

I suspect it's not the sport but his choice of teams that distresses them.

Its crazy this still happens.

Heck I've played for 35 years.  My sister has played for 32, even my mom has even been playing for 20 years.  But my Dad, who grew up on MLB and the NBA still makes offhand remarks about low scores.  Even refers to a 1-1 or 2-1 game as a "scoring orgy". But there is nothing like a pitchers duel in MLB!

Grew up watching the Sockers in their heydey (80s).  Played at halftime and before the games on occasion.  Which old school legends were there?

This is great.

Has MLS commented at all on the two 'fouls' that got Van Damme tossed?  I'm not sure either was a foul and neither was Twellman (I think it was him) from the booth.
The MLS Disciplianry Committee has issued an undisclosed fine to Portland Timbers midfielder Diego Chara after finding him guilty of simulation/embellishment during the 31st minute of the Timbers' match against the LA Galaxy on March 11 (above).

In addition, the MLS Disciplinary Committee did not take any action against Portland midfielder David Guzman in connection with a play in the 34th minute involving LA Galaxy defender Jelle Van Damme. The Disciplinary Committee could not unanimously determine whether Guzman engaged in an obvious act of simulation/embellishment or if he went to ground in an effort to avoid contact with Van Damme.

They should definitely rescind the yellow for the Chara tackle, if that's something MLS will do.  Shame that those two calls impacted the game so much.  Not that LA was going to win anyway.

Atletico v Leicester

Dortmund v Monaco

Bayern v Real

Juve v Barca
So we get what probably should be the final in the quarters.  Guess I shouldn't be upset with 2 games over 1.

Should be BOATLOADS of goals in the Dortmund-Monaco tie.

That would seem to be the best matchup for Leicester as well.  Should be low scoring with the second leg at home.
