i don't disagree with either of your assessments, but that's also the problem.LFC needs a 20+ goal guy, anything else and it will be another year of 4-7 placement. It sounds like the deal is done. I don't get why so many LFC fans are against Ings. He's 22, and he's super cheap. Who knew Harry Kane would do what he did. Sometimes these young strikers can explode. Ings had 10 goals on a pretty bad team. I know he won't be in a position at LFC to get 10 goals, as I see him as more of an end-of-game spark guy, or maybe a Europa league players, but I think Ings is a solid prospect.LFC is going to need to buy 2 more strikers, since Studge is out until October at least. I don't really rate Ings, and would prefer they not get him unless he's very cheap.![]()
I like Ings from what I've seen of him. Don't see him as a guy that's going to push any team into the "elite" stratosphere... right now. but I totally agree with your assessment. he works hard, has decent foot skills and is always finding dangerous spots in front of goal.
I think it's also a matter of going down this road before. Fabio Borini also got 10+ goals for Sunderland, but can't even sniff the bench for various reasons. Ings might be an exciting prospect, works hard, high energy etc etc, but the club needs an immediate contributor.
Does anyone have a price tag for him? If it's less than 10 mill, sure, it could be worth the gamble, but in that case they need to splash 30 mill or thereabouts for a proven commodity (not Benteke).
I am not comfortable going into 15/16 with:
Sturridge (out until Oct, and who knows if he will ever come back to the same level)
Origi (young and unproven, loads of potential)
Lambert (does not fit the system, old, but potential late minute sub)
Borini (surely he will be sold)
Balotelli (doesn't fit, hopefully sold)
Does anyone see 30+ goals from that lot?
With regards to Lacazette, I think he's going to be priced too high and go to a CL team, likely Arsenal or Man U if he comes to England.
and most teams need a guy like Gerrard.
, but he seems like he should be a perfectly acceptable stopgap for a bunch of these clubs
