LFC is going to need to buy 2 more strikers, since Studge is out until October at least. I don't really rate Ings, and would prefer they not get him unless he's very cheap.
It sounds like the deal is done. I don't get why so many LFC fans are against Ings. He's 22, and he's super cheap. Who knew Harry Kane would do what he did. Sometimes these young strikers can explode. Ings had 10 goals on a pretty bad team. I know he won't be in a position at LFC to get 10 goals, as I see him as more of an end-of-game spark guy, or maybe a Europa league players, but I think Ings is a solid prospect.
:goodposting:

I like Ings from what I've seen of him. Don't see him as a guy that's going to push any team into the "elite" stratosphere... right now. but I totally agree with your assessment. he works hard, has decent foot skills and is always finding dangerous spots in front of goal.
i don't disagree with either of your assessments, but that's also the problem.LFC needs a 20+ goal guy, anything else and it will be another year of 4-7 placement.

I think it's also a matter of going down this road before. Fabio Borini also got 10+ goals for Sunderland, but can't even sniff the bench for various reasons. Ings might be an exciting prospect, works hard, high energy etc etc, but the club needs an immediate contributor.

Does anyone have a price tag for him? If it's less than 10 mill, sure, it could be worth the gamble, but in that case they need to splash 30 mill or thereabouts for a proven commodity (not Benteke).

I am not comfortable going into 15/16 with:

Sturridge (out until Oct, and who knows if he will ever come back to the same level)

Origi (young and unproven, loads of potential)

Lambert (does not fit the system, old, but potential late minute sub)

Borini (surely he will be sold)

Balotelli (doesn't fit, hopefully sold)

Does anyone see 30+ goals from that lot?

With regards to Lacazette, I think he's going to be priced too high and go to a CL team, likely Arsenal or Man U if he comes to England.

Sadly, due to injury and retirement there are plenty of other needs as well. LFC absolutely needs a Gerrard replacement, somebody that can command the midfield and provide service. This needs to be a proven player.

There is also a need at fullback, with Johnson finally gone, Flannagan out after another knee surgery, Wisdom not ready for a full time role, Manquillo not showing enough quality, Moreno having serious defensive mental lapses. Would you really be comfortable going into the season with Moreno on the left, and Can on the right? Me neither.

Also a desperate need for a young goal keeper to push and eventually take the spot from Mignolet.

I think it'll be ok with a 20+ goal forward, a top central midfielder, and experienced full back that can play both sides and a young keeper (plus a cheap Ings), but that's not going to be easy to do without be able to offer CL football, and likely a limited budget.

And don't get me started on Sterling...

I'm not following Liverpool that closely- but Henderson seems like he's proven himself as a Gerrard replacement. and most teams need a guy like Gerrard.

I do agree that they need a guy up front right now who is going to get them the goals, not only a project like Ings.

I really liked what I saw of Ibe too- no idea where he plays, in the back or MF.

Henderson has turned into a good player, but he's no Gerrard. Maybe Emre Can will elevate his game to where he can come close, but that remains to be seen.Players like Gerrard are rarely replaced. They will likely fill the role to some degree with a combination of players, but that vision and ability to pick a pass is very rare.

While cleaning out four years of PMs this evening (yeah, I don't get many), I discovered an old conversation that reminded me why I chose Southampton as my club. In one of my first ever PL games I watched them beat Liverpool. Years later, I don't think that will ever get old.
I basically chose Swansea after they beat ManU on opening weekend this season.

I agree. And if Danny Ings is the only striker, I'd be very disappointed. As it is, Divock Origi and Danny Ings, are two really good prospects, but are not looking to be slated as the starters. If rumors can be believed, they are shooting for a legitimate #1 striker. I think Benteke is much more realistic than Lacazette, who I don't think Liverpool has a chance at getting, unless they massively overpay.

I personally don't have a problem with Benteke, other than the fact that he appears a bit injury prone. But he's a proven premier league scorer, and is certainly miles ahead of anything we've seen on the pitch this year.

Shouldn't they be interested in Tevez. Granted MLS will outbid them :oldunsure: , but he seems like he should be a perfectly acceptable stopgap for a bunch of these clubs

that's actually a great choice. and Tevez's game (or his old game) is very similar to Suarez, although not as good a passer, IMO.

This jumped out at me:

Game #7: Brooklyn Italians (NPSL) at Long Island Rough Riders (PDL)

Time/Location: 8 p.m. ET; St. Anthony’s High School in South Huntington, N.Y.

Brooklyn Italians Previous Appearances/Best Finish: 5 (2014; Third Round)

Brooklyn Italians Overall Record: 2-5-0 (Pro Era); 1979 and 1991 U.S. Open Cup Champions

Long Island Rough Riders Previous Appearances/Best Finish: 6 (1997; Quarterfinals)

Long Island Rough Riders Overall Record: 4-6-0

  • One of the few clubs in the 2015 tournament to take part in the competition before the “Pro Era”, the Brooklyn Italians won the National Challenge Cup as it was known in 1979, finished as U.S. Open Cup runners-up to A.A.C. Eagles (IL) in 1990 and won the tournament a second time in 1991.
  • The Brooklyn Italians qualified for the 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup by virtue of their 10-2-0 second place finish in the NPSL’s North Atlantic Conference in 2014.
  • Returning to the tournament for the first time since 2012, Long Island Rough Riders earned one of the PDL’s At Large berths after finishing with an 8-2-4 record in 2014.

If he goes to MLS, I can only see it being one of three teams (assuming no change in the DP rule).

Red Bull (if the Boateng rumors are false)

Orlando

NYCFC

Watching Tavez and Villa together with Mix and Lampard feeding them could be a lot of fun.

some of my old college teammates went to play for the Roughriders- so that game jumped out at me too.

Does anyone know if the old NASL teams participated? I noticed the Brooklyn Italians won in 1979 but that was not considered the "pro era" so I assume the NASL teams did not play.

I'm going to the DC - Orlando game tonight. Bitter sweet. Planned it before the Caps got scheduled. Stoled to see Kaka live and I'll be sure to keep on eye on my favorite whipping boy, Brek Shea.

Also, Tevez ####### rules. One of my all timers. Just love his game. Can't help but think how much he would have helped in the World Cup.

This could be the lowest attended game in MLS all season.

Caps playoff game and Wizards playoff game are happening at the same time as the United game.

Yup. And I'm going to miss the champions league game to tailgate. Worst. Plan. Ever. None of this was in the thighs a month ago. Too many wheels in motion.
