I don't think the window has been as bad as some United fans and pundits make it sound.  And if the plan is to bring in young talent and grow them like they used to, this isn't a bad start.  Compete for the top 4 and win Europa, bring in more talent in Jan and next summer and keep building.  No more attempts at quick fixes.

Defense looks to be secured and none are over 26.  If Dea Gea is happy and focused again, they should concede a lot less while not having to park the bus to do so.

MF could have used some added talent and depth, but Im ok not overpaying a player to get them in if they dont really want to be there.

There are questions at RW and the 10 spot.  James, Dalot, Greenwood can all play there but are all young and have questions.  10 spot should be Mata but he is older and not fleet of foot.  Hopefully Pereira can own the spot.  Lingard is a hard worker but his vision and scoring is not good enough for that spot.

Pogba and McTominay have looked good together in preseason, and McT has earned the spot imo.  Martial and Rashford can still grow.

Now if they would sell off some dead weight, move Woodward back to marketing and get a director of football, things would improve.

The Ringer's Michael Baumann answering the question "Which team is most likely to fall out of the top six?"

Meanwhile, Manchester United and Chelsea are betting big on the “maybe this beloved ex-player will make a good manager” route, which is what the dumbest guy on your message board would do if put in charge of the club.
:lmao:

Alex Iwobi to Everton

I love the Super Eagles but £40M is pretty steep for a guy who can completely disappear at times.

another headline from there:

Lallana to be Like “New Signing” for Sixth Season in a Row
:lmao:  Klopp:

“Adam is a cool guy,” the German told Soccer on Sunday. “Brittle as a whore’s virginity, as we say in the Black Forest. But if he can string a few matches together without his hamstrings doing a Michael Owen, then for sure he will be like a new signing.”

“Obviously not a signing that would excite the fans or children,” said Klopp. “More like when you bring in some Eastern European randomer on a ‘free’ to be fourth choice in about seven different positions. The guy who when you read he’s left, you say, ‘Oh, I thought he was gone years ago.'”

“And then a few years later you read he died in some weird circumstances,'” added Klopp. “And you ask your assistant, ‘Is that whatshisface?'”

Arsenal have bid £30 Million for highly-rated winger Wilfried Zaha, having had a higher bid of £40 Million rejected by Crystal Palace last week. Unai Emery has made Zaha his number one transfer priority for the summer.

Bid

“It’s disappointing,” Palace boss Roy Hodgson told Soccer on Sunday. “When a bid is rejected, it’s customary to make a higher bid. But it’s well-documented that these Arsenal ####s wouldn’t spend Christmas. Deep pockets and little T-Rex arms, most of them.”

“The decision isn’t mine,” added the former England manager. “But I’d be very surprised if the chairman accepts £30 million after turning down £40 million, unless he’s been at the crack pipe. And I’ve warned him about that stuff. Leave it to the big boys, like myself and Pete Doherty.”

Flinch

Unai Emery insists that Arsenal will not flinch in their efforts to secure Zaha.

“We can go lower,” the Spaniard told Soccer on Sunday. “If they reject £30 million, we’ll bid £25 million. Then £20 million, £15 million and so on. Sooner or later they’ll crack, and then bish-bash-bosh, Bob’s your uncle, as you English say.”

“Higher?” added Emery. “Why would we bid higher? Then the cost would go up instead of down. That makes no sense. Maybe other clubs like to spend, but that’s not the Arsenal way. Arsène Wenger would turn in his grave.”

“Alive?” said Emery. “Wenger? That’s great news. Good for him.”

This is Gold -- Gareth Bale training with U8s

Gareth Bale has been photographed training with Real Madrid’s Under 8 squad as his stand-off with Zinedine Zidane shows no sign of abating. The Welshman was recently criticised by Zidane for playing golf during Madrid’s loss to Spurs in the Audi Cup semi-final.

Captain

“Gaz is a good lad really,” Under 8s captain José González told Soccer on Sunday. “We’re happy to have him, so long as he doesn’t start acting the Bertie Big Bollox. I sat him down early doors and said, ‘Listen Gaz, none of us give a #### about golf. We’re trying to build something here in the Under 8s, so just keep your head down, work hard and shut the #### up you dozy Welsh ####.'”

“Credit to the lad, he knuckled down,” said González. “Obviously he’s got twenty years and 10 stone on most of us, but I came through the back of him in a 5 aside and haven’t heard a peep out of the #### since.”

“That’s between Gaz and Zizou,” added the 8 year old, when asked whether there’s a route back to the senior fold for Bale. “I’ve told them both, keep me out of it. These things happen sometimes when you get two stubborn ####s like Gaz and Zizou. As I say, I’m just here to win Under 8 matches for Real Madrid and play with my transformers.”

And now the window has closed in England.  And the rest of Europe is still open for a few more weeks.  So they can all buy, including English players, but English teams can not buy any more.  Once again the English FA doing all it can to help Europe and not its own.

I"m sure there's some holier than thou reason, but it's bizarre they're not all on the same day.

I think there was discussion before last summer about why you could buy and sell players after the season started.  Most that I saw talking about it around Europe agreed the window should close before the seasons start.  So England, thinking they are better then everyone and everyone else would follow, moved to close their window before their season started.  The rest of Euro did not follow and not only do their seasons start later, but their windows dont close before their seasons start.

Similar hubris gave them Brexit.

there's a CONCACAF League?

but no US or Mex teams? and there's a Canadian Premiere League? the winner of which gets to play in the concacaf league?

ah. googled. the winner of this league qualifies for the CONCACAF Champion's League, where US and MEX teams live.

the picture was the best part, imo.
I love that site. I hope this is true:

ABOUT US

Soccer on Sunday is written by a footballer who currently plays in the Premier League. Because the stories poke fun at players and managers the author knows personally, he has vowed not to reveal his identity until he retires from playing.
I doubt it, but would be awesome.

Is this different then the "Leagues Cup"?

The top 6 teams in the Concacaf League (made up over 20 teams) advance to the Champions League.  It is a way to help some of the minnows get some international games.

Also to make things more complicated, Canada also has something called the Canadian Championship, which functions as their domestic cup.   The Canadian MLS teams play in this.  The winner of the Canadian Championship gets a bid to the Champions League.

The Canadian Championship winner gave us this incredible memorable moment for Montreal in the Champions League

So, usually, @Jaysus, runs a FPL league and posts in here for it.

The new FPL season is here and the website carries over that league automatically now.

Don't know if Jesus is going to get involved with it again. However, if you have a login and what not, SXM 157 has a private league for listeners or just general players.

The league name is, "SiriusXM FC" ,and the code is, "1w27mi"

Just so anybody who's interested knows.

I think its good the window closes before the start of the season.  Its not that big of a deal, but makes more sense to me that you have to get your roster set before the first game.  I don't really think its an advantage or disadvantage that other leagues are open longer.

I agree they should close before the season.  I just think they should all close at the same time.  It just opens up the possibility that teams can lose players without being able to replace them. Do teams have to sell? no.  But teams also don't seem to always be running things and a player/agent can force things.

Well, this is a little unsettling, if true:

Charles Watts

@charles_watts

Understand Ozil and Kolasinac are both safe and unharmed - but they have been targeted more than once, in separate incidents over the past couple of days.
