gotta say- I fully expected rooney to stevie g it up in MLS... but he's been great from what I've seen. no lack of effort.
Me too, I was really wrong.  The guy only has one playing attitude, which is awesome.

Rooney was even pissed that no one was trying in the MLS All Star game (a game that is even an bigger sham now than the ICC games).

Looks like St Louis is in!

ST. LOUIS — Major League Soccer plans to announce next week that St. Louis has secured an expansion team, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the league's expansion timeline.

Sources spoke on condition of anonymity, as the St. Louis ownership group and MLS have not publicized the announcement.

Plans have been made for an event Tuesday in St. Louis.

One year ago today, Austin City Council voted 7-4 to make a deal with Precourt for an MLS stadium in Austin. This would eventually lead us to write a chant about the vote, which got us hammered on Deadspin in January. Suffice it to say, the chant has been retired.

Never having heard the chant, I am nonetheless 100% certain that retiring it was a good decision.  Deadspin's opinion on the matter does not influence my position in the slightest.

Nothing gets soccer fans more excited than chanting about local politics. Trying to get one going for land development code reform and for transit infrastructure investment.

My daughter's club team won a tourney a few months ago and part of the prize was the on field experience at last nights Galaxy v Dallas match.  They were supposed to be the kids walking out with the players before the game.  All the girls were so damn excited, my girl esp and of course a few others want to walk out with Zlatan.  We get to the game and check in.  The girls are taken down to get instructions and are told they are walking with the team.  Excitement building.  Then they are walked over to the tunnel and were lined up in front of the banner and told you guys are holding and unrolling the banner at midfield instead.  What an absolute  :censored:  thing for them to do.  Don't get me wrong, walking out of the tunnel, being on the field, and the banner is cool, but not when you were expecting to walk out with the players!  One of the girls texted her day saying shes in tears (her dad complained to the point of contact for the Galaxy), but most made the best of it.  Luckily my girl is easy going and when I noticed the amount of kids checking in, I had a feeling this could go wrong and warned her.  As disappointed as they were though, most were waiving and jumping around, watching themselves on the big screen.  Just kind of frustrating how the Galaxy handled everything.

OK Rant over...... for now

As for the game, got to see the best and worst of Zlatan.  Walking around, berating the ref, going off on his teammates for bad runs and not giving service.  He kicked the post after the cross didn't come when he was open at the back post at one point.  Then the best late in the game increasing his movement, scored twice including a nice PK and won 2-0.

Starting to wonder if Liverpool sold their soul to the devil for the CL title: :oldunsure:

Klopp reveals Adrian got caught on the ankle by a supporter who slipped after invading the pitch. It's swollen and he may miss out tomorrow. Madness.

I open up my email this morning and I have a linkedin job match...

Senior Director, Office Services & Administration.... Major League Soccer

this is a facilities services gig, not facilities oversight/construction- so linkedin screwed the pooch here- but considering I"m looking to move.. I had that split second of jumpy & quo.

My sister does facilities management for colleges. She loves it. Something to think about.

I'm tempted to throw a resume at it... but given I have zero experience with this specific job, I don't see much happening.

I had a friend in 98' who was working for MLS in their legal dept... offered to try to find me something within MLS. I've always wondered "what if" about that one.

If you've done any sort of project management I think you'd figure it out pretty quick.

Joining MLS in 98 would have been interesting.  Not many workers survived as the league was just about to enter its near death spiral, but the few that made it through ended up with big time careers.

anybody else getting tired of the zlat's anti-MLS rhetoric?

obviously won't be around after this year and seems hell-bent on burning bridges on his way out.

Yeah it is getting old.   some one on reddit said this is very common for him to flame throw when he is leaving a league.

didn't he say disparaging stuff about the EPL on his way out?
Don't recall much other then he came and conquered kind of stuff.

Its really no different then what a lot of the older Euro players that come here have said about it.  Travel, turf, playoffs, not every game meaning something....

I haven't seen anything since his war of words with vela, is there more now?

he's ####ting on the playoffs. (eta: he's got a point and I don't disagree... but at least put on the usual euro-player spin of "makes for great league parity")

he's just said his new argentine teammate, pavon, is too good for the league and should move on.

typical euro guys you have to read between the lines about the negativity- they'll usually try to say something nice about the league being on the way up with some quality (which at this point tbh is code for "the league isn't very good"). the zlat is just actively taking dumps on it.

but I swear he said stuff about the EPL like "it's not a top league"... or worse.

It was war of words against Vela, not with Vela.  Vela said nothing.  Zlatan got all angry because a reporter pointed out that Vela was having a great season.
yeah. vela couldn't have been more effusive and respectful of zlat in whatever comments he made that involved the other player.

He said the league was over rated, specifically from a technical point of view.  He also alluded to how well he did in the EPL at his advanced age that he would have torn the league up in his prime.

Like I said earlier though, he craps on every league when he leaves.  I don't have the exact quotes but he hammered Serie A numerous times.  It is a strange schtick he has.

“Excuse my raspy voice, last night I went to my first ever Timbers game!” The US District court judge said this yesterday in court, not knowing Diego Chara was there, about to be sworn in as a naturalized United States citizen

I blame Lazio.

Seriously.

"I have a lot of respect for Vela, he's a good player, but you did one mistake, you compared him with me, that was your biggest mistake."    Doesn't seem like much to do about anything.

Zlatan also got in the one two punch of asking the reporter where Zlatan was at Vela's age, getting in a shot against MLS and Vela at the same time.
