100% chance this rotates between the two countries in the future though I'd think.

If I was constructing it for pure competition format, (they won't because they are focused on money first), I would take the top 16 teams from MLS and the top 16 teams from Liga MX and start at a round of 32 knock out style, home and home series.

All teams from each league could be seeded 1-16, and then let #1 from Liga MX play #16 from MLS, #1 from MLS play #16 from Liga MX etc etc.

Every game was a home game for MLS and it's really impressive that MLS had most of the teams advance? Not sure I agree with that.
I could be wrong about the timeframe, but I don't think it was very long ago MLS teams struggled to get results against Liga Mex teams even playing at home. Without diving deep it feels like MLS has reached ~parity with LM.
Without a doubt, MLS has at least reached parity with LigaMx. I think it's a mix of MLS getting better, but certainly LigaMx getting way worse. Money plays a significant factor as well.
I guess my point wasn't that I wasn't overly impressed with MLS being that everything was kind of stacked in their favor and they barely petered through in a lot of spots.
I think top to bottom MLS is better right now and the top end talent of the US is better than Mexico as well. But, both of these leagues aren't really all that good which is fine. I would like to see MLS adopt a relegation/promotion system as that adds a lot to a league.

Bayern and Spurs look like they have agreed on a price for Kane finally. Up to Kane now.
Kane seems to be waffling now. Or something. Seems odd to me. I think the Spurs front office are completely thrown off by Kane's hesitation.

Even as a Spurs fan, I'd rather sell Kane now than get nothing for him next summer when he signs with another PL side.

Why is it odd? He's 50ish goals away from being the EPL scoring leader. Two good seasons or three decent ones and he's the guy. Gotta be a dream for any English born player. Sure, it helps the Spurs to get something for him, but that's not Kane's problem. If they're so worried about that, then drop the price and bring teams like ManU and Arsenal back to the table. Hell, give Chelsea a call(I know... I know.... cold day in hell and all). They'd probably match Bayern's bid.

It seems odd to me because he's let the two clubs go through this month+ long negotiation process. If he knew he wasn't going to Bayern, why would he allow that to happen? I assume he wants to maintain goodwill with Spurs and their supporters. My guess is this is just some confusion that will be cleared up soon, or maybe his agent is still negotiating personal terms with Bayern and wants that leverage.

Me too. Rumors that some team made an offer to Kane about next year, so he might back out on Bayern. Very messy.

MBappe was never going to be in play but this could work......

Understand both Neymar Jr and Paris Saint-Germain are working to find the best solution to part ways this summer, as soon as possible

Both sides working for Neymar to leave.

Neymar has proposals from Al Hilal and MLS.

Barça have to decide whether if want to try.

All reports were Kane and Bayern had already agreed on personal terms. Granted that was a month ago, but Kane was in agreement to make the move when the negotiations started.

Exactly.

Onana for DDG is a massive ETH move.
Antony from Ajax and Mount were both ETH moves
He pushed hard for Rojlund as well - these are guys that press high and can move the ball quickly - this is the style that ETH wants to play for sure, get the ball from the back to the attack ASAP. Thus the reason you see guys like Erickson not playing much. Sancho is a great attacker, but not so great on the press whereas Rashford and Garnecho are.
You don't release a United legend in goal, multi time player of the year without sticking your neck on the line quite a bit. I am not an Onana fan, but I only watched him a bit while at Ajax, did not see him at Inter much last year. He is reckless at times with his confidence, hopefully that was a younger version of the player however.
Sounds like ManU are in for higher scoring games this season.
It is very difficult to extrapolate from league to league, but his teams at Ajax averaged nearly 3gpg. However, they allowed way less than 1 gpg. Obviously the Eredivise doesn't have near the depth and talent of the premier league.
But high pressing teams do offer more chances in the attack and they allow more on the counter, so you would think they would be higher scoring games. United preseason games have not shown this other than an exciting 3-2 game vs Dortmund (another high pressing team), their games have been relatively lower scoring. Of course this has a lot to do with player rotation as well.
I expect ALL premier league games to have slightly higher scoring than normal (see my championship league comments previously) but I don't necessarily think United's games will be any higher scoring than usual. Getting points is much more important than goals, and they have the talent to put the ball in lock down mode if they get a lead.
Last season United was 3rd in goals against, level with Arsenal. City and Newcastle 33 GA, United & Arsenal 43 GA. And that's while letting in 7 vs the scousers, 4 v Brentford, 6 v City...
If they can maintain their defensive record and clean up a few of the above outliers, they should be competing again just from a defensive side.

Their problem was not scoring enough goals. For reference, United scored 58 last season, Arsenal 88, City 94
They were reliant on Rashford (17) and Bruno (8) for their goals. Antony (4), Sancho (6), Garnacho (3) need to each get closer to 10+, Hojlund surpassing Martial's 6 (hopefully doubling that to start) and Mount potentially matching Bruno, that and your assortment of random goal scorers (Casemiro, Own Goal, Pellistri, Amad, any defenders) pushes you up to 90+ goals and now you are winning games you drew and drawing games you lost..... . Now you are competing for a title.

Great use of VAR in Ligue 1. This is how its done in rugby as well - with the entire discussion between player, ref and VAR booth broadcast.

do you know if that was all broadcast live... or was that just put together in post as an example of how this works (ie: they don't broadcast the discussion).

I don't know if the discussion in this case was part of the live broadcast. In rugby it is - ref is mic'd and everyone hears the entire discussion between ref, players and VAR booth. Everyone in the stadium sees the same views the ref is looking at. Ref doesn't leave the field and go to a viewing booth, just watches on the big screen with everyone else and makes his call. It makes so much more sense, but I suppose the soccer fans are generally more unruly and potentially violent as compared to the posh rugby crowd.

Independiente dell Valle, the team in Ecuador that developed Caicedo, held on to a significant percentage of Caicedo. Either 20% or 30% (reports seem to vary).

Either way that is going to be an ENORMOUS amount of cash for a team in Ecuador.

Looks like Liverpool just broke the EPL transfer record for Caicedo and their bid has been approved.

Insane. I didn't watch a ton of Brighton last year, but there's no way a 21 year old CDM with 1 year of EPL experience is worth the EPL transfer record. If Liverpool were gonna pay that much for a midfielder why not get Bellingham or Rice?

Caicedo deal not "done" Apparently Liverpool and Caicedo can't agree on personal terms and now there's news out saying Moises only wants Chelsea....

Don't know what's happening. Might be one of the craziest transfer sagas of all time.

Sunday's game is gonna be pretty fun though with all this theater.

I am fairly excited to see Ange ball.
Same. Glad we got Kane sold as well. I didn't want to lose him, to a PL team, for nothing next year.

Bring in another young striker and see what happens up front with Ange ball. Son is also healthy, him and Richy and Kulu up front is pretty nice. If the D can be just marginally better and the goals come from the playing style, top-4 is certainly possible.

@NewlyRetired Seems to be a done deal to me. All the headlines are saying it is done. Here is the official 'Here we go' from Fabrizio.

Also the final amount seems to be 100M pounds, could go up to 120M pounds with add-ons. (Important to note pounds are a decent amount above Euro at this time.)
But even Fabrizio altered that tweet. Here is what he posted AFTER "here we go"

Final ‘poker games’ of Kane saga Harry Kane and his camp, at the airport in order to fly to Munich. Tottenham now asking to change some small conditions of the deal.Kane, just waiting to fly once Spurs approve.…Daniel Levy, in USA and so on different time zone.

Tyler Adams move to Chelsea is off now too... I love trainwrecks like this!!
Sounds like Caicedo only wants Chelsea, so they need to up the bid to match Liverpool's and that means no Adams... what fun.

Kane to Bayern supposedly done now pending physical?

I assume photos are coming later today... Fabrizio Romano on Instagram:
"🚨 𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆: Harry Kane now finally flying to Munich — he’s new Bayern player! 🔴🛩️ After Tottenham asking to change final details of the deal, Kane got green light and travels to sign 🔒✨ …𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐞 𝐠𝐨, confirmed."
Did you read the Athletic piece on the transfer? Interesting. Nothing earth shattering, but looks like Kane and Spurs left on good terms.

Philly and Miami advance to play each other in the semi finals of Leagues Cup.

@Ted Lange as your Bartender who is hosting this game?

Messi can finally cross off “Visit Delaware County” from his bucket list on Tuesday night.

BTW, between this and Media getting to the LLWS, arguably the biggest sporting week in Delco history on tap.

Dembele to PSG official... interesting player to me- looks like the best player on the planet for times, and then disappears for the rest
He's had so many injuries over the years, some times it just seems he is afraid to go full speed. Both Barcelona and France have at times used him in a role where he probably had too much defensive responsibilities (see WCF).

He's only 26 and is just a fantastic dribbler. A lot of technique and speed in those long legs. Hope he can stay healthy and finally live up to his potential for PSG.

The numbers in this are likely to be gargantuan

EXCLUSIVE: Al Hilal have presented an important proposal to Neymar Jr in the recent hours. Sources describe that as “huge bid” #AlHilalNegotiations are underway to reach full agreement — Neymar, tempted by this possibility. Work in progress to part ways with PSG soon.

The team in MLS that made an offer to Neymar is said to be LA Galaxy. But there is no way they are going to be able to offer anything close to what Saudi offered even if sponsors helped out like they did with Messi. And Messi really only signed because his wife wanted no part of Saudi and Barca were basically broke (as mentioned above).
