Apple are reportedly close to agreeing a deal with FIFA that would see the tech company win the worldwide television rights for the new, revised Club World Cup competition.

The New York Times report that this landmark deal could be worth more than $1billion as Apple look to take their next step into the world of live sports.
I have heard a little about the club world cup, but mostly negative and that the clubs, at least in Europe, do not want to be a part of.

Everyone wants a piece of the sport. Too many games, too many competitions means a lot more injuries.
Yeah... This isn't something I'd sink a billion dollars into.

German Cup draw already done for next season, notable ties included:

Dynamo Dresden v Fortuna Düsseldorf
Arminia Bielefeld v Hannover 96
Eintracht Braunschweig v Eintracht Frankfurt
Phönix Lübeck v Borussia Dortmund
1. FC Saarbrücken v 1. FC Nürnberg
Wehen Wiesbaden v Mainz 05
SSV Ulm v Bayern München
Carl Zeiss Jena v Bayer Leverkusen

FIFA has ruled that Equatorial Guinea captain Emilio Nsue was never eligible to represent the African nation throughout his 11-year international career.Nsue won the Golden Boot as top goalscorer at the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year with five goals in four appearances. In December 2013, FIFA ruled that Nsue was not eligible to play for Equatorial Guinea — following several appearances for Spain’s youth teams — but he continued to represent them regardless. FIFA opened a new investigation into Nsue’s eligibility in March with the 34-year-old given a six-day deadline to respond, but world football’s governing body said no response arrived.FIFA published its judgement in a 15-page ruling on Monday, with Equatorial Guinea stripped of their World Cup 2026 qualification victories against Namibia and Liberia — which they both won 1-0 thanks to Nsue goals — with their opponents awarded a three-goal victory.FIFA has ruled that former Nsue has been banned from all international football for six months, while the Equatoguinean federation (Feguifut) was fined 150,000 Swiss francs ($164,000, £129,000

MBappe to Real Madrid is now official.
booo hisss
The team that won the Champions League just signed the best player in the world for free and is also bringing on the top youth prospect in the world at the same time.

Seems ridiculous when you write it out....
And their team president spends most of his time bitching about how it's impossible to be competitive in a world where the EPL has so much money.

I thinkbwe can all hope that Mbappe hates his teammates, especially Vini, Rodrygo, and Bellingham and refuses to play alongside them.
I don't follow either super closely, however, doesn't Vini Jr play the same position? I can't imagine he sticks around if so.

Well, any doubts that Man City know they're about to get absolutely hammered seem to have ended. Suing the EPL.

Hope this ends with the whole club at the bottom of the English Channel.

At least they'll still have Pep to help them pick up the pieces.

Kidding! He'll be at Real Madrid within 24 hours of the guilty verdict.

Yeah just saw this trending on twitter. Seems City's argument is the rules are not fair.

Guess the FA will just have to deduct points from Everton, Forest and Leicester instead.

And Pep wouldn't go to Real Madrid, he's a Barca boy. It will be PSG or Juve.

Well here is a picture that I put at number 1,245,876,256 of pictures I expected to see today online

The vote to abolish VAR in the EPL next season was soundly defeated, 19-1. Wolves was the only team that voted yes
Hopefully they are able to improve how it is used, as the headlines suggest they are looking into.

For me, two things I would do:
-Ref immediately goes to the monitor to make the call himself. He is the one in charge, players are dealing with his interpretations and how he feels the game is going. Do not give it to someone else who is not immersed in the game.

-Make offside have to be "clear and obvious". Assistant refs can not see a toe or a knee and most studies showed they were extremely good at calling it without the lines. (I know this will get some pushback here because it is a very black and while law, but its not the spirit imo and there is no advantage when my size 11 is off because you wear a size 6)

Gibraltar held Wales to a scoreless draw today.
Wales was something like -1700 to win here. Gibraltar are part time players on teams like Lincoln Red Imps. Total transfer value of their national team is probably less than $500K. Wild

I think this is easier than that. No ref to sideline ever. The VAR has 30 seconds to make a definitive decision. If he can't or doesn't, call on the field stands and play on.

The rule is intended to correct clear and obvious, not every damn nit. If it takes longer than 30 seconds or requires the on-field ref to view it, it isn't clear and obvious.

I agree with you, but would still prefer the on field ref making those decisions, not some guy in the van down by the river.

Decade after decade the league still refuses to try and work around this

102 MLS players will miss matches away with their nations this int'l window

Phil Neville on @MLS playing through int'l breaks: "Because of this rule people just get on with it, but I'm not sure it's the right thing to do."

Because of a stipulation in the Bellingham sale from Dortmund to Madrid, Dortmund made more money losing the Champions League final than winning it. Madrid winning the final triggered a clause in the Bellingham sale that sent Dortmund another large chunk of money.

This is a big blow to FIFA especially if it is just the first shoe to drop

REAL MADRID TO DECLINE TO PLAY at 2025 Club World Cup in US, says manager Carlo Ancelotti. He told Italian newspaper Il Giornale $21M offered by FIFA is too little & more clubs feel same way. Just how badly would Champions League kings' snub undermine FIFA's new event?

Never thought this was a thing worth doing. Nice idea to get clubs from around the world playing each other, but not in the middle of the season.

I saw a report saying it was 25m for losing due to the Jude sale, where winning it was 20m as the payout from UEFA. Nice consolation price I guess.

It's just about money. FIFA will throw them more for the next one, or they'll funnel some under the table to convince them to join for the first one.

The World Cup survived the same kind of snobbery when the European teams wouldn't come to South America for the first tournament, so I see precedence. And when all else fails, FIFA will print more money.

Fabrizio just tweeted that Real will play in the Club World Cup. Guess Ancelotti didn't speak for them?

It didn't make sense anyway. Real's being "paying" out of pocket money to be part of preseason training camps/tours in the US for the last 15 years in an effort to reach an expanding new audience. Now, FIFA is going to PAY THEM to play in the US and they'd turn it down? It's laughable to even consider that. No idea what Ancelotti is on.

FYI, the tourney is in June/July.

I would be shocked if Real Madrid have been paying to come to the US.... there are companies that have been promoting these tours for years, paying the clubs to come over.

A rare time I agree with Real Madrid. CWC always has been a bit silly, but small. Expanding it is a terrible idea.
