I realize there are only 6 or 7 true buying clubs (Real, Barca, PSG, Bayern, Chelsea, United?, City?), but it sure sucks not being one of them when you see your team as a "big" club and three of the Buyers are in your league.

I think it's going to be a good summer for sellers, not so great for buyers. I'm almost always wrong though.

These type matches are just unfair.

Germany was only up 1-0, Schweinsteiger actually had a penalty saved.

Now 6-0 after 70 minutes.

 
Yeah, I agree with Bentley. And not just about the value of spending most of your adult life drunk.

Suarez was probably irreplaceable, no matter how much LFC got for him. It's a bummer they had to sell him. Sterling isn't even in the same conversation. We're not talking about replacing 30 goals and 10 assists. If LFC can get 50 million pounds they should happily pull the trigger. Whether they should then buy a bunch of Lazar Markovics is another question.

do the english overvalue their players so much, because there arent very many to go around in the EPL, or just to make their players seem more "legit" and "world class"

sorry, but historically, the value of decent/good english players when sold in the EPL, is nauseating.

50m for sterling? come on. good, but 50m good? not even remotely close.

It is a good bit of both. However, I really don't think Sterling goes for anywhere near 50mm pounds.

There's a rumored offer of 30m for Sterling which is rumored to have been rejected. 50m is still just media banter. Otherwise, I think its no secret why English clubs will pay more for an English player - native players are of course more marketable for English clubs, and they have minimum homegrown rules to satisfy.

That's what I'm talking about. Even if it's 35 or 40 million pounds, Liverpool should be able to put that to good use. Whether they do or not is another question.

Also, I've been drinking beer since about 10 this morning. SURPRISE!

haven't seen anyone very reliable hammer this out yet, though. Example, DiMarzio (biblical, especially within italy) hasnt said a peep.

not to say it isnt happening... but seems premature at the moment. Im all for Inter weakening themselves.

also, the 25m seems a load of crap. They literally JUST renewed him til 2019, and paid nearly 20m for him. would be idiotic

Sepp Blatter is considering staying on as FIFA president, despite handing in his resignation in early June, according to Swiss newspaper Schweiz am Sonntag.

The paper quoted an unnamed source close to Blatter saying that he "had received messages of support from African and Asian football associations" asking him to rethink his decision to step down.

Former FIFA governance adviser Michael Hershman had told ESPN's Jeremy Schaap earlier this month that he too was uncertain whether Blatter would walk away.

FIFA will set a date for the new presidential election next month, and it is expected to take place on Dec. 16, although the European Parliament has urged the 79-year-old to walk away immediately.

However, Schweiz am Sonntag said experts at FIFA doubted whether any of those vying to succeed Blatter, including former Brazil star Zico, could command a majority.

PR consultant Klaus J. Stohlker, who worked as Blatter's personal adviser from January to the end of May, told the newspaper: "It's hard to find someone who is equal to him.

"Blatter has built the organisation into a global, highly successful company, and he's a top diplomat. Blatter has a reasonable chance. It now depends on how he behaves in the coming months."

He added: "Blatter is the elected president at FIFA."

The news of Blatter's rethink comes just days after FIFA's director of communications and public affairs Walter De Gregorio also announced his resignation from world football's governing body.

The paper reports that De Gregorio had been a leading voice in the clamour for a new start at FIFA and that his differences with Blatter were insurmountable.

De Gregorio refused to comment when asked about those claims by Schweiz am Sonntag.

The independent chairman of FIFA's audit and compliance committee, Domenico Scala, has reminded Blatter to stick with his plans to step down.

Scala, the official overseeing the next FIFA presidential election, said: "For me, the reforms are the central topic.

"That is why I think it is clearly indispensable to follow through with the initiated process of leadership change as it has been announced."

Unbelievable...Real Zaragoza is playing Giro in Spanish Segunda Division playoff. They lost the 1st leg 3-0 at home, seemingly ending any hope of promotion. They have just taken 3-0 lead into halftime on the road...word.

Unfortunately, no...Zaragoza scored a 4th, but Girona pulled one back...4-4 on aggregate with 5 mins reg time left.Dammit...seems they lose on away goal.

Pretty sure the match could have ended, the stadium cleared, and the lights turned out, and Sterling would still be lying prone on the pitch. Gotta admire that level of commitment to a fake injury. Fortunately Slovemia finally put the ball out of play and he magically healed with no need for medical assistance.

 
Man, Colombia has been disappointing. Their attack has been totally disjointed; no rhythm, no link-up play, no direction...considering that stacked front line/midfield.

I don't get the value of Sterling. He's really fast, but the guy is atrocious in front of goal and kicks like a girl. Why would a team pay him 50M when guys like Sanchez went in the 30M range last year?

Is Sterling really going to make your team leap to the next level instantly?

And if he does sign with Man City and becomes a top player for them...do they really think he's the type of guy that is going to stay there for ten years?

I guess my point is that he doesn't seem like an impact player NOW, and he doesn't seem like the type of guy that is loyal enough to stash on your bench for 2 seasons and then expect him to walk into your starting lineup.

If LFC get 50M for him, I think that's a steal. It would be nice to keep young assets, but lets face it, this guy just isn't going to be a long-term player. Sell him now while the money is high.

The way he kicks the ball, I doubt he'll ever have a pricetag this high again.

I see a lot of Welbeck in Sterling. Works hard, looks pretty, may be a nice winger.... IMO his value in England is higher since he is young and English. Two things of great value to English clubs. I think his value was also inflated in europe (england included) when he was #3 in the Suarez/Sturridge/Sterling group lighting up the scoreboard.

I agree that if someone gives LP 50 mill, or even 30mill they should take it. But then again, I dont see him being much more then what Welbeck is now.

I think Liverpool have also really dodged the bullet on Sterling in terms of health. He seems like the type of player that is going to get hurt a lot, because he is slight and scrawny. He goes to the ground a lot.

He's small- but that kid is tough as nails. he wins 50/50 balls against CBs, holds the ball against anybody. the biggest surprise to me about him this year was how strong he was on the ball. I think he's a tremendous player- youngish, game-breaking pace, and can score. you've made a couple of comments- weak shot, slight... I just don't see eiher of those from him this year.

I can buy your points about his toughness. But not his shot. He's got a weak leg. At least what I've seen this year. He is still young though, that can certainly improve.

 
The Cosmos will host NYCFC on Wednesday in the US Open Cup.

I have no idea if NYCFC will use their starters but they are coming off of their first back to back wins so it will be interesting if they try and keep the momentum going or simply just rest the starters.....

 
How did Vidal not get red for that challenge? I only started watching toward the end of the half but caught the replay. Ridiculous challenge.
