Crowd in NY doing the "Let's go _____ / _____ sucks!" chant, and now some ####### with a horn is playing John Cena's entrance music. Did they all come straight here from a taping of Raw or something?

La Liga race getting tighter IMO as Atlético squeaks out a 1-0 win at home to Gijón on the 93rd, and Real gets taken to the woodshed (sorta) at Sevilla.

I'll be pulling for Real to knock Barça down 3 points in el Clásico. That should make things quite even if it comes to pass.

Sergio Ramos had a ridiculous goal for Real but hurt himself making the shot and had to leave. And then the Sevilla barrage started.

U17 3rd place game was a barnbutner between ####### mexico (and their ####### puto fans, even in chile) and belgium.

Game winner in stoppage time by 10 man belgium kid who looked all world. Wish I could remember his name. Scored two golazos and had an assistazo for the first goal.

Alter fan rooting for Real.....

Just finished the rb game. Not a lot to suggest a champion there... but good to gut out the win and advance.

Sassuola otoh!

Hmmm... not much in this game suggesting a champion either.

The playoffs usually turn into pretty deary affairs.
I think NY has an excellent chance against either of these teams.

The NY DC was awful but this one I think it fairly entertaining. Not the greatest quality of course but still fun.

Just finished watching the Arsenal game. Pretty even all around, draw seemed pretty deserved to me. Both teams had chances to score a few more. Wenger looks like the tactical genius for the Gibbs sub and playing him in an advanced position.

Yesterday was my first look at Shaqiri. I have read that continental footy people laugh at English talent scouts who always want to know how tall a prospect is and I hope this pint-sized guy helps with changing some attitudes. He was fun to watch, very slick and comfortable, and it was his really pretty pass that started the sequence on the Stoke goal. We still have to see if he can do that against one of the league's better teams, though.

Checking the U17 World Cup wiki this morning and found it interesting that Nigeria is the most successful nation, with 5 titles and 3 runners up. Nigeria won the first U17 world cup in 1985 and won their fifth title yesterday, over Mali. Brazil is second most successful with 3 titles and 2 runners up. Ghana is the third most successful. Teams that have never won it include Germany, Spain, Argentina, Holland and Italy.

I don't know how many (if any) are following the IAAF/WADA/Russia press conference, but basically Russia was a 1980's Eastern Germany (basically every Russian in Sochi was doped to the gills and they destroyed all the samples on FSB/KGB instructions).

I bring this up because:

1. The Russian organizing WC2018 was complicit (shocking I know)

2. Interpol is investigating IAAF, Russiad officals, other sports, and other countries. The other sports/countries may end up including a bunch of soccer guys. The guys reporting this stuff seem to think that's the next shoe to fall. Basically any heavily European sport is probably going to have some fallout.

Vieira to NYCFC as HC is official. This has 90% disaster potential (if not more). I guess the only good news is Reyna is still "Sporting Director" which I hope means he knows the ins and outs of MLS's salary cap.

Kaka, Giovinco, Bradley, Gerrard, Lampard, Villa, Jozy, Dempsey, Keane, Dos Santos, Jones, Martins, Pirlo, Gonzalez, Morales

These are the 15 highest paid MLS players this season.

Not a single one of these players will be playing in the conference finals.

There are 4 MLS American qualifiers for the CCL.

As of now, Sporting KC, NYR, and Dallas have all qualified.

The last spot will come from the MLS Cup champion.

If NYR and Dallas meet in the final, I think Columbus, by virtue of some tie breakers, will qualify as the 4th team.

Yeah. If Portland wins the cup, they get the last spot. If anyone else wins it, then it goes to Columbus.

Guillermo Barros Schelotto, who had a great run in MLS and is currently the coach of Lanus in Argentina where he has done very well, will be interviewed for the Chicago Fire head coach position.

Be it for good or bad, there is not another soccer league in the world where this could ever happen where the two lowest salaried teams were the two best.

We should be careful to not read too much into this, though. LA had won three of the last four MLS Cups. Last season, Seattle won the Supporter's Shield. The season before that, NYRB (with a super high payroll incorporating Henry and Cahill) won the Supporter's Shield.

The list is somewhat skewed because I don't think we'd expect expansion teams to do all that well in any event. Big money DPS didn't make them contenders, but Orlando was a lot better than most expansion teams and Kaka was a huge part of that.

Leicester City is trying to be one of two...

yes but the big difference is that they did this against the vast majority of teams not using any DP's.

Now multiple teams are using multiple lower priced DP's.

I think it is interesting enough now to consider whether using the less attractive cheaper DP's is better than using the big name higher priced dp's.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the next 5-7 years.
